Well if you click the change username button, it will notify you whether the username is already taken or not. So it's not necessary i think
I think it's not that big deal to add a Check if the name you want to pick is claimed or not. Most online communities (Games, Forums, etc.) has this too. Not a big priority but still worth to add it (somewhen, when one of the developers is bored /runs)
Unnecessary, because even if the username is already taken, you still able to get it. If the user didn't played too much or not even online in the last 1 year. So, you need to click either way.
Then what about checking if the username is eligible to be taken instead?
