My villagers are lame and keep requesting useless crap.

I ordered New Leaf last week, it'd better arrive soon.

Just got New Leaf, damn, can't get off my 3DS. too many things to do (excluding planing it...)

Go to the island of Mortimer(ENG)/Törtel(DEU), if you haven't unlocked it yet (there should be a boat in the small port in your village) you probably need to pay the loan you have for your house (which should cost around 32k~ish bells/sternis) to Tom Nook and the next time you're restarting AC:NL, Isabelle(ENG)/Melinda(DEU) will tell you that the former major (Mortimer(E)/Törtel(D)) of the village came to visit. You can locate him at that port and he'll tell you that a boat will stop at your port the day after.
If you can't wait, you can always travel through time. But consider that 420weed420 will grow the further you travel, flowers & plants starting to wither and risking your people leave your village. That's the side effect, I would recommend, if you time travel, water your flowers & plants, do everything you're doing for the day before travelling.

Getting to the actual point. If you're on the island, around 7pm til 10pm. There should be rare insects and fishes appearing there. Rare insects should stay until midnight so you'll be having plenty of time catching them.
Depending on what you caught, you'll ending up always earning not less than 2000 bells/sternis each catch. Make sure you'll deposit it and do not sell it to that little girl in the same house you've arrived.
If you've filled up your whole depositing basket with rare insects (usualy, rare insects are always clinging on the palms, do not even waste your time collecting these on the trees located at the middle of the island) and fishes, you'll end up earning 200-400k for a full basket depening on what type you got the most.
Don't forget to sell all items at Re-Tail/Fundgrube (the pink house led by a pink and a blue alpaca).
^ always sell all your stuff there.

Also, why I'm saying not less is because you can earn up to 14.000 bells/sternis per catch, but only with fishes and only special ones.
Try to take a good look at your screen when trying to fish and only choose targets that have back-fins attached to their shadows. They always guarantee a rare catch.

Oh, and I would like to recommend you doing the lessons (you can participate by registering at the counter inside that house you arrived) seriously the first times and then a second time to collect all rare fruits that are spawning to various locations on the randomized islands.
You can stack fruits by taking fruits of the same kind and drag them together to make a basket, they can store up to 9 in total of the same kind.
Soaprman
If you want to make the most of island runs, remove all the trees/bushes/flowers from the grassy prat in the middle and chop down the palm trees at the southern end that are difficult to approach. The only things spawning besides palm tree beetles should be wharf roaches and hermit crabs. Doing beetle runs gets kind of monotonous after a while, though... I stopped doing it after I had enough bells to afford a few house expansions and bridges. Since I'm focusing on the layout of my town now, I get more than enough bells from selling fruit, hitting the daily money rock, and catching the occasional bug/fish.

Time travel is cool for letting me see sunlight in-game when I get home from work on weeknights. My village is a few days ahead of real time from the times I've jumped forward a bit to change the time of day. Jumping forward is totally safe (i.e. no side effects) by the way - it's functionally identical to leaving the game turned off for the amount of time you skipped.

Here's a pro tip: if you want more than one K.K. album on Saturday nights, create more player characters in your village. Each one can get an album from him.

Also pro tip: You can use the letters you're carrying as additional inventory slots. I keep tools up there so I can summon whichever one I need and get them out of the switching rotation when I'm done with them.

And here's some screenshots. Why ain't more people postin' screenshots of they junk?

This randomly happened with my money rock one day. Pretty neat!

Check this pimp-ass setup. Totally willingly bought the fake painting when I saw it because of the decoration potential.

What do you think the lemons are for?

Too much work to get screenshots off of the SD card and upload them :v

Finally hit a perfect town rating today after planting over 100 trees and building a bunch of PWPs.

You can upload them via the 3DS web browser with an image hosting service. Some don't work on it, but tinypic is fine.

That'd be even slower! :P I'd prefer to just batch move them from my SD card to my PC, stick them in Dropbox for backup, and then puush ones that I'd like to share.

Fun fact: you can have too many trees in your town. I had perfect town status for a while but despite only adding stuff, I eventually lost it. Started getting remarks about the town being barren and a lack of public works projects. So, I decided to try subtracting my way to perfect town status. Well, after cutting down and de-stumping about 15 of my 230ish trees, I got instapromoted to perfect town again.

Bonus: the trees I planted that pushed me out of perfect town range were perfect cherry trees.

Related to bonus: Anyone here not have cherries as their native fruit and mind letting me come in to make loads of money? I can usually be around on weeknights (timezone: GMT-5) You're welcome to sell your perfect fruits in my town too, of course.

Yup. Once you get over 200 or 210ish it starts subtracting from your rating. I nearly did the same thing even after knowing about the limit!

Little punk thought it could hide from me in the flowers.

Slowly but surely, I get closer to my goal...

Added a list of 3DS FCs to the OP (from what I saw posted in here, and some copied over from the 3DS FC thread).
Soaprman
Should we plan certain times to have gates open? Most of you aren't in the 3DS Skype group we have going for all-hours pestering fun (if you want in, let me or someone else already in it know) so planning meetings might be a tad difficult. I'd like to visit your towns and definitely not stomp all over your shit.

Timezone information would be handy to have, too. Like, Eph says "night" in his post but as someone more than a few blocks away from Australia, I don't really know what that means! (I'm UTC - 5 by the way. Don't include DST in your calculations... vanilla timezones only). There's a spreadsheet in the 3DS thread OP where we can write that stuff down.
awp
I like to bug friends occasionally to sell my perf cherries since HOLLA HOLLA GET BELLS. Haven't been playing the game a whole lot lately though
Soaprman
I unloaded over 100 baskets of perfect cherries in someone's town once and got over 3 million bells. It was kind of silly! I guess Reese thought it was worth the money.

