Round 45 : Star Formations

Nominated by Xgor. Basically, a pattern of hitcircles (the last one can be a slider) placed in a way such that the the followpoints formed by them form a star. It is not limited to 5/6 pointed stars.

Map(s) that use this technique
DJ Mars - Lemon Tree mapped by MetalMario201
Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Wizards In Winter mapped by Echo
IOSYS - Poinsettia mapped by Aakiha

I like this pattern. It's just great when it's not randomly placed.

Both of those examples are 1 worthy due to their horrible innacuracy, but these are, when perfect, incredibly sexy

I couldn't find any ranked examples that aren't mine - I guess I'm just mega nazi. They are easier to make now we have scale by though, so I expect more to come
Sure

Yeah, 5 sides of star formation should be equal in length.
Anyway I like it.
Gonzvlo
I like them a lot, I've used them on many maps.

5/5
Lilac
Sure, why not?

i love these. i think shinxyn uses jumps similar to this but im not sure if that constitutes a star pattern. in any case, i love these patterns, insta-5
TKiller
a pain to click when they are placed like a circle, in other cases they are mostly fine
maay
Same. I prefer them when the followpoints themselves form a star
RandomJibberish
And that's what this technique is? If it just goes round in a circle it's a flower combo
TKiller
Not obvious enough names I guess.
Natteke
Lovin' it and using it a lot. Also best map with this pattern: http://osu.ppy.sh/s/14540 Alazy diff

Fucking Poinsettia, hate them when they are awfully used but otherwise they're awesome.

You're lucky the AR was too high for me to notice before!

4 if you know how to use them, they look and play great. They suck on Sushi's maps though (and Poinsettia).
FireballFlame
Most awesome in Poinsettia, where they are basically the theme of the map.
ShaggoN
Yup. I love it :D
Ofc when you have to play it with 2 fingers it's getting tough.
Kurowolfe
I really like them too, and will include them in my maps where possible.
But yeah, if poorly placed, this one really sucks DX

Nobody hates this.

I hope so; using them myself in my current pending maps (may i include some commercial? :D )

Scorpiour
that's excellent!!
Poinsettia is incredible! it shocked me when i first played.

When they're used in the middle of complicated patterns and they're clearly forced, they're annoying. They're nice, but I get the impression that they're used because the mapper can't think of anything more imaginative. It's even worse when a star blatantly doesn't fit the theme of the track and/or the map. For example, if the map's more based around smooth shapes and curves (i.e. few polygons), it feels silly to see a star out of nowhere.

'Poinsettia' is obviously an acceptable use of star formations, because Sanae is a star-spamming bitch (especially in Soku). It's a shame that the map's pretty obnoxious in parts.
Marifune-kun
its good as long the range is not too far 4/5

I like them, usually they're a bit jumpy which is fine and it makes me pay closer attention to the order they appear. They generally look very nice.

Really good technique, it can be used in almost any parts of a song (for both jumps or non-jumps!). Only problem for me is how to continue mapping after this formation, without making it look too awkward :|
