I can pass 3.5* charts that have little to no hold notes but another 3.5* map with hold notes I choke and fail the song. When they incorporate rapid hold notes mixed in with regular notes is when it becomes so hard for me to keep track, anyone else agree or have an opinion on this?

That's because you suck at LNs.
Just play more, you'll get used to it don't worry :v
LN heavy maps with the same star rating tend to be harder as there are less notes placed in the lane, and as such causes the density to be lower (-> lower SR)
My only tip is to play more of those LN heavy maps, you'll be able to easily play LNs mixed with normal notes (and release them at the right time)
