First beatmap and very much a WIP. Any feedback is welcome!

Spacing seems comfortable at this point. Placement of notes though, I don't have a method to go with that feels comfortable, so it's just based on automatic snap distance right now...
Working on making the map less "angular". Curving sliders/streams.
Added background image -> May eventually add the video clip.

Cleaned up most sliders, map definitely feels less sharp, but also feels like it rotates clockwise a lot. May revisit this.
Removed the break at the beginning, added longer sliders.
Tweaking the "staircase" effect at around 1:54 to 2:01.
Fixed a problem with slider length at 00:52:520

Considering ending the song here.
Cleaned up a lot of my clockwise rotation habit, but probably need to smooth out other note placement.
Offset adjustment to 12ms.

Adjusted the long stream near the end to have increasing spacing for flavor.

Made a significant number of NC tweaks via -Bumblebee-'s suggestions. Minor modifications to Normal and Insane difficulties.

Making progress on Hard difficulty - 18.4%. This one feels like the hardest to map...
Insane edits -> Adjustments and stacking of notes, cleaning of some rotations, patterns made smoother. A lot more stacking improvements. Edited volume of hit sounds to be less loud while not in Kiai sections.

Lots of very WIP in changes from comments below. This includes some changes to slider velocity, some big adjustments to one of the chains. I understand much of this still needs to be adjusted to some 1/6ths though.

Hello, just trying to put in some of my input, hope you don't mind my critique, and hey, it's not bad at all for a first shot

Some things I noticed

Lensko:
00:16:191 (4,5) - Change this to a short slider, the flow is really hard to follow without it
00:19:941 (1,2) - Again here
00:23:691 (1,2) - Again
00:31:191 (1,2) - Again, you get the idea
00:17:480 (1,2,3) - I feel like you could replace some of these triplets with triple sliders, just personal preference
00:43:261 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) - I would personally stagger some of these sliders, or find a way that would tie into the beat to reduce the large chain of sliders


Obviously there is more work to be done, but I want to leave some meat on the bone for others to help with, I would recommend you keep trying to figure out what note patterns flow well together, I like the beat you have in the song, but not so much the placement.

00:53:067 - Definitely feels uncomfortable, since the beat picks up but the slider don't change
04:26:585 - Just generally feels like it shouldn't go any farther here

That's as much as I could find. First time modding for a first time mapper :P

Just noting that these changes were accepted, and mostly implemented, but the map has been iterated on considerably since this mod! I'm just getting in the habit of responding.

These too were accepted and changed at the time, and the map has been iterated on extensively since.

Disclaimer: I'm not qualified to comment on high level mapping concepts, so I won't talk about them.
General items
  1. The audio needs to be compressed more. Keep it at or below 192 kbps.
  2. The audio cut is very nice. I like it.
  3. This specific song has rhythms that aren't straight 8ths or 16ths. This makes mapping at least interesting if not difficult. See the [insane] box below for more details on 1/6th timing snaps. (musically the song's time signature is common time with many triplets.)
  4. Be sure the diff spread is correct. I have no idea what the rules are anymore.
Normal
  1. Could slider velocity be reduced? it may be slightly harder than it needs to be for a normal map. Something less than 2 should do fine because right now it's at the same speed as the insane diff.
  2. 01:31:887 - change to inherited timing point.
  3. 02:01:887 - change to inherited timing point
  4. 00:17:824 (7,8,9) - i'd prefer these if you moved them 1 beat over so they started on 00:18:059 - . I just think the three notes should land on that specific melody in the song. or maybe you could put a note specifically 00:18:527 - instead of moving the three notes over. This happens in other places too: 00:25:324 (7,8,9,10) - . But here: 00:33:059 (8,9,10,11) - it's good. i like it like this.
  5. 01:06:106 (1,2,3) - why is there this gigantic gap? that strikes me as very strange and i lose sight of what you're mapping to, in this location.
  6. 01:39:855 (1) - this slider could start on 01:39:387 - like 02:09:387 (1) - .
Hard
  1. Not done yet lol.
Insane
  1. Throughout the whole song, there are no slider velocity changes. This is kind of strange for an insane difficulty map.
  2. 00:45:012 - so for example, here you could start to incrementally ramp up slider velocity. 00:52:512 - you could also start to pick up the pace here
  3. 01:03:059 (6) - if the slider velocity was faster, this slider could be longer and the jumps in that specific combo would look more... proportional. Cause the impression it's making on me currently is that the sliders behave more like circles instead of sliders. They don't really require the user to follow the slider path from beginning to end so it doesn't take full advantage of what a slider can do, which is to direct non-straightforward cursor movement.
  4. 01:06:106 (1,2) - these sliders don't fit the song perfectly. yes they are good approximations but if you play the song at 25% speed and listen to these two sliders, you can tell they are kind of off from the song. This is because parts of the song that have this rhythm should be mapped in 1/6ths beat snap divisors, not 1/4ths. Upon changing the beat snap divisor to 1/6, extend the first slider so the slider finishes on 01:06:262 - . Extend the second slider until the end lands on 01:06:496 - . Then play at 25% and hear the difference. This applies to 01:07:629 (1,2,3,4) - and pretty much everywhere else throughout the song. Unfortunately this may mean you have to resnap timing wise, many things. MANY THINGS. sorry. last example: 01:09:856 (1,2,3,4,5) - this needs to be resnapped to 1/6ths.
  5. 01:54:856 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) - ok this is a little bit too crazy for me. there are six notes between the first and second sliders: 01:55:793 (4,5,6,7,8,9) - , another 6 notes between the second and third sliders: 01:57:199 (1,2,3,4,5,6) - , FIVE notes between the third and fourth sliders: 01:58:606 (8,9,10,11,12) - , and EIGHT notes between the fourth and fifth sliders: 01:59:895 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) - . why can't they all be the same number? it becomes a pain to play if it's not regular intervals. but at least the sliders are consistent.
  6. 02:15:129 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) - this pattern is ok but i feel like you could do something more interesting with it.
  7. Generally all the other patterns in this map are fine.

