Why doesn't my menu background change when I set custom skins ?, the background remains the stock OSU slideshow of images when ever I try to change it.

The menu background is a supporter-only feature
You need an osu!supporter to use it.

Now that I'm a supporter what steps do I need to take to change the background?Wowcake wrote:

Drag the image that you want to be the background to the osu! window
Alternate way : Change the image name to "menu-background.jpg" and drop it to the skin folder that you're using.

when I drag the image to osu window it gives me an error "please enter the editor before trying to add background images"Wowcake wrote:

and the alternate way doesn't change the image either, could it be that I need to wait longer before closing and reopening osu to restart it?
Make sure you drag the image in the osu! main menu screen, not anywhere else.

yup that was the culprit, I had it set to sometimes, now it works.Wowcake wrote:
