Ventus had the best keyblade style, but Aqua was the best of the three. She didn't have much competition though

Seibei4211
Yeah, I thought Aqua had the best keyblade style. At least for me. She was at least the best aerial keyblade fighter. She did vertical slashes in the air, which is what you need to keep an aerial combo going. I think she was also capable of flying downwards a bit to hit someone, which is helpful. I don't know if I was just imaging this, but it seemed like she had the longest dash distance when attacking distant enemies on land, too. Ventus' attacks looked cooler though.

Anyway, just beat the game finally. Tried beating the first secret boss a few times. Fuuuuck thaaat. I'll save that headache for when I inevitably have to do it in the next KH Collection. By the way, Kingdom Hearts II, Birth By Sleep, and Coded seem to be on the next KH Collection. There's HD videos of those games at the end of 1.5 Remix.

Now that BBS is done, time to get back to Valkyrie Profile. And hopefully some AT2. And I'd really like to play some Joe Danger 2...

that's cool but is Coded getting the "Cutscene Only" treatment? Because that was a dick move to 358/2 days

I dunno yet. I just know those three games are gonna be on it in some way. I wanna know if it's gonna be coded or Re:coded (probably Re:coded). I'm not looking forward to getting the Birth By Sleep plat. If you have to get 100% in that, then that'd suck hard.

I played VP3 today. I really liked that. I guess I'm not so allergic to TRPGs. I got into some tough situations already, since you can't grind, but I still beat them. I don't know if I could deal with Fire Emblem's permadeath shit though. I let one of my party members die at one point since I didn't want to waste one of my 2 turns of double stats. I guess if I knew she would've died for good, I would've just healed her. But there was another time when she got frozen and taken down to 10 HP. That'd be a little too close for comfort in a permadeath game.
Ivalset
It's not much to think about in Fire Emblem. When someone dies, most people just restart. And usually, if someone is dying, you fucked up pretty hard and overextended or something. Or let a flier get hit by an archer.

They give you a bunch of tools to see enemy movement/attack ranges and stuff, so you know when you're taking risks.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, there may be some better tools or something to keep you from dying for no reason in Fire Emblem. I know in VP3, archers and sorcerers are the bane of my existence. Sorcerers do the status effects I don't like and archers find their way into every conflict in the beginning. Gotta give the AI some credit in this game. They're pretty good about picking someone and focusing damage on them. But yeah, in VP3, it takes some work, but you can figure out where it's safe to be to not get hit by enemies (although it's pretty hard to know when you're safe from an archer/sorcerer). It'd be nice if it was a bit easier to figure that out, but whatever.

Wow. So Gamestop's got a thing going on where if you buy God of War: Ascension online, you get the God of War Saga for free. That's 6 games for $60. Not bad. God of War Saga's $40 just by itself.
awp
I've seen GoW Saga for about $20 in pawn shops but $40 brand new is good considering it's 5 full games

There. PlayStation Club. I even made the first post totally general. And now for something completely different. I've been going on a F2P MMO rampage lately. Tried out Scarlet Blade, Dragon Nest, Vindictus, Remnant Knights, Rusty Hearts, and Continent of the 9th Seal. Dragon Nest and Vindictus are probably my favorites out of them all. C9 was promising, but it crashed on me because my computer can just barely run it at all. I can also barely run Vindictus. I've got that on the second lowest graphic setting, but it works.

So Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance went down to $20 recently. Finally broke down and bought it. I didn't like the demo when I played it and after playing Birth By Sleep, I was even less excited about it since I thought it used a similar battle system. And in the demo, the Flowmotion stuff hadn't won me over, since I couldn't get it to work very well. I've done a complete fucking 360 about the game. I love it so hard. I've gotten used to the Flow-mo, they got rid of some of the most annoying parts about BBS, but kept the good stuff, they made the bosses cooler, the worlds and general enemies are more fun, and I even don't mine the Dream Eaters now. I think this has become my third favorite Kingdom Hearts overall and my favorite handheld version. Although Sora is really annoying in this one... His voice and his personality are so different from Kingdom Hearts II, even though this is supposed to take place afterwards. Also, I think he got shorter for some reason. Maybe this is all story-related and I don't even know. But Riku is obviously his KHII self, with shorter hair.
Ekaru
It's $20 now? I think I'll have to eventually go for it, then.

Yeah, if you haven't finished the game yet, Sora's personality regression is kinda sorta explained later on.

Seibei4211
Yeah, I've only just hit Prankster's Paradise. I backtracked and did a bunch of special portals and stuff. The dudes in the Tron world on Riku's side were kinda mean, so the extra leveling up didn't hurt. I'm glad I did BBS before this game, since there's so many references to things introduced in BBS. BBS and 3D are basically the least "spin-off" of the spin-offs.
Haneii

Seibei4211 wrote:

Neither of them are spin-offs.
Azure_Kite
Yeah, they're both canon, yet still not a numbered title ;A;

Although, I feel 3D is probably the closest to a numbered title in terms of quality than any of the other non-numbered titles to date.

