I have been looking for a recent rhythm game since all the great ones are old and outdated and i found osu! so i decided to give it a shot.

Unfortunately i was disappointed by the offering despite its popularity since the hit sound is just a basic drum or crash or whatever you can customize it to be.

osu!mania is mainly what sparked my interest but it played nothing like the beatmania and djmax series that im used to, so no matter how much you miss, the music would still sound the same. In beatmania and djmax when you miss, the music sounded horrible and when you play perfectly it feels great that you made the music sound how it is intended to sound.

please look into this although i doubt it would be high priority since the fan base doesnt seem to mind.

Anyhow OSU is definitely a great game but im afraid just not for me.

keep up the good work guys :)

Unfortunately, there's no specific section on it. You have to search 1 by 1 if the map has the keysounds of it.

There's 2 ranked maps that has full-keysound and 1 ranked map that has half-keysound.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/63089 - Full-keysound
https://osu.ppy.sh/s/85930 - Full-keysound (piano)

hello there MOdisaster and welcome to osu!. osu!mania was implemented a few months ago, so ranked maps with full keysounds are still very very limited. enjoy your stay here :)
also try being good at osu!standard. it's fun. :)

Can I just deny this since it is up to the mapper to make the hitsounds for a map? If you want to make something play like DJMax, go ahead and try. I don't think there is much else that can be done.

What this guy is saying is that on some games, like say Guitar Hero, when you miss the notes (or just stop playing) the music sounds different, in the GH example if you don't play the map you won't be able to hear the guitar at all from the music. This happens because they get the original tracks which allows them to play the music on one side and the guitar on another.

I have never played the games he is mentioning but I guess the same logic applies. If you miss a lot/just don't play the music will be empty/sound bad. Yet you can only do that (I guess) by having the original tracks (not all together) so you can, for instance, make the piano work as hitsounds, so as long as you are hitting the notes properly you will listen to it while if you miss you won't. There are some osu!mania maps that kind of do this, yet truth is they imitate that effect by adding sounds to the music instead of the original process where you have to hit the notes to get the original song. If we called the music track A and the guitar B (for GH), on osu!'s case it would be like A = the whole music thing including all possible B's from Guitar Hero, and then B would be the hitsounds we have today.

So yeah, that, on those rhythm games hitsounds are what make the music complete, on osu! they are just rhythm helpers that have nothing to do with the original music. Might be wrong tho that's how I remember that worked, custom maps on GH for instance were just like osu!, you could ignore the whole map and the music was the same.

^this. DJMax and other similar games create their own music. Which means they could remove the sounds from the raw music so that it can be used for hitsounds. But since osu! uses publicly available music only, it's technically impossible to make full keysounds unless you remake that song from scratch.
Using full keysounds on an original music would just sounds worse, since if you fail to hit notes on time, you would hear the hitsound twice, overlapping each other with a delay.

I agree that this thread should be denied. Let's leave the making of awesome maps to the mappers. Technically this request is already possible, which should be enough to make this invalid.
