What do people use to play at a high level?

This seems like the type of game that will quickly grab my interest, seeing as I've already logged several hours. I want to get better though!

I currently own a Wacom Bamboo Capture. How is this? Do I use my hands or the pen? I also have a steel series sensei and fairly good mouse speed and accuracy (2 years of Sc2, 3 years of LoL, various FPS, etc.)

As you can tell, I'm a beginner, so I would appreciate it if I was pointed in the correct direction. Thanks! <3

Pick whatever you like to play with and find enjoyable to you. Most top players are tablet+keyboard players, but there are very skilled mouse+keyboard, and even mouse only players. It is all about what you enjoy doing, because if you don't enjoy a game, why play it? Some people hate tablet, some people hate keyboards, some people can't stand using a mouse. Bamboo tablet is perfectly fine for osu, and you mouse is good quality.

FOR TABLET: You are going to want to use the pen 100%. Some people hover the pen just above the surface, some people touch the surface with the pen. Either way is fine, and again do what you like best. Another thing you want to address is your tablet area. This is another preference thing. People use all different sizes, from the tiny box to full region. I use full on mine, but it is not bad to make a smaller region on your tablet. I would advise against making it too small, though. Pick something that feels comfortable and stick to it. Don't change it up a whole bunch, because this game is about consistency. You can change it in your preferences panel for your tablet.

FOR MOUSE: Don't use too high of DPI. You are going to have a hard time trying to control something crazy like 2000DPI, so pick a lower setting. Your mouse is good quality, so it is very possible to play at a high level with your mouse. Don't feel pressured into playing tablet if you don't want to.

I would like to once again state that you should play the game in the way you find most enjoyable. Keep at it, don't make excuses, and try your best to get better. It's just you and the game. Don't look to blame your equipment for any shortcomings, and always look to yourself and how you can use what you have better. I see a lot of beginners jump on the bandwagon of "well if I had tablet", or "if I had this keyboard", and not looking at themselves.

Enjoy your stay at osu! and go play some maps! Keep pushing and remember to set goals if you want to get better!

wat. I use 3500 dpi and my cursor speed is SLOW compared to some people I know. Those people don't play osu!, but I can barely even open a web browser on their computers because it's so fast.

There isn't any specific hardware to play with, people use in majority what they could get their hands on and with what they find the most comfortable for them. High-level players can be mouse only, mouse+kb or tablet players without any differences in the gameplay... It all depends on your preferences.

Before getting any specific hardware, I strongly recommand you to play a lot more and to get better (like being able to pass insane maps). This will take a few weeks or months depending on your level. When you are a beginner, it doesn't matter whether you use a good or a standard mouse, really.

That being said, the most common tools among players who buy a kb/tablet specifically for osu! is the Razer Blackwidow and the Bamboo Pen. I didn't notice any trends for a specific mouse (Logitech G5 maybe?). But again, getting a good kb or a tablet won't make you an über pro player. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the game.

Using 3500 on my abyssus kills my hand, and I cannot play for more than 5 minutes before feeling sharp pains. The movements were just too small for me, so I used 1800 and turned sensitivity down. I've had major wrist problems before, and it was due to playing too much with high sensitivity/dpi, so that is probably why I can't now. Wish I hadn't played at 3500DPI for so long before when I played sc2, because it tore my wrist up.

Everyone is different. Some people can stand those small movements (Like Cyclone) and some people can't.

The ideal that mouse was the most underplayed at high rankings and the hardest to learn has been brought down ever since players like Kriers, Silvia, and even Cookiezi have played high ranked as mouse.

Overall everything works it's just what you prefer to use and what feels comfortable to you.

Ideally, if you were to play tablet, you would want something close to full area, if not full area itself. And yeah, usually you should hover with pen.

I use 450 dpi, that's totally fine for me.
It all depends on the player, I guess. But using lower dpi makes more sense IMO, as it provides higher cursor precision.

Full area also requires a larger movement span which creates more room for uncertainties

Think it just depends on skill. I have a lot of cheap & outdated stuff on my computer, & I still manage to play sufficiently.
