It's just for cool points, the exact opposite (playing with only one thumb) is what most people advise
its optional and not really that necessary. although it can help you on hitting certain symmetrical spacebar patterns, but those are very uncommon and are found in some few high end 7k charts. you are better off putting time on other skillsets rather than learning another thumb.
