No seriously stop putting random arbitrary objects in storyboards. Nothing more needs to be said than this.

At least that's trying to actually do something neat.

Which it does, although some may be distracted.

Yup.

@strager

Also, Approved exists for a reason. Popular demand for a scoreboard for a map that would normally be considered unrankable.

Luke's got a point there. Hence why Ivena Polka was originally approved in the first place.

I'm just saying that a map that physically harms a player shouldn't happen more than once.

motion sickness shut the fuck up

For the record, if your object(s) is/are stationary and lasts most (if not all) of the map, seriously consider just editing it into the background. :/

Also, please don't put random objects from franchises you like into the SB just because you can. Ex. a certain Metroid map (sorry, but you're guilty of it)
Ivalset
But, you know, he has a level 57 cleric on GMS Scania.
Zerostarry
omg I didnt know that
Wizard Of Orz
my acc with 51 cleric and 51 hunter got banned for no reason

but i didn't really care even if it was 2 years of my work

I don't download a lot of maps lately, so I'm curious if this is something that happens often, or only once or twice?

thats one of the best storyboard that has been made recently. (ofcourse the queen map was aswell)
I believe that counts under the "no eye candy" rule of rankability, aka the background should not distract significantly from the map. Thats fine in approval but not for actually ranked maps.

Obviously you didn't grasp what I was insinuating.

A) Nobody should make another storyboard like that because the eyecandy distracts/in my case caused physical harm.

B) That storyboard format should really only be done once, because it's simply going to a copycat that doesn't really stand out if you just try to copy StrangeProgram's level of fdznjhsgdju-storyboard. an originality is fine too
Gabi
i was simply saying that the storyboard was one of the best that had been made recently and fits the map perfect. you have your oppinion, and i have mine.

The storyboard is half the map. i belive when happy made the storyboard he had it in mind that it was going for approved and that he knew that the storyboard was distracting. the only thing that would be a tiny bit annoying are the strobes, but i think they fit very good here.

copy the storyboard? this storyboard was created perfectly to fit the map. if it can be made good for something similar, let it be made. just like Xepher.

He doesn't
I thought it was just me. Nice to know.

P.S. Gabi, Mogs is just saying that SBs should never physically harm someone.
Gabi
i know what he means, i just decided to ignore it since the storyboard doesn't harm me. put on some sunglasses if you want to tone down the strobes.
Cuddlebun
ah I see the perfect strategy

when it is obvious you are wrong, state that you understood what the other person meant all along and you were just blowing hot air for the sake of ???
Gabi
what exactly is wrong? this is oppinions.

this topic is about storyboards if you haven't understood that yet. if you don't have anything to rant/discuss about concerning storyboards i would advice you to go do something better then sitting in here trying to flame bait me.
Cuddlebun
not flame baiting you, just wondering why you get into these arguments and then kinda make them pointless by going 'lolnvm'

I personally didn't see any problem with SP, it didn't make me sick, but a lot of things about that map are "awesome, now never do it again".

I agree
Yuukari-Banteki
i got vaguely motion-sick watching it. not particularly happy about it being approved just because modding it was awful (motion sickness x3 - one for each diff X_X ) i certainly never plan on playing it and if anyone tries to make me mod a map like that again, i am quitting as soon as i start feeling sick. just my thoughts on the subject :P

this map is cluttered and badly made :/ its not that the rhythms are bad so much as the visual gives me a splitting headache and i cant mod this any longer @_@;
True.

As for storyboards (especially SB's like StrangeProgram or Disturbia, where they're intended to confuse the player), I choose to look at them like the "Battle mode" mods from ITG; you can't do anything about them, and they are meant to challenge you.

... On a side note, I absolutely love the StrangeProgram SB. But then I'm something of a rhythem game masochist.
Also, I kinda want a small note on the osu! download page saying that some user-made maps may induce seizures in persons susceptible. Ya'know, just in case.

I wasn't talking about the strobes; do you NOT get what motion sickness is?

Also, to fit your opinion, see what Cheese said. To fit my opinion, look at what SFG said. For what I want, see the end of Daru's post.

You're still not getting it. I'm saying more than one storyboard like SP (one that can physically interfere with players) is overkill. =| One is enough as is. I'm not dissing the amount of time that went into it or saying it's bad, I was saying it physically made me sick, but not due to its quality. Last time I checked, a game shouldn't do that to someone.
Storyboards are part of the map. It is not "overkill" or a "distraction". It is part of gameplay.

This leads to:

Fast-paced FPS's and similar games may cause motion sickness. If you are affected by them, don't play them. Those games aren't wrong because you get sick. (Not trying to say you getting sick is your fault, of course.)

And applied here:

Novelty storyboards like that in StrangeProgram may cause motion sickness. If you are affected by them, don't play them. Those SB's aren't wrong because you get sick.

I have never had any issue with SP. I like the storyboard, but never would have thought of it as a distraction at all. Disturbia, slightly, but that can be "learned against." This is kind of an eye-opener...
Derekku
StrangeProgram made me dizzy the first time I played it, but I still had a ton of fun and loved it. :3
