This topic might be belong to Music Hall instead.

In beatmap info page there is "Genre" field, filled with selectable dropdown list "Unspecified", "Video Game", "Anime", "Rock", "Pop", "Other", etc. On anime maps, most people select this field as "Anime" even through it is a pop/rock song because "it is a pop/rock song, but because it comes from an anime then it is anime"

Most, but some are people also selecting pop/rock rather than anime. Some example I can find is this/this and this/this.

So...
  1. If you map an anime song, should the genre on beatmap info page selected as anime or its respective genre (pop/rock/etc)?
  2. Is anime a real song genre?

1. If it came from an Anime, then the genre should be Anime
2. Yes, it is. (basically J-Pop, but from an anime)

idk but here's my opinion,
The genre should've been set according to the song's metadata such as Rock, Pop, etc. But if the song's adapted by the anime like TV Size, TV edit, or the OST then you could set the genre in "Anime".
But eh, do what you want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

interesting how you even include Video Game in here without even question the same. If Video Game can be categorized, then so would Anime.

anime is a genre but not every song that is in an anime is an anime song, anime genre is specifically stuff like lisa, reona, horie yui, just if you think "extremely generic anime opening" that genre (a subgenre of j-rock and j-pop) is anison
