I've always been curious what other people think about people saying stuff like "if it's so easy go do it yourself". I personally find it idiotic, why would you have to replicate something in order to state your opinion. Would like to hear your opinions on this.

It gets under my skin (like the saying of rubbing salt into the wound). I find it irritating to hear that from other people and I also find it a bit childish.

usually this is said when that person is trying to make you do something you either cant, wont, or dont want to do, so I dont see a problem with it, its stupid because its meant to be a jab at the often said, "its easy, itll take you like <insert favorite short amount of time>" that is often just wrong.

as long as the guy who said it can actually do it then im fine with it

Calling somebody else's work "easy" is where saying "then do it yourself" is justified
Calling somebody else's work bad is where saying "then do it yourself" is ridiculous.

The only people who are justified in having that argument are people with a single digit age, as they have no grasp on the world.

my question is since when was this an argument and not an insult? its a completely valid insult in my opinion, when used correctly towards someone who is trying to get something out of you that you cant or aren't willing to give by downplaying the effort it would take you, for example when an artist is asked to draw something for free, being told that it wouldn't take them much time / effort. Or when someone is trying to downplay someone else's achievements and being unaware of or ignoring the difficulty of them.
