Hi. Since Osu! is always evolving and the beatmap database is always growing larger and larger, I find myself doing one thing over and over again and I think I might not be the only one.
Right now, Osu! is pretty much infested with anime-themed maps, while other songs are pretty scarce in comparison, even if they come from really popular artist. I often enter that artist's name/band's name every time each, lets say, month, to see, if someone already mapped some songs and they made it ranked. This usually takes a lot of time and I might forget a lot of such artists, so here's my idea:
Add a waitlist.
Waitlist works pretty much the same as "check for new posts" on forums. You enter some criteria for songs you're waiting for - lets say, "System of a Down" and "Ranked". Site remembers the last time you checked for new maps, so every time you check your waitlist, it presents you with all the songs that were released and match your criteria since the last time you did it. Those songs stay there for as long as you don't clean them. You can either select maps one by one, deleting them from the list, or just click "Clear all", just like you would do on the forums.
I think that would help a lot when waiting for particular artists to show up on the list of ranked songs and is, quite frankly, pretty easy to add.
And after that
Make the waitlist stats available to everyone
Add a list of which songs are the most waited for, with how many people are waiting for each keyword.
Not only that, but make those people visible for one another. Lets say I'm waiting for Nujabes to pop out in Osu and I see there's 100 more people waiting for it as well and I can go and see who waiting for these songs as well. Of course, there would be an option to keep your anonymity if you want.
This is not only a great tool for mappers to see which songs are trending, but also helps people socialize.
Now, I might be going to far here... but I actually think there could even be a way to match yourself with people with similar waitlists. If you want. But if you don't like this idea, it's not the part of the rest of these ideas. The most important part here is the waitlist.
