Your Peripheral Decisions

How was it like when you first bought your tablet? Maybe you were nervous or didn’t really want to invest into a game you weren’t sure you would put the effort into. If you play mouse did you upgrade to a better one or simply stuck with whatever you decided to start off with? If you did upgrade either peripheral how did it go? I’m curious.

Epic question!

I started playing in early 2018 with an office mouse for the first few months, which by then i was soooo eager to try a tablet!! I borrowed my friend's wacom intuos for about a year and then finally got a tablet of my own, an XP-pen! Being 20$ at the time with their slick description "made for osu", it seemed like a no brainer :D

I was playing about 18hours a day on average through my first year and by 2019 i had invested in a keyboard and 240hz. It was expensive but worth it :)
(These "upgrades" did not improve my gameplay lolol it still always took time and practice)

I had been playing a lot for a few months and decided to get a tablet. I just bought the cheapest I found, still using it today after 6 years.
I also had a membrane keyboard at first, a million or so clicks in the weight of my finger was enough to press the keys so I got a mechanical (black switch).

Fun fact: I often see a lot of people saying a tablet won't make you better instantly. After just a week with tablet I was already better than with mouse :) (it was a bad mouse but still)

Yeah, it would take time to adjust to new peripherals but it’s good to hear that you’re willing to take risk and upgrade.

It’s different for everyone. I personally couldn’t get into tablet but that is crazy seeing your improvement from switching to tablet.

i started osu in 2021 already having a mech keyboard and a 144hz monitor

I played for maybe a week or two before I bought my first tablet (Huion GS64 i think) which broke after like 2-3 months :(

one of my friends who also started playing around the same time as me got an xp pen g640 and he said he liked it, so i bought it after doing research and seeing it was actually a decent tablet unlike the hs64

honestly not sure how long i had my g640 for, but i didnt really like it. i found myself constantly accidentally hitting the side button which would mess up my cursor + the pen was too skinny for me + i didnt really like how small the tablet was, but i just decided to deal with it.

after 6+ months i got fed up of dealing with the star g640 and finally bit the bullet and bought the bigger version of the osu!pro tablet© (CTH 480/680) for around $60 after shipping and im so happy i did :)

2 days into playing the game with some random office mouse, I decided to try using my mum's wacom ctl 4100 she used because of her RSI from using a mouse. Since then she's moved on to a fancy trackball mouse, so I guess the drawing tablet is just mine now. This'll be real ironic when I have RSI from playing too much osu in 4 years.

Since then, I've gotten a 144hz monitor and a mechanical keyboard after just using a laptop for a while, not specifically for osu, but because I wanted proper peripherals to prepare for an eventual pc build I mean for online class yeah definitely for online class (the extra monitor was super useful though, I don't think I can go back single monitor setup).

You guys... I just use a mouse and keyboard, and I play just fine (call me weird, I know).

had a cheapo membrane kb, bought a mech one not sure why.

i didn't like how hard wiggle patterns were using palm grip on mouse, got a tablet. tablet felt small, bought a bigger one. tablet felt small, bought a bigger one again.

old crt monitors (~100 to 160hz) started to break, bought a lcd with a loot of hz so it wouldn't look choppy or worse.

I bought a tablet, keypad, and got a better monitor for osu! game.
