How to edit the selection menu?

I'm new to skinning :( How to put a background behind the title of a song? I can't seem to do so...

Like, behind those texts? Every time I put an image it overlaps the text so I can't see the song's details and stuff. Any tips? Thank you.

You use 2 files for that. First being selection-mode (yes, the same one used as a button on the bottom part), which is supposed to be a solid black color, giving shape to the top part. Don't make it high enough to cover the text, or simply look how it's done in other skins. Second is mode-{x}-small, which is the actual "fill" used to make the top part colored.

Fun fact: You aren't actually putting the background behind the text, but rather on top of it. The additive blend mode on mode-{x}-small simply lets the text be visible through it.