most of this mod will be pointers and general stuff such as techniques to base a style around. also ill only mod insane because higher difficulties is where most expression happens in difficulties in mapsets

Insane
HP 7.2 is very high for 3.8*, consider standard HP 6.
now in the editor

first thing, press Ctrl A. notice that the bottom right corner of your map is left mostly unused. note that this is a bad thing (great mappers such as monstrata in TV sized maps sometimes dont fill the entire portion of the mapping space), but it lets you know how much space you're limiting yourself to. (more used mapping space = more expressed room)

Lensko is bomb as fuck, he can make cool melody lines out of strange rhythms. with that said, its understandable why this would be hard to map to. it might help to play portions of the song in 25% / 50% to hear the rhythm better (if you need to, delete parts of the song to hear the music and put it back to fix)
a good example of where this could come in handy is 00:17:356 - and 00:17:824 - 00:17:824 -
since you mapped to the synth pad, keep the rhythm consistent with the synth. the times linked above are dropped parts of the rhythm and even though this is a 3.8* song, it's still very hard to pick up on a dropped / inconsistent rhythm.
00:59:660 - 00:59:777 - dropped rhythm
01:00:129 (1) - starting sliders on blue ticks are very frowned upon, a hit circle on 01:00:129 - and turning 01:00:246 - into a repeat slider would be both more readable and accurate to the rhythm of the song
01:03:879 (1) - blue tick slider, replace with note and follow with sliders or repeat sliders
01:07:629 (1) - ^ and instances such as this
01:09:856 (1,2,3,4,5) - inconsistent rhythm with 01:06:106 (1,2,3) - (note that this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in some cases it can be very jarring for the player to adapt to difficult or strange alterations of the same rhythm. that's not the case in this instance, im just pointing it out anyway C:)
01:06:106 (1,2,3) - very hard to read since the rhythm between the sliders are all inconsistent. 2 hitnotes, 6 hitnotes, 6 hitnotes, 5 hitnotes, 8 hitnotes, all the meanwhile it's difficult to understand why the sliders were placed on the rhythms they're placed it does not sound like the song is emphasizing those parts in particular

i said nothing about aesthetics in this mod, since rhythm always comes first but its not as if the map was ugly
01:06:106 (1,2,3) - a very appealing curve, good job keeping the curved flow broken up through 3 objects
01:15:129 (1,2,3,4) - symmetry
01:17:356 (1,2,3) - you probably didn't mean for this to happen but you came very close to a 60/60/60 triangle
however, its still important to fix rhythm before aesthetics.

When you first introduced me to the map there were minor issues. As of now (a few weeks later) there has been so much improvement and everything seems to be going well. keep working and nice job ~~
