background
im old. i do weird maps. im very opinionated.
i answer mods in a particular way. my methods are mostly legacy posts from the original modding v1, so expect walls and stuff.

how to apply
criteria
i have certain preferences when it comes to maps. i look for maps that i think are interesting to look at and explore with. a few factors i consider include
 1. song factors, including music i hate/like
 2. rigor and consistency of the chart
 3. creative expression -- i.e. demonstration of interesting, novel, cool, or otherwise refreshingly-implemented concepts and ideas
 4. mapper experience & prior maps
 5. legacy relations, personal contacts, and personal interest
 6. responses to the application form (see below)
 7. your behavior on ur map/elsewhere, as relevant
other rules
 1. i'll choose the difficulties to mod.
 2. i only do 4K.
 3. some degree of proficiency in english is required (cause i might go complex and stuff when i write) but i don't really mind as long as i can understand you.
 4. factors are non-exhaustive and are not equally weighted. the first three points are considered highly important, however.
 5. i will actually read your responses. application form response lengths need not be super long. don't overthink it.
 6. i don't have m4m.
 7. don't bother me, i'll take my time. how long i take to get to your map roughly corresponds to how much i like it.
 8. no closing or opening of queue, but i'll post here if your map is accepted.
 9. i'll leave comments on the notion page about your map and why i accepted/rejected your map and others. +/- indicate good/bad points. in unusual cases i will also add ++/--, to signify great/not so great stuff.
application form
fill in the fields below properly in your post. i will not consider applications that have missing fields, but i'll still add them either way -- just don't expect to be accepted though.

tell me about your map you want me to mod. why do you like it?:

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?:

diversity & inclusion statement
though I'm not a BN and don't really have strict control over the process, I want to promote people who haven't been able to see the ranked section.

if i find that your chart's pretty outstanding, I might push the map for you -- of course, depending on availability, quality, etc.

similarly, even if your chart's not quite up to my expectations, I'm happy to mentor/guide some of you with the creative process in general. I'll either let you know through DMs or the mod itself; but my main goal is to provide an alternative voice for you to explore charting, and perhaps get some of your stuff recognized as well.

loved access program
access the loved spreadsheet here
submit your map for loved here

so i've decided to link my loved stuff with my mod queue, which comes with a few pointers:
 1. i recognize the limitations of a single comment box, so if you want a more thorough exploration of your chart then submit it in the queue below
 2. do indicate in your post that you're from the loved spreadsheet, so i can give your chart additional consideration beyond the standard form
 3. your map doesn't need to be 'for ranked' for consideration. anything goes!
in part this is an extension of the committment i made about access, and i hope this makes it easier for anyone who's not as connected with the community or otherwise.

that's all. good luck ! !

comment on your map you want me to mod below. why do you like it?: i like this file enough to push it for ranked bc i think the patterning and layering do a good job of representing the song. i like the difficulty curve of the file too (even if its pretty frontloaded). also i love toby fox..

a1: playing the song as opposed to playing along? idk

free response (preferably 100~ words)
a1: i think i like this map as i think of the song having 5 seasons, each having their own structure, feel and intensity about them. every section in the map reflects that idea. having a very loosely structured long note section. then a section of broken js, with lots of structured jacks and trills. after that a very technical section that builds up intensity, which heads into a very expressive hybrid section. finally ending off with js/hs patterns, using jumps and trills effectively to convey sounds. it feels like the song, going through different emotions all in the span of 2mins.

a2: i find interest in charting cus i really like being able to make something that emulates the songs. i generally like charts that have this feel to it, as if the artist themself replicated the song into a chart. I also enjoy the artistic value to it, adding your own style or your own take to something really makes it feel special. i think i'm moving towards that direction, but i still need to work on a lot of things.

describe your style of charting in 10 words or fewer: My main focus in mapping is to try to represent the song as close as I can so that it can have a fitting intensity without it being overmapped. But my main focus are primairly "simple-ish" LNs

free response (preferably 100~ words)
comment on your map you want me to mod below. why do you like it?: I specifically like the map because I tried to push myself out of the comfort zone because I don't usually map anything this high SR (for 4K of course). I tried to express the sci-fi feel of the song by using a variety of LNs and jack - type of patterns but still trying to make the map play as good as possible. The map contains a mixture of patterns. The first half of the map is mostly oriented on simple LNs, 1/8 bursts and small minijacks here and there. Then it progresses into a more intense section where there are a lot of minijacks, and finally a huge burst, and it ends with a pattern that is mapped densly with LNs.

