How exciting it is to see a new keymode that has been introduced in osu!mania! Can’t wait to create some amazing beatmaps for fun or to push into the ranked section! What? Where is the 10 key mode choice in the editor? Is it just 7k with extra lanes? How do you create a 10k map that is suitable for beginners?
If you are interested in how a 10k beatmap is created from scratch or have any problem while making them, here's a thorough but simple guide for you! ^w^

● General setting
• To begin mapping a song for o!m, you have to go into the song setup. Then, you go to the advanced options and under "allowed modes" you will select "osu!mania"
• Difficulty:
There is no HP Drain rate limit. But if you want to make a fun and passable map for all level players, the HP rate is recommended to be set from 5 to 9 (6 HP till 8.5 HP if you want to make the difficulty not too hard nor too easy). HP drain increases throughout the difficulties of a set, from the easiest the lowest HP drain progressively to the hardest difficulty the highest intended HP drain.
Just like all mania maps, approach rate is irrelevant so you don’t have to worry about it.
Overall Difficulty can be varied due to different LN pattern choices. If there are more long notes, it is normal to use less OD. But if you have a long note pattern map set, the highest difficulty naturally will have the highest OD. However the OD will be lower on average than most last difficulty short note only maps. We recommend using OD 7 to 10 for maps that are predominantly short note patterns and OD 6.5 to 9 for maps that are rich in complex long note patterns. OD increases from lowest difficulty to highest in a set, you can optionally use the same OD in all difficulties though that is not recommended.

Select 5K and click co-op button
(important!) The co-op option can only be adjusted after you reopen your map in the editor. (important!) You’ll need to create a map in any keymode first before setting the keycount.
Well! Now you have your ten columns setup and ready to map some fun and tasty charts. But where do you even start?
10k mapping is full of possibility and variety due to its wide features, that’s why 10k is so fascinating. The difficulty won’t only rely on more spam and repetitive patterns but also on finger dexterity and the readability of different patterns. For new 10k mappers, it’s quite easy to get lost on their way of their 10k mapping journey. So we got some popular mapping styles and pattern choices that have been used by some of the existing 10k mappers for you as a reference
The first two structures (5k5k and full 10k) are the most popular structures for higher level maps.
Maps are not restricted to follow one of these structures. Depending on the mood and the music atmosphere, the mapper can mix them.

Based on the ranking criteria for lower difficulty design, Here’s some extra guidelines specifically for 10k below insane difficulty:
● Beginner charts in general:
• 10 lanes is a lot, placing notes wide is good for reading.
• Make sure not to overuse one-hand focused sections. It’s a common style to have the drum loop on one hand and the main melody on the other. When one hand is too overwhelmed, make sure to switch the position after some noticeable change in the music.

● Beginner charts for ranked:
Check the osu!mania ranking criteria for more basic guidelines in low difficulties if you’re also new to the mapping circle. This lists some of the extra guidelines for 10k specifically. Basically the same concept as above but it has more formal and specific guidelines for reference. It’s not on the official ranking criteria, but a good enough reason to take it as a guideline
● Easy
For players at this level, they’re just starting to learn the layout and the mappers should try their best to limit the density in single and occasional chords. And avoid heavy patterns on column [1][10] (pinky pattern).
o Try to represent the 1/2 rhythm with both hands.
For not giving too much pressure in one hand. Especially when the consecutive 1/2 usage is around 3~5 as these can become too physically demanding for beginners at this level.
o Chords should be isolated and have, at minimum, a 1/1 break in between them.
It’s hard for beginners to locate the chords with such a wide layout.
o Avoid 1/2 anchors on pinkies.
It’s a relatively hard place to manage minijacks.
● Normal
For players at this level, they can already handle some simple 1/4 patterns and chords. But it’s recommended to not give excessive one-handed patterns, only make notes for pinky at easy parts and avoid heavy chords more than quads.
o Try to represent the successive 1/4 rhythm with simple arrangement.
Like simple stairs and double-handed jumps.
o Avoid chords with more than 3 notes. But allow isolated quad usage and have, at minimum, a 1/1 break from any pattern.
It currently avoids the 7k RC, but since it's in 10 keys and will be unavoidable using quad for symmetry pattern, The “includes long note patterns that involve notes in more than three columns.” in 7k RC remains the same.
o Avoid faster rhythm than 1/4 at pinkies.
However, using it as the start or end of the pattern is fine.
● Hard
Because of the wide layout of 10k, mind successive chord arrangements and keep them relatively easy to hit.
o Bracket usage on one hand should be limited.
Don’t use tricky chords such as [1][3]->[2][4]->[3][5] in 1/2 or faster rhythms on brackety patterns especially when it involves pinky arrangement.

How can I create my own 10k set?
● General setting

Description:
After transferring into osu! The majority of players use a keyboard to play. This gave mappers more freedom since a keyboard layout is homogeneous and not dynamic (you do not move your hands around, each finger is assigned to one column only which doesn’t change like any other ranked mania keycount). In contrast with 5k5k, which is more focused on separated controller-friendly patterns which makes them have more focus on playability on that setup. The patterns became less restricted to certain fingers and each side of the playfield making patterns that use the whole playfield disregarding hand positions possible.
The first two structures (5k5k and full 10k) are the most popular structures for higher level maps.

Became popular recently. According to the pack’s description: It’s 10K but with a custom skin and keybinding. The structure is 6K on the top row of the keyboard, and 4K on the middle row. Having very strict rules on pattern position and visibility on general difficulties due to its custom 4+6k skin, though it’s a cool looking custom mode and easy for the majority of mania players to get started. Really hoping he can pull off some more crazy ideas on his 4+6 pack 2 in the future!
