I am pretty sure there are a few linux users out there looking to play osu, but they cant.
Any thoughts about releasing the game for Linux?
Marcin
You just like, missed sticked right? t/14614 :/

Other than that, no I haven't heard of any linux port.

iirc peppy said one day that he will eventually release a Linux-compatible version of osu!, but there are some milestones to pass, like DirectX removal and .NET emancipation.

I use Arch Linux, wine 1.7.1 with dotnet20, d3dx9 and corefonts installed, and until yesterday, osu! runned perfectly. Yesterday update ruined all. Also, i saw on download page, that osu! now needs dotnet35 to run. Using some magic i managed to make it work, but it was not very easy. Have i missed something? I think, not only me needs linux port...

What did you do exactly? I tried to set it up on arch yesterday as well, but it just crashed after selecting a map.

Well, i can't remember exactly... At first i did WINEARCH=win32 winetricks dotnet35 on a clear wineprefix, it installed dotnet20, but crashed during installing dotnet30. It copied all necessary files, but after this found some problem and deleted all copied files. I tried this command some more times, tried to cancel installation after it copied files, but before deleting. Then i did winetricks d3dx9 corefonts, and then tried WINEARCH=win32 winetricks dotnet35 one more time. It suddenly said, that i already have dotnet30, and then succesfully installed dotnet20 SP1, but crashed on dotnet30 SP1. I tried to run osu then, and it somehow runned without any crashes, or bugs, or whatever. I really have no idea how it worked.
It's really magic

1) Osu works with .NET 2.0. Only the installer requires 3.5, but if you use the osume.exe, then no need to install it.
2) The snow made osu fail in linux, since yesterday.
3) The performance of osu! on linux really sucks. You must have a very powerful GPU to play. That's because for over a year, OpenGL does not work from wine (in Linux and MacOS), only DirectX.

Yeah, i've noticed that. But you don't really need a VERY powerful GPU. I have Nvidia GT320M on my laptop, and Osu has stable 60 fps. I think, for wine it's acceptable. Also, performance becomes much better if you use wine-d3dstream instead of wine.

Ah. Then i probably will not get linux for at least a while

A real portage of osu! on linux would be really appreciable, with fully support of OpenGL for best performances.

may be ... but it is very difficult to play insane.
For my desktop (GT430), there are lag of 0.5ms, plus the amount of textures, often more lagging.
