Hello, Osu community!
What I have hear is a revolutionary skin that I can guarantee will change the way you've ever thought of Osu.
What makes this skin so brilliant?
I'm glad you asked: This skin uses hit SQUARES instead of hit CIRCLES!!!

Now, this may seem ridiculous to you closed minded scrubbies. Squares in a circle based clicking game? Don't be ridiculous!
But if you just give it a shot, I can guarantee you won't be dissapointed!

Wow, this is awesome!!
I was expecting it to be pretty weak because I wasn't sure how one would make the concept work, but honestly this worked out way too well.

Truly revolutionary! The 1/4pi extra surface area really helps out on those harder maps. Thanks for the upload :D

Edit: My eyes aren't liking the... sharpness of stuff. The rounded circles are more preferable :p

I kind of like the cursor for some reason I am not aware of myself.

It would have been better if the hit squares had it's edges more "smoothed out". And the bad thing is that it's hard to see short sliders because the square totally covers it. :(

Eh. I know I have a skin with an odd shape also but... Osu has this thing called hitboxes... actually all games do. The hitbox for the osu is inside the circle so like this:


a b and c are where your square "mod" comes in. Those areas after the square are where you make a slip-up to lose a combo or miss. Thus, making it even harder to play the game because you don't know whether your on point or not. It will actually decrease your score too.

How do I know this? I shouldn't be bringing this guy down. I know nothing. Is what your probably saying right now.
The reason I know is because I've tried it and now your thinking, well why not make the squares smaller inside the circle?
This restricts player movement. They might be good at accuracy but they don't know whether they can hit on the outside or not thus making it harder for jumps or other wacky maneuvers, making this skin a very non-"pro" newbie user practice skin.

You see, I used octagons as a way to be as close to a circle as possible without deviating from the way people play. It will make it harder for people using this to go back to circles as they advanced. Octagons are just design as it is very close to the circles size.

So, if you want to make a revolutionary skin try something different. Squares will just make you a worse player overall.

Let's look at my diagram again.


Pretend I'm doing a crazy stream. Me being a person who likes to take shortcuts will try to use the sides of the squaremod thus getting 50s misses or slip-ups(losing combo). Why is this exactly?

Well I may be a bit wrong but the osu hitcircle doesn't just have ONE hitbox. It has many around the edges and outer border.
Each hitbox gives you a different accuracy or score and movement with your mouse or tablet in certain areas (typically around the outer hitboxes will cause sip-ups.

Now, I'm not hating on you because I did the same thing. Juts trying to inform someone else of my discoveries. I've done things with hitboxes before so I know this.

Any questions. Just ask me. Maybe... hexagons? Or a new idea? Sorry.

I think you really should read it because the things in there aren't hating on the idea but the fact of how it can't be put to use.

EDIT:
Also about the skin:
Design is all to nice on the hitsquares.
The approach circle seems a bit small and some of these textures don't look like they were created by you but eh.
Why I say that? They don't go with the skin, like the health meter looks like I've seen it from another skin.

Comboburst is a bit big and annoying. eh

Edit the textures a bit and change the comboburst especially the comboburst noise and ask for permission to use peoples items and then I'll give an actual critique of sorts. Take note I'm egtting most of these from my experience in making a skin. Juts trying to help.

Those reverses are a bit eugh and you should smooth your lines so they don;'t have white around them. (had this in mine too)

i did read it already... (i just put "tl;dr" to save space..)

and squares help you, not to murder you. squares are accuracy challengers... all you have to do is accept or reject the square's challenge.
(@creator_of_this_skin: include a square approach circle to fit with this...)

Yeah dude, mosty of these textures are from someone elses skin.... I don't remember the name.. I've seen it though. > _>

Person below me gets it.
The main goal was to help you even a commenter supposedly said it helped, now do they still use this skin and did they play a song they already knew really well with it? The skin kills accuracy. Plenty of us have seen and tried square skins. I even had one myself at first till I scrapped it after realizing how bad it was for accuracy and everything.

Squares murdered my accuracy :p Not entirely sure if it's because I'm just used to the roundedness of circles, or not a fan of the square approach circles though.

:) @GrimOfCrazy your logic is pretty good and im sure most people would assume that at first but i think i'm a bit smarter than you and i have worked it out and it works out that my squares are perfectly functional because:

circle:
piR^2 = area of circle
square:
(2R)^2 = ara of square

now i see what you mean that circles have bigger area because 3.14 (pi) is larger than 2
this is where u stoped and let the numbers play their tricks but if you think a step further you:

squares have a larger radius because when you measure from the center out squares have corners which making the radius larger therefore a greate overall area.

there fore the hitboxes ( ;) ) are bigger than they would be with circle making it easier to do it!

yes i sampled a bit because i neaded inspiration but i made sure they were changed beyond recognition and they have a lot of diffrences so anybody who claims they look similar is probbly jelous but thats o.k. with fame comes haters i guess

circles have uniform radius/radii while squares increases it's radius as it goes to the corners and returns to it's original radius as it reaches the other side.
(for simple math lovers: measurement of the half of the square increases and back to it's original measurement)

Please don't say what I assumed because you got it wrong. You guys don't really need math for this it's simple stuff. The squares corners go into the slip hitbox. nuff said. the squares are bigger then the circles radius. Don't koin into something when the last word was already said dude. It makes you sound dumb because you failed to read what I said. Don't assume things because it makes... I think we all know where that's going. kk

Consider to ask an allowance to use other's skin element because you make it on public.
All I know that this skin is way similar with Frizz's skin.
Also neater stuffs please, like mods, comboburst (I never use it btw), score, etc.
Create stuffs by yourself improves the skin quality. Good luck! :D
