You can't "torrent" Valve Games, because they are running via Steam.

Pretty sure there are ways around Steam. As they say, if it's on the internet, there is usually a way to pirate it.

As for DOTA2:I'm not much of a DOTA fan I guess. Hopefully Valve does well with it though, and somehow gets me hooked.

I guess there aren't, as it will be running on its own server, so you will need a serial key. Just like in HoN...

Before I even describe DotA, I just want to point out that this might not really a Valve game like you know them. It might end up being some side project like AlienSwarm, but it might also become an integral part of Valve like Portal.

They haven't really said that much, but if it actually is a remake of DotA, and it does become an integral part of Valve, then for the first time, valve will have a non-fps game. I just checked their wiki page and apparently Dota 2 is just another side project.

So yea, the camera view is just like any other RTS game. There are two teams of usually 5 players each IIRC.
Each person chooses a hero. Each team is in an opposite corner of the map and you pretty much have to take over the opponents base. There are AI mobs spawning and as you kill them, you gain XP and gold. With those, you unlock new powers and buy new items.

Note that there are over a hundred heroes, with a different skill set each, then hundreds of items to modify them even more.
This is pretty much the main reason I never got into DotA. To be really good at it, you need to pretty much know all the heroes and items by heart.

The best analogy I can give is, I don't know if you've played WC3 or any RTS, but imagine playing a 5v5 RTS game, but instead of building bases, you just control a single guy that you level up and upgrade.

Now, if instead of doing an exact fucking ripoff (aka sequel) of a game like blizzard does, they actually went and modified it by making it first person, they could've come out with something new and original, but ofcourse all the DotA fanboys would've been butthurt.

For any singleplayer game, you'd be right, but for multi-player games, there never are any solutions, unless they are completely unprotected (like Borderlands for example). Sometimes, they're able to redirect it to their own custom servers, but there never is a way that allows you to play on official protected servers.

Since DotA is mainly a multiplayer game (playing it with bots is just like playing counter-strike with bots, it's retarded), the only thing you could probably do is play it with your friends over lan on a cracked version.

DotA AI is still shit. Shit shit shit. I think you'd know why.
I agree with Ph0X, but unless you want to manipulate LAN and play online (let Garena for example) it's possible using a cracked version. But I fairly doubt DOTA2 will enter their systems though.

Actually, the fact that it's a Source game on Steam pretty much confirms that there will be a multiplayer crack not long after release.
Valve tend to be fairly open about the inner-workings of their games. Any Steam game can be made nonsteam by simply extracting some files. If it uses the current Source server system it'll be supported by Setti's alternative masterserver, which only requires the user to overwrite a text file. If it doesn't, there's plenty of other ways, such as undead patch and lan exploits.

I don't really see anything to be excited about in this game yet, it's just the same DotA AllStars everyone've been playing for years with a different engine and model set (just like HoN was in beginning).

I'm interested in the complete list of bonus features this will have compared to original and if it'll be a good reason to purchase it.

Oh right, normal attacks damage is now fixed :D

Na`Vi played really well, they deserved to win imo.
Game 2 of EHOME vs Na`Vi was nice. (the one EH won)

Scythe.SG was lacking in their loser bracket final against EH as compared to their previous games.

Axe is not that hard to counter during laning phase and needs a lot of positioning work to do any damage in a teamfight.

His finisher is great, yes, but he wasn't needed in any of the picks I've seen during matches.

Considering he needs to waste a slot and 2k gold for a blink dagger to be a good initiator while other heroes got innate initiating abilities, no wonder he wasn't picked.

The one thing that keeps me from liking these kind of games is the community. You need to be an expert in the game if you don't want to be verbally abused by your team. Didn't Dota2 fixed this somewhat with matchmaking and tutorials?

There's matchmaking, there will be tutorials, and there isn't a hard recording on stats that can be viewed by other players (as far as I know, so less abuse that way). But have no mistake, the community is still shit, everyone is still an asshole. It's best to start out with friends, you get used to it.

EDIT: thought I should put this in early: I used my invites already.

I wish I could answer that with any clue as to what I was actually talking about.
It won't pick up players when there is a more than large enough pool of players in matchmaking at any given moment.

None. Players appear and disappear, but over the span of 30 min and staying at about 4 players... I don't think so.

i wanted a beta so bad like a month ago ..



but after seeing the international (dota 2) and WDC (dota 1) it's reaaally clear that dota1 it's way better atleast till now than dota 2 .. the second one needs to get all the heroes to be as awesome as dota 1 is right now, so i guess i can wait for the release of it :p.

The community can get pretty garbage at sometimes, the important thing is to not get sucked into it. At this point i see greifing/flaming as a part of the game. I know it's ridiculous and can get frustrating sometimes, but what you have to do is just ignore it and get on with the next game. There is nothing you can do about it, and if you take part of it, then you're just as much of a retard as they are.

This is still in beta though, hopefully it will get better when a solid matchmaking system gets implemented.

But you can do something against that ... even though it only works for the own team.

Yeah flaming might be a part of the game, but i still hate it if you play with some newbies and they get attacked ...
