I used to be really into these, but I haven't been reading or watching much since early 2017. Lately I've been feeling this itch to get back into it. do you have any recommendations?

I'd really recommend Miyako! I think there isn't an anime of it yet
EDIT: the manga doesn't have an english translation sorry

I really recommend Koi to Uso and Tsuki ga Kirei.
Koi to Uso is more of a RomCom-ish kind of series with more joking around tha TGK, but the character development is still amazing, even though the anime is only 12 episodes, which is a bummer.
Tsuki ga Kirei is a more serious romance anime that i really enjoyed despite dropping it the first time around. The art style is quite different and imo the only downside is the over-use of 3d for background crowds in the streets, which there are a lot of.
Overall they are both very solid anime that i ended up binging in a few days, very enjoyable.

I recommend Clannad (+ After Story), Kanon, Air and Angel Beats. All series have a very enjoyable story, nice characters, nice humor and especially sad emotional scenes. In all cases, romance plays a secondary role, but I still strongly recommend it.
I also recommend the films Wolf Children, A Silent Voice, Your Name, The Light of a Firefly Forest and I want to eat your pancreas, in which the romance is more visible. Prepare napkins.
And finally Your Lie in April, Romeo x Juliet and Nana. Your Lie in April is a great show with romantic elements that you will surely love when you like classical music. Romeo x Juliet is a classic story that we all know well, but in this version some things are altered. It's nice, strong and emotional. Nana is a very realistic story intended for women - it shows what they are going through in their lives (breakups, relationships, pregnancy, love, etc.) in a very good way. It also has a great soundtrack.

Currently I'm watching Kaguya-sama: Love is War, show with a very interesting story, nice characters, great dialogues and original ideas. It's basically a mix of Toradora and Death Note, which may sound impossible, but it really works. Check it out.

(edit: okay, I didn't notice that you are looking for anime from recent years, but never mind. :D If you didn't seen them before, definitely watch them.)
