i fucking hate environmentally friendly packaging. i go to most major fast food restraunts and the cups are made of paper and they just fucking seep through after 1-2 hours. paper straws fucking disintegrate in seconds once it touches liquid. cardboard packaging in fast food just leaks the sauce all over. paper bags too easily rips and tears and isnt as easy to carry. i just want to return to plastic cups and bags, styrofoam packages, and shit not fucking leaking.

Kind of agree. It feels like a front for companies to say that they're "helping the planet" and stuff like that.

when in reality it doesnt matter if you use a plastic bag cause some factory in china is gonna make 1000x more pollution that you will in your entire life

Kind of steers off the main topic but yeah. We need to have big corporations and such take responsibility for their pollution and emissions since they make up most of it.

But hey at least they're biodegradable! Better to just use metal straws or forgo without one.

I'd prefer bringing my own cup and use my own steel straws for such stuff. Stainless steel is durable and does not release anything weird into the environment, and it's not brittle like glass or weak as paper or difficult to recycle like silicone.

Single use plastics are a problem, yeah, but the vast majority of paper needs trees to be cut so as a solution to replace plastic... Nope. The only advantage is that little to no microplastics are released and that paper degrades in months compared to plastic that takes centuries.

In the end, modern day "eco friendliness" is little more than greenwashing by companies.
A more doable and reasonable thing to do is to stop being so consumerist in literally everything and companies stop using so much programmed obsolescence. For example, basically every major company releases a slightly better signature phone yearly and in some worse cases, like Xiaomi does, twice a year.

Some guy sells plastic straws on pallets near me lol, i have like 200 of them left

Actually despise paper straws

It be curious to see metrics on how much emissions that has really reduced
Aireunaeus
well i can't really say they're "helping the planet" but in reality, they're just making the enviroment worse
WitherMite
alot of "eco friendly" stuff is just moving the emissions to a less visible part of the chain.

Holy shit the paper straws.

KFC started doing them last year and it's been a pain drinking anything out of them.
Somehow I think Maccas does a better job with the paper straw, doesn't instant disintergrate.

i live in the us so the only ones using paper straws are local restaurants and honestly it makes me not want to eat there. as for KFC and the golden arches they still use plastic straws but mcd's phased out their plastic cups and its only used for milkshakes and iced coffee. and now whenever i get soda is just seeps through like after an hour.

The cups are the same here, but they are not as big of an issue, I've experienced no leaks.
It could be that the maccas that you go has awful quality material.

I can confirm that. The cups start getting soggy after like 30 minutes if you don't drink it.

It could be that I finish my drink before 30 minutes pass.

Too bad some of these climate change protests are bringing climate change's reputation down

me watching my chipotle paper straw melt to pulp while watching obama walk out his private jet that just emptied 40,000 tons of co2 into the atmosphere to discuss "pizzas" with other rich people be like

There's a theory going around that these fad protests that bring climate change down are actually done by companies like big oil to discredit climate change so that they could continue making profits while destroying the earth

Most of the pollution on Earth is actually caused by megacorporations. Sure, you and I contribute some of it, but it's like comparing a cigarette to a forest fire. Sadly we can't really do anything but boycott the biggest polluters, and even then, a few people boycotting doesn't hurt their bottom line that much.

If you still want to reduce your waste output, go to any department store and look for metal straws. I got a pack of 4 for 10$. You can wash and reuse them, and as long as you dry and clean them properly they won't rust and leave your drinks tasting weird.
