Can you get demoted after you played the beatmap?

I thought as long as you keep playing the beatmaps, there is no reason you can get demoted. But today I fullcomboed 3.8 star map and I got demoted like 300. I thought it was +300 but it was -300. Is this a natural happen or the counting system is doing weird things.

A lot of people are constantly playing and the rankings are shifting respectively.
You didn't get demoted, other players just climbed up the ranks faster than you.

while you sleep, or idle, many other people play and set scores, climbing up the ladders and leaving you behind. you are not getting "demoted" or "penalized", it's just that your rank is getting updated only when you set a score. and, with the update, it becomes evident that, while you were inactive, 300 people have got their overall rank better than you had.

Nobody really knows when the body dies. After brain death, and then organ failure, and all the electricity's gone, a rotting corpse still feeds the world, mother's diesel for the biological engine of life. Who knows where the internet will go, or for how long, or in what strange aeons it will return? Who can say if ours was even the first?