Seems cherries are a pretty popular native fruit. Most people I know seem to have cherries...
Jarby
Still not sure if I've managed to get my odd connection issues sorted since I've managed to visit dream towns and get DLC just fine. All the router configuration information I've found has been exclusive to American brands. Tell me if you add me so I can see if I can visit your town after messing about with it some more: 4897-6167-0433. At least I can still have adventures on my own, particularly with nasty villagers like Bree.

Criticizing my fashion sense...

...and sticking pins in my chair.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, I ended up visiting Derekku's dream town. It's actually really fun!

Lots of pictures here

The two tile road patterns here are quite nice. I personally stuck to a simpler design to make it easier on myself, but I'm sort of regretting it now.

Three alt characters here with work in progress houses too. You keep up that turnip business, Kayla.

He's got Jacques too, my first (and only) smug villager! Now to the main feature: Derekku's house.

The sleek series looks pretty rad in purple, I must admit. K.K. Chorale is playing in this room; I'm definitely going to get the song next Saturday.

My favourite room! The ore refurbished furniture is just dandy.

Loads of rare stuff here, but...

Is that a pickle? There was another room, but I forgot to screenshot it. Oops.

Just taking your blue roses, dear.

You've got too many flowers anyway.

Aaaand that's all.

Diagonal bridges are absolute hell for making roads look decent; the traffic light and extra few tiles help a lot imo.

i.e. furniture storage :P. I did a lot of refurbishing (200 items needed for the gold refurbishing badge) and didn't have the heart to sell the sets. Instead, I decided to throw them into my slaves' houses along with non-reorderable furniture sets (Gracie/event/holiday/etc).

Jarby wrote:

Definitely one of my favorite villagers!

Jarby wrote:

Sadly the sleek series can only be redone in red, purple, and a cow-like print, but purple is definitely pretty nice!

i.e. junk (but will soon be replaced by newly-refurbised minimalist/astro sets)

It's actually a cucumber! It's one of two items from Obon, a JP-only holiday that was a couple of weeks ago. They're not reorderable from the catalog, but I can let you (or anyone else) catalog them for the sake of completion if you'd like!

Jarby wrote:

Yeah they're spreading like wildfire and I haven't gotten around to placing them in pretty patterns. I'd really just like to keep hybrids, anyway.

I'll probably set up a dream address for my town in a couple of weeks. It's still a bit too boring to share.

Derek, how you gonna have all this fancy shit in your houses and still have a default pattern on your flag. Come on now.

I've recently got a ACNL digital copy for free thanks to a friend of mine :) I am really enjoying it, even though I haven't unlocked all the shops yet and I still have to do a lot of things! My friend code anyways is 3394-3578-5864, feel free to add me if you want :D

It's a general 3DS group, yeah, but there's no problem discussing Animal Crossing in there. It's usually Pokémon talk...
Jarby
I'll form a separate Animal Crossing one if there's any interest.

Alright, we decided to form a group to get a room that doesn't get flooded by pocket monster chat as soon as we turn our backs. People in it right now:

* me ("the soaper man")
* Derekku
* Ephermeral
* bomber34

Pester anyone in the group to be added. When you're in, you can add other people by dragging them from your contact list into the group chat.

Some recent achievements/progress:
  1. Finally hit 100M bells (thanks to three months' worth of turnips)
  2. Working on completely paying off my slaves' houses for furniture storage (unorderable sets like Gracie/event/holiday)
  3. Changed my road pattern for Autumn (from dark brown to a grayish silver)
  4. Got a villager to move out that had placed his house in the WORST possible spot (on top of some crossroad paths)
  5. Adopted a cute little mouse from a friend (as I was missing his personality type in my town)
  6. Built a few more PWPs
  7. Obtained nearly 70% total catalog completion!
I'll update my dream town before the night's over as well!

EDIT: Updated and posted known dream addresses in the OP.
Jarby
PSA: The stained glass furniture has six (!) separate styles for both the inner and outer edges of it. You can customize the inner circle with your own design to make a really nice mural without the typical square edges you have to deal with.

I promised myself I wouldn't go filling my town and house with other people's designs, so I'm just going to leave it at that. Hopefully I'll be artistically capable of making my own road pattern eventually. Also:

I guess you can't fault her for trying.

Man, I can't be bugged to play this anymore. It always goes something like this:
- Decide to play AC
- Open the game, get bugged that I haven't been playing in a while and that everyone is missing me
- Have to talk to every single villager now
- After doing that, I realize I have to gather money to progress (expand house, build ornaments, buy furniture)
- Realize that means grinding the island

And all of that isn't any fun to do.

It's unfortunate that it's almost required to play every day for the best experience. These games are meant to be casual and good for stress relief, but can end up causing stress and make tasks feel like work instead of fun. ):

In other news, I have:
  1. Paid off my slaves' houses
  2. Adopted a 10th villager
  3. Filled up my town with PWPs (still have room for one more, but I can't get it for a few months due to being event-exclusive)
  4. Cleaned up some trees/flowers (still have a lot of work to do with flowers, though)
To-Do list:
  1. Finally get a non-default flag design
  2. Put some designs in Able Sisters' so that my villagers will stop wearing road patterns >.>
  3. Give my slaves some non-default clothes and hairstyles
  4. Rearrange flowers for maximum aesthetics and hybrid probabilities
