press the T key to the downbeat (or just beat) of the music, the first press is really important cuz it will determine the offset as closest as possible (but you can change it if it sounds off to you), the rest of them is just trial and error.
Also: avoid songs that has inconsistent bpm, especially when you've just started mapping since it's a pain even with experienced ones.