I talk a lot about charting being an art form and all. tell me about your interest in charting -- be it in expressing the songs you love, or making patterns that play nicely. these are just examples, however, and you may choose to expand on this question however you like.: I generally started charting songs that I like, and when I started to play more and more with the editor I realized that you can do tons of stuff with SVs, different type of patterns that most of the people didn't see, hitsounds etc. I find that very exciting because I can express the song in many different ways that hopefully will surprise players while playing my maps.

PS: Please ignore SVs, they will mostly all be deleted and redone

Thanks!

comment on your map you want me to mod below. why do you like it?: Diff spread. With 4 people doing 1 difficulty each, thing can be a bit hard to moderate - how wild does the interpretation vary between people? - and like. I dunno why I liked this song, maybe it is because it is popular in my region or somehow.

I talk a lot about charting being an art form and all. tell me about your interest in charting -- be it in expressing the songs you love, or making patterns that play nicely. these are just examples, however, and you may choose to expand on this question however you like.: I hardly ever map anime, and all of my anime-related stuff (currently only 2 songs) are GDs. I love to map rhythm game songs because these songs allows a lot more space for expression with a really high amount of potential notes. Following the music is somehow my main principle; I like higher keycounts as you can make a chart more rhythm-related there, be it map-to-pitch or something, so it feel like they are playing a song instead of smashing keys...And while it is good to follow the ranking criteria breaking rhythm representation to follow the RC is not worth a trade.

Thanks

comment on your map you want me to mod below. why do you like it?: Mainly patterning and consistency check. The reason I choose to push this map to the ranked section is that this is my best LN Chart so far, and I think this fits the song really well. The last part has a few speed patterns to go with the intensive part of the song, which might cause inflation on sr but it works wonderfully, imo.

Every time during mapping I test the chart all the time to check if it goes with the flow of the song or if the notes can be hit comfortably. And this is the one the works that I'm pretty proud of and going for ranked with.

I think the amount of moderation I've been getting is limited, and this might help a lot more to understand where I am with my map and how I should fix many aspects of it. This song really means a lot to me because it was one of my first collaborations with another mapper. And all honesty it's a song that I got used to over the past few months, seeing as those types of songs I generally like listening to.

Honestly I believe that Tsui no Maihime is my best map yet, seeing as I put a lot of dedication into making each difficulty what it is. And I think that the song should make the patterns, not the patterns making the song.

And the music I chose is the full version from Arcaea's sound collection album, which means even better. Third, this song helped me to upgrade my understanding in streams, I believe I can try some dump streams now. Finally, Tairitsu is my waifu

The reason I started to creating charts is I want to express the songs I love. Like this map, I always like long durationg songs because that means it can be ranked by only one diff. Yes, I don't like lower diffs or full map set, because I think lower diff is not respecting the artist of that song (unless the song's nature is good for low diff). It's like you created some project for a month or even longer, and someone else want to try to use a paragraph to describe your work. So I think that all charts should express the music itself.

This map was my second time messing around with SVs and I wanted to see what I could do. I think the SVs in the map, although very heavy, Compliment the map and help to fill dead space and to add an interesting feel to the map as a whole. I really like the pattern usage in this map, although I know that some parts are not perfect, I want them to be. I tried to use patterns and rhythms that would not make the map feel overmapped, but at the same time, not undermapped. I tried to use SVs in a way that was not very conventional to regular maps, and I wanted the SVs to help me to express the song in a way that I could not do with regular mapping. Some help with making the Jack/stream part at 5min more fun and cleaning up the LN part at 11min would be greatly appreciated.

