Why is the old site becoming less and less usable?

I hate this "modern" layout of the Osu website. I miss when you could do everything on it, including chatting on forums, or even registering an account (you now need the game for it). Now the Login for the old website has also been disabled, even if you input the correct credentials, it redirects you to the new website and the old one is still not logged in.

EDIT 1: Seems like I am somehow logged in on the old website. But still, most of the websites are permanently on the new layout with no way to go back.

peppy said several times that he would ditch the old site someday but (luckily?) nothing happened yet

it's because the new is more stylish and better for new people than the old one, I guess. I like the old one a bit more, especially when using the forums. either way, it's sad that we don't have the option of using the old website instead of the new one.

I have no idea, but when I tried logging into the old site, it redirected me to the normal site and logged me out of the old one. Relogged in, redirected me, went back, clicked the osu logo, and I got a free 523 error. Gonna wait for someone to make a "theme" for the osu website that just recreates it into the old format.

So Peppy is trying to be user-hostile? Some people absolutely hate this new layout and would prefer a cool, colorful layout over this shitty minimalism.
Winnyace
I don't think that's an user-hostile move. it's user-hostile for people who want to exclusively use the old website and I don't think most want to, personally. I think most people would have this dark themed, modernly designed one than the old one.

That seriously sucks, Lazer seems too minimalistic for me

I feel like you just hate minimalistic design

I feel like newer players like this site better than the old one
Winnyace
indeed. I'd say that this design is minimalistic, however, it doesn't sacrifice on usability, at least outside of the forums.

Dont think hes trying to be user-hostile, but I can see why you think that. It'd be nice if both sites worked normally (since the only way to get an API key is on the old site). I can also see why you hate the new site. Its pretty minimal and shifts a lot of things around compared to the old site. At least there's still some functionality on the old site though.

Maybe make a suggestion about this at the next osu!dev meeting?

Since when do they listen to suggestions?

They "listen" to suggestions if you ask it in the osu!dev discord when they have a meeting. Either that or open an issue on github asking about it.

No, it's because they are intentionally crippling the site to make more people use this minimalistic layout.

Maintaining two sites is doubling the workload, and sometimes even more than that depending on the specifics of the codebase. I doubt it's a matter of crippling the old site so much as simply not maintaining it.

You don't need Osu!Direct to get new beatmaps - you can just download them from the site.

tbf the old site has been there for around a decade before it got switched. Site/programs like that are bound to have spaghetti code somewhere to the point that I'd prefer making a new one from scratch rather than clinging on the old one so much if I were the programmer.

Also afaik they're making the UI/UX closer to the old one as well, most notably the beatmap card. Truly wish peppy could take more care at forum tho, mainly more missing BBCode features like colors, notice, spoilers or quote function (not the one you got from the quoting button in the post) though. But overall it's more than enough for me.

Yes, but osu!direct makes it MUCH MUCH easier. I don't know why make users do it the hard way when there is an easy way. To squeeze money?

They have to squeeze money from us because osu is a free game and making the server online is not free and the developer, helper, support team etc also need money to live.
