ive started learning piano a couple weeks ago

improve my learning of the piano i know it sounds like a dumb
question but im curious

I am not good at piano, but I think I know enough reasons to not play mania for the piano.
  1. Mania has a lot more freedom than piano (music wise). In piano, each note has a set pitch. In mania, you can literally use the deepest note ever on the right side (which is the supposedly highest pitch in piano) So, music or timing wise it's not even close. Mania also represent other musical instrument like drums, etc. Unless a specific map is made for or as close as possible to piano's concept, it will never help you.
  2. Reading. Reading mania and piano is really different, at least without some visual piano programs? Never tried that before
The only thing I could think of is finger control, which you can also achieve (better arguably) by playing the piano.

May improve reaction time with your fingers, but it may be a lot harder when trying to learn.I am decent at piano and I wouldn't say mania would help you really, since piano has more pitched stuff for a song you are playing or something. If you want to learn piano, take lessons or just teach yourself like I did.

I'd say that synthesia would actually be more useful than playing mania and other conveyor rhythm games.
Nameless
lol it won't help you. any thoughts that it might are just wishful thinking. good luck with learning piano though

It works as long as youre the genius slackster Douma Umaru

Hmm, I don't think so, it might help you at controlling your fingers when playing piano, but as for playing the piano itself? Nooooope, it is really different from osu!mania

if you actually follow common sense you already should have known that mania and piano skillsets aren't connected to each other. One relies on visual while the other on memorization to perform. It's like saying playing osu will help you play better at FPS games in general, when in fact it doesn't especially on the long terms. If you want to actually get better on a subject, study on that one only.
Synphonica
It definately won't. As a pianist I see literally no reason why you would get better at piano from playing mania.

It probably wouldn't. The only thing I can think of that osu!mania would help you with is finger control, and that's if you play 6k-10k.

Good luck on learning piano, though.

If you think about it, a 10k map could possibly be correct and the keys maybe the ones you're supposed to hit on the piano, but I'd say that's not so likely for that to be true.

What do you mean not so likely?

Charters/mappers/whatever you call them, if they have a concept in mine (piano in this case), they could just make it. There is probably a (real) piano pack somewhere.

Even then, it wouldn't help you play the piano because of other reasons mentioned above.
Synphonica
No even if you play 10 keys there is no such thing as "finger control." That just doesn't apply. You cant compare two completely different skills and concepts. If you wanna get good at playing piano just practice and put time into it and practice... Don't go making an excuse to your mom by saying that you playing Osu helps piano or something. Cus it just won't
Sugar_owo
That really wouldn't do much with what i said earlier. Since the piano has 2 different types of keys, black and white whatever the fuck they are called, i would say that does much. here would be an accurate representation of me playing a 4k map but just with my keyboard. https://youtu.be/Me7qljofrSw
Can you tell what song that is?
the song
Shelter by Porter Robinson and Madeon

here is what the song SHOULD sound like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB8IyvckpP8

it might for very low level piano pieces if you're playing 18k with a keyboard, anything else and you're better off using synthesia.

Yeah, I'd say the only Mania will do for you is just finger control...

I feel like the above replies are just assuming, as a piano player osu mania can help a lot with finger independece.
Lisapisa18
maybe, when you good in osumania then maybe

Other people have stated this already. In terms of other skills tho it didn't help you much, there are a lot of things that mania basically can't help you anywhere since they're just nonexistent.

If you want to get good at one subject, study on that subject only would be the best way.
Haengsyo
As someone who played piano for almost a decade, I feel like finger independency hardly translates over to osu mania 4k or 7k. As for the other way around, I have no clue, but most likely not since not only the way you read is nothing alike, you aren't even building the proper muscle memory you need to play piano.