I talk a lot about charting being an art form and all. tell me about your interest in charting -- be it in expressing the songs you love, or making patterns that play nicely. these are just examples, however, and you may choose to expand on this question however you like.: The reason I first began to create charts was to try and diversify the types of maps people see. I didn't want to make generic maps at all. Most of my maps have a theme and purpose, except for the few maps that i still have uploaded when i was first learning to map. I wanted to experiment with everything including SV, dump, chordjack, longjack, LN, stamina, speed etc. So I made a map trying each one out, and I failed. But I'm glad i failed, I wouldn't have ever been able to learn how to do each of those things better if I had not. I now know how to do the things that express the song best, in the best way that i can and its all because I failed at making good maps to begin with.

hi all!

updated the notion page with the latest maps, completed some of the ones i accepted. i moved one map from the waitlist as well, which i'll get to by the end of the week.

one more thing: i'd suggest putting a bit more thought into the short response, cause i'm actually reading those you know. try adding a bit more personal flair; perhaps by trying to not use common charting terms like streams, lns, svs, etc.

one one more thing: actually do take the time to check the comments i leave on the notion page, because some of you might be interested i think.

> i don’t like this format imo because it is not as short and concise as the other modding queues, and it’s really personal.

to be apathetic of factors outside of "mapping quality" is to be complicit in perpetuating both implicit bias towards those that already have a name for themselves and the idea that ranking must be strictly tied to your worth as an individual in this community

> Please put only the things that will help you on modding the map, not understanding the mapper, this doesn’t help you with modding the map.

the responses do help a lot, actually. why should i work with some half-hearted person if there's probably a few hundred other more interested, invested, and committed charters? don't see the issue at all.

> I don’t want to write anything personal just for a mod req. And no, i will not make it more personal.

these two are redundant together, i think we get your point

outside of questionable motivation, you already have some attention in another community (Quaver), so i doubt i can help with your endeavors as much. this all could've been done on the notion page, but perhaps it'll be good to respond on here

I like this file particularly in the past because I've seen the inspiration namely from a collaboration between Valedict and Evening years ago. I do think that their version is quite fun, but also quite janky in particular due to their charting styles being meticulously different. Their chart has seen a good amount of competitive play in the past (around 2016-2017?), though now it doesn't age very well due to better charts that has this kind of merit. To me, I decided to tackle this chart with properly knowing how their version was made, and I gotta say that I made an okay job in representation compared to their collab version. It was one of my best accurate files to make, and I find this song to be quite underrated in comparison to other Camellia songs (mainly because MEGANTO METEOR album was a bit unheard of compared to other Camellia's more popular albums), thus I like Camellia's breakcore take on this, so there's a reasonable connection to that as well.

I talk a lot about charting being an art form and all. tell me about your interest in charting -- be it in expressing the songs you love, or making patterns that play nicely. these are just examples, however, and you may choose to expand on this question however you like.:
My interest in charting has been growing on me since early 2018 - where people have been working hard to make tournament files at that time (tournament files during that period have been pretty scarce), and I tried making files to follow that trend and it hasn't been very successful due to how different the tournament format was (whether it be player nerves, playability, and so on). My inspirations as a charter grew when people made actually very fun, technically correct files that I adore so much, and there it begins my learning progression to analyze every charts they made. It was a pretty steep learning curve since my memory was only limited to learning by looking them at editor, but eventually I understood a lot of reasons why charters do this and that.
I have no particular favourites on the songs that I like, mainly because I only listen to music pretty occasionally so there's a lack of hint in musical terminology, but as time goes on, I appreciated them more since music is definitely a form of expression that I was missing on these years.

I really enjoyed charting the top diff specifically because it allowed me to map outside of my limits. The song provided a lot of different sounds and ways to map them due to its change in chorus in the second half, with the addition of weird synths for example. Its different, and i like it.

