Something is wrong with my mania acc

So, I recently started playing osu mania. I usually play standard and although my accuracy is not the best there either, it's absolutely horrendous on mania.

I've played several other rhythm games like mania, and am pretty decent at them. I have little to no trouble reading anything up to 3.0 star maps in mania.

But my accuracy is consistently late. Sometimes early but mostly late. I get about half 300s, half 200s. I tried changing my offset but that turned my 300s into early 200s.

I'm just really confused. I feel like I'm playing on rhythm, but evidently I'm not. I try to force myself to hit earlier but it doesn't really help.

I don't think it's a "play more" sort of thing. I have tons of experience with games similar to mania. Maybe it's a muscle memory issue? Like... Maybe my hands are used to hit windows of other games?

My reaction time averages about 350ms, could it be that?

Or is it an issue with my hardware? I play on a laptop, so maybe the polling rate in my keyboard is too low?

I just don't see how issues I have with mania wouldn't carry over to other osu gamemodes that I play.

I've gotten really frustrated with it. Will it really go away if I just play more? It really doesn't seem like a matter of inexperience, but then again, I don't really know.

Also, the maps are all ranked or loved and specifically made for mania, so I don't think it's an issue with the maps I'm playing with.

if you're hitting late than go to your skin's folder, go to your skin.ini, and under the 4key section change the line "HitPosition" down. do it in increments of 5 or 10, save the document, and in osu press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S to refresh your skin.

also, ERA zenith (a top acc player) has made a guide on how to improve your acc: community/forums/topics/1217364

i personally have concluded that the only way to improve acc is to play super easy maps, well below your comfort zone. however, zenith also states that your skin/hardware might be preventing you from being able to improve, so you need to address your hardware/skin/setting configuration on osu in order to be able to tap into your highest acc potential. he explains how to do it in his guide, though obviously it wont instantly turn you into a top accuracy player.

if you played other games other than mania than you probably are just accustomed to those game's engines and rulesets. just keep practicing and you'll get used to it soon

np, also i reccomend you make a backup of your skin before making any changes so if you mess something up badly you can recover the normal skin. also if you're using the default skin you should change to literally anything else lmao

probably a minor thing, but also make sure that you're releasing on-time with LNs. osu!mania has this weird thing where you have to release an LN on-time, or else your acc goes to hell. can't hold it forever, for whatever reason.

Me neither. Release timing is a thing in several rhythm games, not just osu. Just get used to it.

it's not that common on the games mania was based on, like stepmania/etterna, but yea its not really weird just a quirk of mania's engine and what types of maps mania appeals to.

but yea it's really important to be able to time your releases properly. you can practice this by experimenting by when you should release the ln based on the rhythm. it took me really long to realize how important it is and it increased my accuracy by a ton ^^
