So I don't think I see many days where someone hasn't posted a beatmap request in either Beatmap Projects or General Discussion (and sometimes Feature Requests)

I think to solve this, it may be a good idea to have something similar to how Tech Support is run

When making a thread in Beatmap Projects (and possibly General Discussion), the topic body can have something pretty much saying "Don't post beatmap requests here."

I know there's a bunch of stickied threads and stuff, but people seem to be ignoring it a lot, so this may help alleviate that issue.

sometimes i wonder if theyd ever make an Beatmap Request Thread ;< i feel bad about those but anyways this request should do a lot to caution players not to post beatmap request!
deadbeat
well, there's a automatic draft message/subject title like that for tech support threads that people seem to just ignore, so not sure how helpful this would be :<

no

In case you need an explanation of why it should not be revived, I posted this in another forum

Since some people have been asking where do you request beatmaps, I wanted to add an a few more details about the situation.

Sadly, there is no place to request a Beatmap, here's a link to the old thread:
Beatmap Song Requests
If you read through the old thread, you'll quickly realize that very few of these request were ever fulfilled, so even if you request a beatmap, it will probably be in vain.
As for this idea, I think the idea is good, but I wonder if anyone will pay attention.

Bumping this thread since the beatmap project forum hasn't been improving over time (not that I expected it too) and this is the only thing I can think of to mitigate the issue.

So what is wrong with just removing the threads? Seems like much less of a chore than this.

Why not have some message shown for people to click to acknowledge they what there is that they can or can not do, like posting beatmap requests, for the first few forum posts they make, let's say the first 5 times they try to post. Something of this sort.
It's mainly those users who rarely use the forums, and it seems those who usually do try request do not even have 10 posts, or their request was their first ever post.

well that would fix the issue i had with this suggestion
TicClick
there are two options that could possibly save the situation
it's either new thread button removal or a giant huge epileptic unfriendly warning all over the screen
and I still think the latter will not work
silmarilen
it would actually be a nice idea to put some requirement on being allowed to make a thread in the beatmap project subforum
something like a submitted map or a minimum amount of posts
Bara-
Minimum of 10-20 posts then?
Most people requesting have less than 5
Or, as Sil said, minimum ofsubmitted maps. Still, I would go for 1 ranked OR 3 Submitted (so it won't be: 'I submitted a map, it's terrible, so I request ...-...')
TicClick
introducing a post count threshold will not help, but encourage people to post dumb things and/or spam; we've already faced that when so,eone wanted to have an anime avatar with filters applied and stuff, but the thread they were going to request this in had a 50 posts requirement (yes, you guessed it right, they made 50 posts within less than half an hour)

Something's telling me a flashing neon sign wouldn't be enough to communicate to these guys that they can't request beatmaps anywhere, but I suppose the automatic draft subject thing is worth a try. That or rename the Beatmap Projects forum to something less likely to mislead newbies into thinking it's for beatmap requests. If you think about it, they probably see the forum name and go right in to create the thread without reading the stickies.
neonat
Can this still be a thing, at least 5 or less posts. At least they will stay around longer and hopefully they actually see the announcements

Or at least restrict posting in the Beatmap Project subforum, just that place where it always seems to converge.
abraker
Limit + infringement? Although xxdeathx's neon sign comment is kinda true. :/

Perhaps make a thread called "Request beatmaps here" and make it serve as a dump. Cruel, but nobody else has any good ideas either.
blissfulyoshi
I was rethinking neonat's 5 post idea, and I think if you accompany that with a note about beatmap request it might work because as TicClick used as an example, the Marry an Anime Character thread, forces you to read that you need 50 posts to do X, so making a short warning accompanying the 5 post like "No beatmap request" with a clickable link to the explanation thread would be read in the case they tried to post with fewer than 5 post.
xxdeathx
Come on admins where are you, this needs to be done

Then again if these posts stopped the GMT would be out of work

whoa I sure got to this early

I'd like to bump this with an idea:

Minimum of post count is rather ineffective because people do not only post there to request beatmap additions but to give some feedback on other threads. Instead, let's try this:

You can only create a OWN thread if you own a ranked beatmap. This ensures that you gained some experience in the mapping theory and you're not using the forum to posts beatmap requests or to create unstructured, pointless or dead threads. People can still post in threads of other users.

I want to explain the text above: People do not only posts tons of beatmap requests but also creates threads for beatmap projects but lacking on knownledge, basic structure or just do not provide anything productive except "let's map songs to <insertartisthere> xd" which is nonsense. Having a ranked beatmap solves this problem in the most cases and will cause less of these threads. That obviously only affects the Beatmap Project Forum.

This should help and clear at least some percentage of new threads.

I actually had this long time ago as idea but that is basically the Abandoned Wasteland.