Part of me really enjoys mapping because i find it more fun than actually playing and grinding ranks. I get to listen to and enjoy my time with a song for however long it takes me to finish it, and finally sharing the final result after hours of hard work with others who would enjoy playing it makes my day. The other part of me loves getting feedback, which is what i think pushes me to map more. Whether it be negative or positive, i love getting feedback because it lets me know what i need to improve to get better as a mapper, and pushes me to make more and more maps people will enjoy.

free response (preferably 100~ words)
a1: I think this chart accomplishes a lot of the main ideas that I wanted during both mine and mint's parts. I generally think that the LN patterning I use in my parts have some sort of uniqueness to them, relatively following the music well but also feeling great to play. Everything just seems to kind of flow into itself, and I think my parts and mint's parts contrast nicely to reflect the music appropriately. I feel confident in pushing this chart for ranked, as I really feel like the collab captures the motifs of the song.

a2: I kinda already answered this in the previous post, but yeah I really enjoy being able to emulate the feeling of playing the song. A lot of things matter to me while charting, and I generally try evoke some sort of major feeling to occur with the patterning. I think my style in charting is definitely becoming a lot more clean, thanks to feedback from other charters and I'm pushing towards this goal.

mint's responses
short form responses
a1: emphasis on consistency and flow, generally heavier layering

free response (preferably 100~ words)
a1: first collab i did in a while that wasnt for a tournament, it has its own unique charm to it with each individual section imo, i spent a lot of time on the calm section which im really proud of, and the chorus accomplished exactly what i wanted it to as well with capturing the complexity of the music but keeping the patterns simple.

a2: i just love the satisfaction of having an idea in your head and being able to put it in a chart, its like finally finding the right words you were looking for to describe a wonderful feeling in your head. my music taste has been heavily influenced by rhythm games in the first place so mapping stuff that i enjoy is fairly easy in these parts. i really like being able to express a song's complexity and condense it into patterns that not only accurately demonstrate my holistic understanding of the music, but also flow well and play well

free response (preferably 100~ words)
comment on your map you want me to mod below. why do you like it?: this song's synth and background piano go all over the place so this map is an attempt to represent everything all of those listed sounds in a diff, which works pretty well imo. Also, I try to do it with and without the help of LN since some players might not like noodles like others, and I find the restriction of LN makes myself to find alternatives way to look at a map. Also mapping this song for less because of the meme and more because the song has a lot of potentials that the OG map didn't use them all.

I talk a lot about charting being an art form and all. tell me about your interest in charting -- be it in expressing the songs you love, or making patterns that play nicely. these are just examples, however, and you may choose to expand on this question however you like.: as far as I like getting artsy when creating maps, I also have to balance the fun factor of the map too because at the end of the day, it is a rhythm game. Of course, a map can be an experience and be "not fun", but beside that, if it is not fun, no one would really care about it. A good map imo represents a music well while also having that representation complimenting the chart itself.

Then, I dont think this is tech map bcuz LN usage is not heavy also the minijack thing is limited. but I think the map is still good and on calm part there using grace patter for piano to make the map the pattern much beauty and fun in playing.

I talk a lot about charting being an art form and all. tell me about your interest in charting -- be it in expressing the songs you love, or making patterns that play nicely. these are just examples, however, and you may choose to expand on this question however you like.:I want get feedback the map. Because this is maybe became PP map "if it can get ranked" so i want to get more opinion from community about the map, so the map can be play nice, comfy and fun. ppl maybe like unique stuff so maybe u can give some suggestion to make unique map on high SR.

comment on your map you want me to mod below. why do you like it?:
I could say stuff about how I like the map because of the effort/ideas I put into it and all that, but I feel like that for almost all my maps anyways so that's not particularly interesting. (and it's not hard to gather to figure out the concepts just by looking at the map)
honestly? I think it's mostly about it's history. This was the first map for which I actively sought mods, which ultimately shaped my views on mapping and the mapping community (partially, anyways).
I also tend to look back on my older maps with a bit of appreciation, like "oh some of this is kinda bad and I'd definitely map it differently now, but I can at least see what I was going for and the idea is sort of unique." So yeah, this + the above point led me to remapping the song and being happy with it.

