i can't seem to figure out how to add images/sprites, whatever you want to call them, without adding them to all the difficulties of the beatmap, can someone tell me how to add images to only one difficulty?

you have to edit the .osu file of the specific difficulty instead of editing the .osk file of the entire beatmap. hope this helped!

i get what your saying, but i don't know what to edit in the file
Actually, you can do it right in the editor, cuz it only affects one difficulty (one .osu file for one diff), when you create another difficulty, the background in the diff you create from will be used so don't worry.
to add on to what Uraomote Error said, just open the diff you want to change the background for and drop the downloaded image into the editor. there should be a prompt asking you if you want to select this image as the background. click yes
