I'm new to the game and find it so annoying having this thing pop up every time I reset to tell me how much I've failed. This seems like something you would obviously be able to turn off but i guess not. & yes I know you can shift tab to hide everything but i want to see the other stuff obviously.

It's not dumb, it's justified. Having a feature that nobody besides you need is completely pointless. Just imagine if you went offline for so long and that feature is not used anymore, someone will eventually request to remove it, now that's actually dumb.

if you're really that upset about the retry counter can't you just make or find a skin element that overlaps on top of the retry counter? because that is a thing that tournament players do to their scorebar-bg.png element in order to hide what ranking they are at any given point in a match because its just really distracting.
