Hey all, how do you recover from missing in a stream?

Most of the time I never recover from a miss in a stream, but very rarely I do recover (only to miss again because I'm very off beat). Currently what I do is just try to align the notes visually with the hitarea and then just try and recover from there. However that method obviously seems to have a very low success rate - there must be a better way to recover than that. I've tried applying tactics i've learned from standard, like slowing down and speeding up, but that seems to not work (or at least i'm not doing it correctly). Any tips?

ps. sorry if i'm using incorrect terminology

This is something I've struggled a lot with in the past, and I still do, but here are three of my best tips:

1) Try to align yourself with the white bars that appears. If I'm missing way to much, I usually just wait for the white bar and try to hit the note that is on it.

2) Try to get back into the stream at kkkk or dddd patterns. To get back at these patterns or any easy pattern in the stream in general (another example is dkdkdkd) is a great way to start hitting the notes again.

3) Lastly, the skin that you are using could be holding you back. Most skins are fine, but some skins have a way to big hit error animation that can block your view from seeing exactly where to hit the note.

Hope this helps ◕‿↼

this tip is really helpful. the white lines land on some pretty important/notable parts of the music (the beginning of a measure, i know...), which makes it easier to get your rhythm back and successfully recover the stream. thanks for this!

ps. sorry for the bump
