Allow sets to be ranked with a majority of difficulties by mappers who cannot upload

Some mappers are unable to use the map upload system. Here are some examples of situations where this happens, in order of estimated prominence.
- Mappers whos accounts are suspended
- Mappers who have been sent to war
- Mappers with a prolonged lack of internet or computer
- Mappers who have died/entered a coma/etc

Currently, mapsets with difficulties by such people are allowed to be ranked, but only when another takes it upon themself to make additional difficulties. This is due to a rule requiring that the person who uploads the mapset have equal or most difficulties.

The ranking criteria's rationale for this rule is, "to provide credit where credit is due." In typical cases, which the rule is based around, it is easy to provide credit where credit is due by swapping the mapset host to the user with the most difficulties. However, in cases where a user is unable to use the map upload system, this is not possible.

This post suggests that an exception be made for such cases in order to allow mapsets, which otherwise follow every aspect of the ranking criteria, to be ranked without the need for another user to create additional difficulties. This would mean that, for example, a full spread would be able to be ranked where each difficulty is a "guest difficulty" by a mapper who is unable to upload the spread themself. It would also allow maps over 5 minutes to be ranked as a sole guest difficulty if the creator cannot upload maps.

This could be implemented by modifying the existing rule as follows:
A beatmap host must have beatmapped equal or more difficulties than any guest difficulty creator. [. . .] This rule does not apply to difficulties by users who will be unable to upload beatmaps for a prolonged period.

First reason is invalid. There are not be exceptions allowing to bypass restrictions.
turns out it's allowed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Abraker,

So far, it has been allowed for difficulties by restricted users to be uploaded by others, as well as for these mapsets to be ranked if they are in accordance with the ranking criteria. This may seem like bypassing to some, but it is a long-standing precedent which this post takes for granted.

can a dead person give permission for their work to be added to someone elses profile?
can somebody who has been sent to war give permission?
someone without access to a computer?

no.

you wont know if they want their work to be sent to the ranked section
all of this will also create conflicts when multiple people want to use someone elses difficulty

also how will you even verify all of this? people will eventually exploit this rule to bypass the main rule

seems like a lot of effort and issues for such a niche problem

I was made aware that's allowed. Didn't know.

The rule about only uploading others difficulties with their permission would still exist. This wouldn't effect that.

Permission can be given in advance to all of these events, and often during them with the exception of death. E.g., person is drafted but still has contact with their online friends for a time, and explains how they're okay with their work being used. As for restrictions, obviously people often still stay in contact with other mappers after being restricted.

Glad we could clarify.

To cover these specific cases:

- Restricted mappers should get unrestricted if they want to push sets for ranked in which they are the host/hold majority share. Getting unrestricted is not hard anymore and requires a minimum of effort.
- We can't really make provisions for any kind of prolonged unavailability user-side due to the lack of explicit consent. Currently, Loved exists as a way for these sets to be handled at a later date without requiring this.

I don't think there's a lot more we can realistically do here over what currently exists, nor should we.

Like I wrote directly above, permission can be given in advance to (and often during) such situations.

How difficult it is to get unrestricted varies.

The reasoning for this statement is unclear, so we may have to agree to disagree on this point.

going to close this thread as per eph's reply, as it covers the reasons why this wouldn't be necessary
