What are the criteria for classifying a normal Osu map?

it is mandatory to do a map with 1 or 2 stars for ranking? and what are some mandatory points for the rankinget?

also on this wiki page are the ranking criteria for the other difficulties. Star rating doesn't really play a part in ranking criteria.
