Let's say for example, you're #1 on a beatmap, and then someone else beats your score. That'd be something you'd like to know about, right?

I suggest being PM'd or something whenever that happens.

As was said, it's already stated in your profile.

Though, it would be nice to receive a message, after the "Friends: blah blah blah are online" one when you log in, saying "Your #1 score on Map [difficulty] was beaten!" or something alone those lines.

I've more than once overwritten a usurpation notice by playing maps and getting updates to my profile, only to find later on that the #1 was beaten.
