You sort of get it, but from what I understand, it's not really about sameness, it's just about eliminating the aspect of chance. They treat it as a game of pure skill, and thus eliminate anything that adds randomness to the game. The term "tourneyfag" references the idea of "tournament rules," where anything that might give a weaker player an unexpected advantage is banned.awp wrote:

I think that playing like that kind of misses the point, and makes the game less fun to play, but I can see why competitive people would want to play like that if they're trying to seriously determine who the best players are. Fortunately for me, I'm a terrible player, so items only make the game more fun for me.
Speaking of switching items off, I hope the next Mario Kart has an item switch. The game would be boring without items, true, but I know my friends and I would all agree on turning off the stupid Blue Shells.