I talk a lot about charting being an art form and all. tell me about your interest in charting -- be it in expressing the songs you love, or making patterns that play nicely. these are just examples, however, and you may choose to expand on this question however you like.:
I usually use math as an analogy for why I enjoy charting: in the most general sense, in math you might encounter a problem that you need to solve, and you have a toolbox of different theorems and axioms that you can use to try and solve the problem. And usually, there's some beautifully clever way of putting your "tools" together to solve the problem in some intuitive/visual way (this video is a good example of that). For charting, you can think of the "problem" as trying to represent the song as much as possible (although that's up for debate), and the "tools" as different mapping techniques. There's more to it, but that's the basic idea behind why I enjoy charting.

sorry for the long ass responses btw lol

I'm just trying making a map, yes I'm a new at this. I've many maps that i've been made, but no one of them makes me interest so i think this map is the most perfect one. This map has some of 4 keys pressed at same time (idk what it called) and 2 or more mini stream.

I love future bass and elctric one especially Creo's songs. Many map that i've been made like i said before. I usually make pattern that have a lot of stream so i decide to make a LN one. I just want to get a ranked map once or maybe in the future i will make a lot of map.

helo,,

i've added the newer rqs into the notion page, i will get to them by the end of this week-ish (17th october)

meanwhile, i've revamped the queue and changed some of the questions. here are the changes:

 1. changed some free-response questions based on responses & a bit of evaluation. eliminated short response
 2. changed rules on individual re-submissions; re-submissions of the same chart are still not allowed, but i hope it's obvious enough to most people so i won't be outlining it
 3. added some depth in selection of chart/expanded comments
keep postin owo

tell me about your map you want me to mod. why do you like it?: Unknown Autumn, why i'm like? because this map have long history before i submitted at 2018, at first i make this because little bit envy after playing Catch The Beat mode and said : "why this song didn't have a mania set?" and i do mapping with no guide Ranking Criteria, pattern, etc. just like free mapping and the result was veryyy bad when i submitted because no consistent the note was not neat. after that, i'm renew and renew pattern until got restrict at middle year of 2018. no motivation to mapping and quit for a while but sometime playing when bored, until i got unrestrict on may 2020. my motivation was high when i think this is the chance to renew again the map, i looking for mania mentorship from my nation only. i learn what is Ranking criteria how to make consistent map how to do HS etc. and i finished this one. i only hope this beatmap can be ranked on future.

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?: i don't see any Halozy or relax song on mania set now. i make the pattern was easy for among players. when i playing this mapset, of course i will trying first time and my friend or random player will do second and result almost of them has got high score. and i hope this one beatmap can be ranked.

Sorry for the form, but i renew this post with current form... i'm bad at english

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?:
i started mapping because there were so many songs/memes/dumbshit that i loved that weren't created for mania and i wanted to have maps for those
over time as i gained experience and discovered more maps i noticed that some maps weren't made to my liking and so i decided to remake the original versions, learning new patterns and how it plays out along the way, which is the case for this flamewall map

tell me about your map you want me to mod. why do you like it?:
I have a pretty logical style of charting that gives me trouble, so I'm really proud when I manage to express the music well while doing it in a style unique to me. I think I succeeded in this case and also managed to make it exceptionally difficult without affecting the quality.

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?:
Mapping is the only creative thing that I'm good at, and it merges elements of design in such a way that works well with my brain. There's always a right or wrong answer whereas with other forms of art it might not seem as clear. It's also just satisfying and I like playing my own creations.

P.S. Currently the balance in MAXIMUM is totally off but by the time you get to this (if you decide to look at it), that will probably be resolved.

Thanks!

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?: I just map this for fun, so i dont think "what pattern should i map?", I just add note, add note, add long note until done. except for last diff, i want to make LN map, and then i can do it to do that :3

tell me about your map you want me to mod. why do you like it?:

This was quite difficult to map due to a multitude of sounds contributing to the complexity and intricacy of this song.

I initially mapped this in an older difficulty before several people told me it was far too oversimplified. Almost entirely ignoring the piano at that point was, to be quite frank, a complete travesty, and it did not come remotely close to doing the song (and MuryokuP by extension) justice.