Also, the secret message in the credits when you reach 100%!

"The past will be reawakened as a new number in never-before-seen detail. Prepare yourself for the awakening of the next number."
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
I don't think spin-off and non-canon are the same thing. I wasn't saying that any of them weren't canon, I'm just saying BBS and 3D are the most important, story-wise, out of the non-numbered games. Like I played 358/2, but the story in that is basically inconsequential to the rest of the series. Like there's interesting stuff and whatever, but you could skip it and not miss out much. I haven't done Chain of Memories yet, but I bet it's pretty helpful in bridging the gap between 1 and 2. BBS has lots of ideas that radiate throughout the rest of the series and 3D is supposed to be a primer for KH3. Haven't done coded, but it doesn't seem like it's as important as those two.
awp
BBS started life as a PS2 game and was supposed to always be considered part of the "main" storyline. The only ones that aren't really noteworthy are Re:Coded and 358/2 days. 358/2 had some core components to it, but very little. Coded was the least important. I don't even really remember what the point of it was, other than "The hurting will be mended when you return to end it"

I absolutely loved KHDDD. The Flowmotion system has essentially spoiled me though and every other KH is going to feel boring/slow paced. Also, the secret boss in DDD is stupidly difficult and even exploiting the AI it's a pain in the ass.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, Flowmotion is pretty awesome. Although I still really like Reactions from KHII. If they could replace Reality Shifts with Reactions in KHIII, we'd have a real winner. Although I do miss drive forms and summons and stuff. And if the secret boss is harder than the one in BBS, then I'm just not even gonna bother. Why'd they have to start making the secret bosses absolutely unfair and cheap? Like jeez.
Dieathan
Usually there's some sort of reward for defeating these uber powerful and cheap secret bosses. It's usually a powerful keyblade or something, but in the original KH (Not Final Mix), you get nothing for all the effort you put into defeating the secret bosses. I was rather annoyed when I discovered that.
awp
you get the Ultima Keyblade for beating the boss, but that's always pointless since hey, you've defeated the toughest enemy, aka the one guy you needed that keyblade for

I don't even remember the secret boss in KH: BBS. But I'm pretty sure I unlocked/accomplished everything?
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
I didn't get to the final boss. I fought the guy before him and on Proud mode, he could one shot me with literally any attack he used, so I just said screw it because I didn't even like BBS that much.

awp, I think you're pretty much required to buy Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.
adam2046
Just finished Revengeance, it's pretty great.
I think I'm going straight into a Very Hard Wooden Sword only playthrough before giving up in a fit of rage by level 2.

I'm honestly surprised I never got tired of the blade mode stuff throughout the entire game.
awp
I'm also required to play Far Cry 3 from what I've seen!
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Well, yeah, it's pretty good. But definitely Blood Dragon. Like that game is right up your alley. Even if you end up not liking the gameplay (although I don't know why that would happen), you'd probably end up liking the rest of it. Blood Dragon is good as a cheap precursor to Far Cry 3 is you liked the gameplay though.
Ivalset
Hey Selphie, was that fuse demo worth downloading at all? Is it even a good game?
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
I think if they had kept the game as Overstrike and not made it serious like it is now, it would have been better. This game's a little harder than I thought it'd be. Like their Normal mode is like most games' Hard mode. You just totally go down like a bitch. Maybe that's so people actually use Dalton's shield and Izzy's healing stuff. Anyway, I like that you get XP for stuff, skill trees are always cool, and being able to switch between characters is really handy so you can play as Naya, then switch to Izzy when someone goes down. Or like, you can have someone hold a sniper so you don't have to give up your shotgun or something. Doing the game by yourself would probably suck because the AI are a bunch of piddling dipshits, but I did half the demo by myself and that was fine. It's satisfying to use Naya's weapon and get a whole chain of dudes to explode. Because this is Insomniac Games we're talking about, I'm gonna have to give them the benefit of the doubt and buy the game.
Ivalset
Well, that sounds good enough for me. I'd been hearing a bunch of mixed things about it.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, I dunno. It's one of those things that you gotta try it to decide for yourself. It's hard to tell someone whether it's good or not. Just depends on what you like in a game. It's not a game where you can just run through and blast everyone to shit. The one thing I didn't get to try in the demo was Fusion abilities. I know at least one of them lets you be invincible or something. They could prove interesting. Anyway, Naya's stealth is pretty awesome. You can go invisible, move around, shoot people while staying invisible, and once you get a skill point in it, you do extra damage while invisible. And you can keep reapplying invisibility for as long as you have Xenotech ammo or whatever it's called. Her weapon's really fun to use and Izzy's is pretty fun to use, too. I didn't try Dalton or Jacob, but I know what their abilities are.

