I want to get better at sight reading and a big problem of mine is low accuracy. I've been playing hard rock on old songs recently, and I'm wondering if there's another/better way to be improving accuracy for it?

In my unprofessional opinion, you are not yet at a stage where that would be feasible. You generally need good accuracy to even begin playing HR effectively. Focus on nomod, and play as many patterns as you can get your hands on, and pretty soon you'll be able to sightread them with relative ease. This is one of those things that falls under the umbrella of "play more".

No. Do not play hard rock, you are not yet ready from it. Go back to easier maps if you are getting low accuracy and play a lot of no mod.

I would not recommend playing HR.

to get better acc you must simply look at the approach circle and determine when you need to tap to get a 300.

Yes, play hard rock, I would recommend playing hard rock. If you enjoy playing hard rock I would absolutely recommend you stick with playing hard rock.

No, hard rock will not do that, the best way is to find a comfortable ar which is not too fast nor to slow. Play maps which you have good accuracy already and try to acc them better, its on you what way you find comfortable, You can listen to beat to tap accurately, you can focus on approach circle to find the time when you need to tap or you can do mix of both.

Some advice:

Read note individually: In my opinion everyone should learn this skill because not only it improve your consistency, it also improve your accuracy, I went from 94% average to almost 99% average. And to improve reading is by playing low star maps which will give passions which you need to read note individually.

Diversity: Play a lot of different type of maps, Two most important is of course stream and jump but you should also focus on tech maps and finger control maps. As the name suggest "finger control" means to have a good control on your finger which will improve your accuracy.

Tech maps: Tech maps itself have different variety. Some are heavily based on aim like fast slider or some are based on finger control like sputnik. Tech maps is most fun way to improve any skill you want to improve, of course if you are someone who like to challenge themselves.

Playing in your comfortzone: Play in your comfortzone and play easy map so you can focus on accuracy

HR increases four main aspects of the beatmap difficulty, CS, AR, OD, and HP. If you're not comfortable playing high CS and AR, then you should not be playing HR for improving accuracy.

Instead, you can just make a practice difficulty of a map that you can get a proper accuracy on with a higher OD to practice.

I'd suggest not to bother with that and just download and play through as many beatmaps as you can in your comfort zone. And forget about mods and focus fully on nomod for now, I see that others have mentioned playing different types of beatmaps, but at your level, I actually recommend not to bother with that and just play generic maps (preferably at least 2 mins or longer tho).
