Welcome to VMC
hosted by the Vocaloid Appreciation Team (VAT)RESULTS ARE HERE!
Congrats to Andada for winning, and too for the very close follow up.
Thanks for participating as well, IWEJ, and here's your pity head pat!
The Vocaloid Mapping Competition is a casual mapping contest hosted by some of the most passionate vocaloid fans in the community for everyone to participate and expose themselves to such an important part of osu! history and culture. This is a contest both for vocaloid fanatics, and also first time listeners.
When we say vocaloid, we use the term as a common catch-all for any type of vocal synthesizer, such as UTAU. These songs can sound incredibly realistic, even lifelike, but what differentiates them is that a real person was not the actual vocalist for these songs. In this sense, a vocaloid is no different than any other instrument (guitar, piano, etc). This allows the producer to take the same base (the vocaloid) and create wildly different sounds, melodies, and songs, and gives the artist much more room for self-expression and creative liberty.
The VAT intends to host these contests approximately 4 times per year, with each contest having some kind of theme, whether that be a specific vocaloid, an artist, genre of music, etc. For this first contest, it wouldn't make sense to start with anything other than the icon of vocaloid herself:
HATSUNE MIKU

We tried to pick songs that would appeal to a diverse audience, yet were also iconic vocaloid songs that had (for some reason) not been mapped yet. You can pick any one or more of these songs to map and submit as many entries as you want. Only the highest scoring entry will count!

Judging
Judges will evaluate based on:1. Relevance (30pts)
How well does the map fit the song? Do the elements of the map match the elements of the song, and is the map fundamentally inseparable from the song it is paired with?
2. Expertise (25pts)
This refers to how well the map executes the elements it presents. This encompasses the technical skills of the mapper, and also the consistency, structure, and style of the map. Judges will score this entry considering the overarching picture of the map, and will avoid nitpicking small details.
3. Creativity (25pts)
How unique and outstanding is the map and the elements within it compared to the current mapping meta? How well does it stand out from the crowd? Did you make the judges say "wow!", "that's cool!", or "that's super interesting!"? Generic mapping that just copies the current mapping meta or concepts from other "famous" maps is discouraged.
4. Impression (20pts)
This contest is judged by some of the most prominent vocaloid mappers in the community, and you better bet that all of them have a personal bias with regard to how vocaloid songs are mapped. All entries will start at a base level of 10 points in this category, and the judges have the ability to add up to 10 points (for a max of 20) or take away as many as 10 points. This allows judges to not only boost entries they really like, but also take away points from entries they really didn't. Judges will give comments regarding why they took or gave points.
5. Hitsounding (up to 5 bonus points)
This category is completely optional and entirely extra credit. Rankable hitsounds can get up to 2 points, but hitsounds that fundamentally add to the experience and compliment the map in a unique way can get the full 5 points.
Prizes
1st place will receive... a fast track to ranking the map, 4 months of supporter, and a Discord role within the VAT server. We will also attempt to receive a profile badge, but no promises!2nd place will receive... 1 month of supporter