Penny Arcade's giving away Steam codes for Precipice of Darkness 3. I think awp might be interested in that. Don't know how many codes they have to give away. I'd suggest getting Steam up and running and at the correct window and stuff, then generating the code and putting it in immediately. I got the code, then opened Steam up and stuff, and by the time I put the code in, it had already been redeemed or something. It also took me, like, 5 tries of putting the captcha code in for a code to actually generate. It's weird.

I bought the game for a dollar when it went on sale at Jerry's behest. I don't think it has all the extra content, whatever that is, but I've got the core experience, which is good. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two and, while notably different, the third takes inspiration from Grandia - which, for those not in the know, was one of the best RPG experiences on the Juggernaut of RPGs, the Playstation
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
The extra content is mostly some skins, the best one being the gender swapping skins, but there's also a mini-prequel thing that bridges episodes 2 and 3, apparently. And it's just a linear thing that doesn't even have a world map and you just do 29 battles in a row or something.

I've been playing Splinter Cell: Blacklist lately. Probably one of the most satisfying stealth games I've played. That game just gives you so many options for how to deal with people. And the best part of that game is the feature where you can get seen, but as long as you kill that guy before he reacts, you're good.

I'll be picking up Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix tomorrow. Been wanting to go back to the first one and I can finally do Chain of Memories.

Grasshopper announced their new game. Lily Begamo or something like that. All I know about it is you play as a female character and it looks Japanese as hell. The art style looks like faux 3D anime.

I also saw some footage of Guilty Gear Xrd. That shit's crazy. It's 3D models, but they move like they do in the 2D versions of the game. I don't even know how they got that to work. Usually when a game goes 3D, it kind of loses the 2D movement, but they somehow recreated that.

Kingdom Hearts all day every day

lots of visual bugs I never noticed before, particularly in the TextureFace cutscenes (characters talking but mouths not moving). Either a bug of the remake or just too hard to notice back when it was STANDARD DEEEEEEE

I've only just beaten Wonderland, but so far I haven't seen a single graphical bug that doesn't seem like it came from the original version. Compared to Deadlocked HD, this game's graphics are perfect. In fact, watch 20 seconds of this. Then you can be glad that Kingdom Hearts ONLY has the bugs that it has.

Ok, in October on PS+, we're getting Kingdoms of Amalur and Shadow of the Colossus. If anyone hasn't played one of these, now's the time. Talk about a heavy hitting month.
awp
heard Amalur was mediocre, but SotC is an incredible game and as far as I know, one-of-a-kind
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Amalur is one of my favorite RPGs. It's good if you like action RPGs. It lasts a very long time, has pretty good and customizable combat, and almost never freezes or anything. So I'd rather play that than a Bethesda game with all its freezing and frame rate issues. I don't know where you heard that the game was mediocre, but that's a cynical viewpoint, because this game has a number of really good reviews. I guess this is a game where you have to decide for yourself instead of letting the reviews tell you, because it has a large range of reviews. A general score cannot be agreed upon. Anyway, the damn thing's gonna be free, so it's worth looking at.
awp
Free, or Free for PSN users?

I have somehow taken a liking to speedrunning Kingdom Hearts, which never occurred to me as a game to speedrun. My current objective is Final Rest under 4:30. Then 4, then 3:30. After that I'll be hard pressed to get to Final Rest in under 3 hours but it IS possible

Oh my God, I did all of those fucking Gummi Missions. I think I'd rather fight Sephiroth than do some of those again. They are so nerve-wracking.

Anyway, at first I thought your speedrun times were pretty good, and they are, and I was wondering how you did it so fast, but then I remember that I was doing my Speedster playthrough at the same time as my Unchanging Equipment playthrough. Having to use the Kingdom Key and no accessories blows. I'm pretty amazed at how fast a person can get through this game, because it really doesn't feel like something you'd call a 4 hour game.

Kingdom Key is a HUGE gimp, especially in the End of the World.

There's a few things I still need to do for my speedrun. The 4 hour final rest was my first attempt. I'm not 100% sure if Halloween Town is optional or not; I read that you need to do either that or Atlantica and FUCK Atlantica. Gummi ships are a time sink if you don't upgrade your ship, which costs 500 Munny for the Sys level 1 upgrade (required for better engines) and a better engine. I think you can get a Flare gummi from a treasure chest but I don't know which one as of yet

Also, Disgaea D2 came out and is AMAZING and I'm not playing any other games ever for the forseeable future

hands down best Disgaea game it's just so perfect
