Okay first of all: This thread is not meant to be a ad or anything like that. It is made for a discussion about 'Hexis'.

So i stumbled over Hexis today and i didnt really get it.
Are these guys haters or trolls or are they deadserious?
Imo it doesnt really make any sense to copy the concept of Osu! and as far as i am concerned it is even illegal? (patent stuff)
So where is the point?

Please take this serious and dont let it end in a dissaster. (It will anyway, no matter what.)

It's a good thing that osu! is an original game and no other games have been created and been released preceding osu! that have similar concepts.

But it's also not the first time that it's been done. Granted, it'll fail, so I'd say not to worry about it.

Granted I haven't looked on the site, so Idunno much about it.

peppy said that whoever isn't satisfied with how osu! works to quit and create their own community.

We're trying to do that. :)
[Luanny]
implying osu! isn't a copy from another game.
Vish024
I think all discussions and threads about it here are prohibited.

In short, Hexis basically consists of outcasts and rejects of the osu! community who disagree with the direction in which this game is going and so have decided to sod off and create their own game to rival osu!. There's many projects that have "copied" the concept of another game and gotten away with it. As for how successful Hexis will be, no idea. Time will tell?

As first: What is Hexis?

so you are seeing yourself as the 'better-than-osu-community' which you are a part of?
[Luanny]
we shouldn't be talking about mankor here anyways.
vipto, you better post on hexis' forum for more information.
Mismagius
No, the game is simply trying to make the things work as some people thought it'd be better to. It's not supposed to be "better" or anything.

Well, whatever, peppy will AW this thread in a few minutes, so yeah, this discussion is pretty much useless.

Afaik, free to play games can violate patents. Which is good since osu! isn't a unique concept. (See Ouendan)
That said, if their interest was in making a good game, they would be working with peppy, not against him. Therefore, their project is doomed.

Ahhh. Logical argumentation. Wonderful! :)
Agree :)
[Luanny]
I think Hexis' intention was to make something completely different form what osu! is nowadays and to do what we can't do here
Like some denied feature requests, rules etc o.o
We don't need to ~hate~ one to be part of the other
Vish024
I find the rivalry developing between the two communities particularly interesting.

A healthy rivalry I daresay.

If you are not happy with the way Osu! goes: You are free to quit. Please quit.

If you want to act like a smartass and agree with anything an admin says, go ahead, but that won't make you respected in the community, js.
[Luanny]
actually Hexis' community isn't really as huge as osu!'s, so rivality would be unfair (?)
I don't see this as rivality, really
when is this going to be AW?

i agreed wit mm because i think what he is saying there makes sense, not bcuz hes an admin
Vish024
New Zealand and Aus have a rivalry, but our population's are completely different.
Mismagius
This is seriously going nowhere.
Vish024
Oh you realised did you?

Yep it is, thanks to people like BD and Luanny...
Thx for ruining the thread :)

This isn't a competition.
[Luanny]
oh, sorry for showing my opinion
I thought it was General Discussion
So, pretty much anyone who disagrees with you is ruining the thread?
Nice.

The goal is to show your opinion, not to show it and then argue.
I confess, i got a bit offensive so lets all calm down and see other peples opinions.
[Luanny]
I wasn't offensive at any point
What I'm trying to say is that this is not a competition, but two different communities
ok hexis is strongly based on osu! but what's the problem? osu! itself is based on another game, we don't need to fight just because other people had the same idea and wanted to try to make some things better.
With >some things better<, I mean what I previously said: stuff we wanted to have here but we couldn't.

It even has imported maps from Osu! ._.
[Luanny]
because its system hasn't grown enough to make its own beatmap formats yet?
._.

But anyways, let me express the concept "Pick and choose your own battles."

You have two sides, both strongly opinionated. Nothing either side will say will be effective because of two reasons

1. The side that supports osu! looks like "Oh ur just a sili fanboi bcuz ur admin sed it wuz gud"
2. The side that supports Hexis looks like "VIVA LA REVOLUCION OSU SUKZ LOLOLOL"

Even though this might not be the original intention, that is what the sides see each other as. Therefore, no side is willing to change opinions. So you get 2 pages of "Wel im betr" "no im betr"

So what do you do? You can do one of two things. You can either

A) Drop the issue and not continue pointless banter
B) Continue bantering until stopped by outer forces.

Sadly, with choice A, sides may have pride lost by seeming to have been "beat out", so most go with opinion B, to continue debating endlessly.

So we're stuck with people being like "HURP WELP THIS IS GONNA BE AWED ANYWAY BUT LET'S DEBATE HERE, I CAN SURELY CHANGE OPINIONS" or "PLS COME BACK TO THE LIGHT SIDE ITS BETTER"

and nothing is done.

So instead of being like "this is going nowhere" or "we should stop posting", actually do so and just stop. Then people don't get angry. It's fine to fix discrepencies maturely, but when it just becomes a debate on what is better, then people get mad and no happy ponies.

However, from the posts that I've seen, Hexis shouldn't be considered "the outcasts who want the revolution." They should be seen as a legitimate group. Even though I disagree with the whole premise (I will be checking out the game myself, so I'm not just making opinions based off of "hurr it's different let's oppose it.", and not just immediately dismissed. However, it should also be noted that with the size of osu! at this point, that Hexis is rather an alternative rather than a competitor. It's kind of like Maplestory private servers. Due to Maplestory's popularity, it will ALWAYS be dominant. It will always be making money, and it will always be in the top. However, if people want to see things differently, then they have the option to make private servers (which I believe are illegal, I forget Nexon's policy), where they can increase rates, change monsters, have their own events, etc.)

Also I've noticed that smaller private servers, unless they become insanely popular, generally die off within a few months to a few years. Just a statement.

tl;dr: Stop babbling about what's better and just let it exist. If it stays somewhat popular, realize that it won't be as popular as osu!. Realize also that if Hexis loses popularity, then it dies off on its own. It's no issue to where the press should be informed and stressed out (Unless it has been explicitly stated that by copyright law, private servers are not allowed.).

But idunno, it's a bit weird that people who use the different server still use osu! every day. Not taking sides, just an observation.
dkun
yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh, no
this is going in circles

CDFA's post basically tl;dr's this
peppy
This thread kind of went downhill quite fast. I can see why people are quick to take sides, but I don't see any need to. If people are unhappy with how osu! is run, this definitely gives those players a path of lesser friction. Personally I don't see the need for such a product to exist – and would have been very happy to have the extra development power pushing osu! forward instead, since there's still so much to do – but I have no issues with the fact it does. It will probably benefit osu! in many ways going forward.

That said, I don't think there is a need to continue this discussion here due to the direction these discussions tend to take. Those interested in the game, are more than welcome to go check it out. Please don't go if you intend to flame them or similar, and try and take a neutral perspective without jumping to conclusions.

Also don't try and call it a "clone". As has been mentioned, osu! is already based off other game. The only way it could be called a clone is if they are using graphics or sounds from osu! (which I believe they still are in some areas, but this will likely change). I want nothing to do with software patents and don't believe they should even be a thing, as long as no code/art/etc. is directly ported across.

The only issue I will have is if people start advertising other games like this in the osu! community. This is not due to competition, but the fact that I am strongly against any form of advertising. If you see this occurring, please report it using !report in chat (goes for _any_ advertising on osu!).

Disclaimer: I haven't played the game, and don't have any intention on doing so as I would rather spend that time working on my own things. You guys are free to do what you want. Remember that we are talking about games here, which are meant to provide fun and enjoyment. Make sure you are doing so. If you have any issues with this topic being locked, please follow them up in a PM to me.
