Personally, I like chairs with no backrests. it just gives me an incentive to keep my back straight

I like chair with backrest + handrest
I don't really like using backrest. But I use it some times.
I like backrests, possibly because you have a support to keep your back mostly straight while not forcing yourself. you can lean your back against it and keep your posture in check. I feel like that professional, straight back at all times posture is extremely hard to achieve and it requires a lot of mental effort at first while a simple lean against the backrest offers you a great posture without the mental effort.

and we use stools for standing on to reach high places
like when changing a lightbulb
or getting a cereal box that is always somehow on the highest shelf

backrest because my posture is so bad that if I were to plot and place it on a coordinate plane it will not pass the vertical line test which my back is not a function
The thing is that even if a chair have a backrest, I don’t lean on it so it doesn’t really matter for me
