How do I go about finding BNs to look at my map/nominate it. Do I contact them? Or just wait for them to stumble across my map? Or even something different?

This post isn't necessarily asking for a BN to view my map its merely for information because I've just recently returned to Osu.

You contact them, most of them have all the information you need on their profile page (preferred method, whether or not they're even taking requests, etc). There are way too many maps in the pending section for people to just stumble upon something they like

There's also the queue on the BN site that you can try but I've heard it isn't very fruitful a lot of the time. Doesn't hurt to try though

Most people go to Modding Queues and request their maps in the BN queues (each has specific rules). Some private message them. If you are desperate you can search for events like the nominating events that's currently ongoing from now to 31 May I think.