I fully believe that charting more complex music heavily increases the rate at which a mapper progresses. Therefore, I've left my old difficulty in for now so I can look at the difference between then and now. This is also the first time I have been able to clearly express my thought process while charting this, as I've posted a list of timestamps in the modding thread explaining myself. After all, reading minds isn't exactly easy.

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?:

I often had (and still have) ideas in my head about how to chart things while I play the game. These soon became urges and eventually I had enough time to at least try it out.

Simply mapping is pretty easy, but mapping to the best of my ability is a creative challenge that was difficult to appreciate until I actually tried it myself. This was something I wasn't willing to try until recently as I had taken an extended break from mapping. Even though I don't have many submitted beatmaps compared to most causing my motivation to appear questionable, I now at least strive for more than simply cursory representations of the songs I map.

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?
I like to chart for a few reasons. Some songs that I find really good does not have any maps for them, so I try to do what I can, (within my current mapping knowledge). I also map just for the pure fun and creativity of it. I like to experiment with layering and and mapping some sounds and instruments that do not get enough attention. I love hearing feedback from the community because that helps me grow to do better and hopefully be a really great mapper in the future!

tell me about your map you want me to mod. why do you like it?:
it's something heavily out of my comfort zone where there's a lot of grace LNs as well as differing LN lengths to express either the pitch or instrument that it's corresponding to. personally like this one because of how most of the patterns sort of just fell in place with the rigid structure I had in mind. I think it's something mildly fresh and new to the ranked section as well ( the other one that's close to this is Dreamwalker's Without Boundaries ). even though I have like other ranked charts, this presents something mildly different to the table which is why I'm pretty satisfied.

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?:
I chart to play the song that I enjoy, and in my way in particular. On top of my particular music taste, there's also the idea of configuring common patterns into different contexts to present something new - experimentation I should say - that keeps me going. I feel like there are endless possibilities for the utilization of patterns, and the constant experimentation of discovering the different perspectives is fascinating to me

tell me about your map you want me to mod. why do you like it?: At first, I just want to map this song as my LN experiment map, but later when someone says it's good so I decide to improve it and try to make it as fun as possible. This map has been fixed couple times since I submitted the map due to some mods, suggestion, and of course my own LN preference. I'm a new mapper though, but I'll try my best to get this one to ranked, no matter how long it takes.

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?
I start to map because there are a lot of songs I loved but they aren't exist in osu mania, and even they're exist, most of them doesn't catch my fancy so yea, so I start to create some maps, but most of them are meme / jokes map.
Well, as I start mapping I gained a lot of suggestions, tips, etc. from my osu mapper friends and from learning how to make a pattern. Once I realized that I can make a good LN pattern (well, at least not bad), I decided to map Quaoar because Quaoar is by far my most favourite song (Until now somehow) and I don't like the ranked one. As I map the song for a long time, I end up being a LN mapper and I think I'll become a weird Tech-LN, Concept LN mapper in the future. Lastly, since I'm a new mapper, I'll do my best.

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?: Although this is my 3rd map for ranked, I want try to map all diffs and hs by myself without GDs (Other maps of mine all has GDs :lol). That may be a challenge. And I also map this with LN because I want to encourage myself to map with challenging LN (Maybe also easy for top players. XD).

Hi I want to push this map for ranked so that I can improve my mapping style, if it's bad for ranked I can just improve from this map to future mapsets.

tell me about your map you want me to mod. why do you like it?:
Arcaea song (in the memory archive). This is to see which type of SVs are rankable and see how the process of ranking goes and as mentioned before, to push for ranked. I like this because I usually like rhythm game genre songs (basically electronic/hardcore etc.) and this song is a perfect example of what types of songs I like.

what aspects of charting -- the music you love, the gameplay, and the creative control you have, etc. -- drive you to map? in other words, why do you map/chart?:
As mentioned before, I like rhythm game genre music and also I usually would aim for songs that are usually not mapped (basically hidden gems in a way). I map because it gets me to know more about the insight of beatmaps and also I get to contribute to the community by giving ranked maps.

Right now writing this req, I do not have a lot of hope for this map since there was a few problems with it but if you could help me out by modding, it would be appreciated.

Thank you so much!
