SAO isn't that bad, it's just if someone recommends it or says it's a good romance or it's original. A giant red flag.
Raiken-
Alfheim Arc kinda weird.

Sell them to me then.
Why should I prioritise watching these shows? What makes them good? Just tossing them out won't convince anyone.

I just finished watching Steins Gate, loved it. I also love Madoka Magica and most animes with a depressing/sad storyline. Any other series that I should watch then cry from?

Most will tell you to try out:
-Angel Beats
-Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
-Clannad
-Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
The basic stuff everyone should have already seen.
I'll add on:
-Wolf's Rain
-Princess Tutu
-Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
-Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora

Robotics Notes. Play/read the Chaos;Head visual novel if you can.
Depressing/sad storyline hmm.. Welcome to the NHK talks about some serious topics of life, sometimes while being funny and sometimes while being serious. I found Gunslinger Girl sad. Maybe you would like a movie such as Hotarubi no Mori e?

Why the visual novel when I can just watch the anime?

I wish more people came back and said what recommendations they liked. It would help to get some feedback.

It's not like they'd return the favour and give me a recommendation if I asked :/

Do you have a picture?
Can you estimate the age of the series?

Stuck in a slump at the moment and have no idea what to watch anymore.
Anyone have an suggestions for something along the lines of:

Bokura Wa Minna Kawaisou
Barakamon
Bakuman
Nagi No Asukara

Good slice of life anime - (Romance pref, but not necessary)

Either that or something like:

Shokugeki no Soma
Mondaiji-Tachi
No Game, No life
Dungeon ni deai wo motomeru
Baby Steps
Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica

Where the main character is either OP or starts off useless/average then becomes OP.

If I was being really picky - Would be preferable if it weren't too old or y'know, looks like the graphics were designed by an 7 year old using paint shop pro.

http://myanimelist.net/animelist/iAshy - Link to myanimelist if it helps.

Don't ever pick a design that displays the images by default, otherwise it takes forever to scoll down with any decent length list.

I've made my tastes pretty apparent across the forums and I am open to pretty much anything.

Who am I kidding no-one recommends anything here

I sincerely thank you... Too bad it only had 4 episodes worth of content

No problem, I wish more people left feedback

http://myanimelist.net/anime/1520/Black_Jack
A mystery sort of series except with a doctor. These OVAs feature the best episodes, Young Black Jack starts next season too. Some episodes lead into supernatural solutions which is a huge letdown but that is in the minority.

http://myanimelist.net/anime/10798/UN-GO
Pretty hit and miss but another 'super detective' style series

http://myanimelist.net/anime/8915/Dantalian_no_Shoka
Similar atmosphere to GOSICK, interesting scenario but I found it pretty disappointing

Looking for a mecha anime. I tend to like flashier looking ones. Favourites include Gundam 00, Valvrave the Liberator and Gundam SEED/Destiny. English dub would be nice but not necessary.
Heard Knights of Sidonia's good - anyone seen it? Outside of that, any recommendations?

Thanks!
Navizel
Bokurano? Might not be that kind of mecha you're looking for.
Green Platinum
Isn't Macross generally flashier than Gundam?

No mention of Guren Lagann or Full Metal Panic?
Kanazuki no Miko for the yuri and lols
Navizel
Usually I tend to not recommend popular ones because chances are people have seen it already.

I watched Macross Frontier if that's what you were referring to - I didn't have a huge problem with it.
Full Metal Panic was extremely boring to me.

I find mecha shows to be super boring in general.
For FMP if you remove the mechs you get Fumoffu which is still one of the funniest animes to date.

I know a few people that can't stand mecha either. So to each their own. ;)

Still taking suggestions if anyone has anymore.
Green Platinum
I find mach shows to be especially shallow. Fixated on metal robot fighting fanservice than capturing any themes or ideas. And then it falls into the trappings of most fight scenes where it becomes shooting flashy attacks at the opponent till the plot demands a side to lose.

Build Fighters I considered. Evangelion I'm not really interested in.

I'd recommend Evangelion just on cultural importance, I don't think it is as amazing as people say like just like Lain.

Build Fighters just feels like a modern Crush Gear turbo or Beyblade.

I've actually had a few people recently suggest Evangelion so I might have to check it out. None of them said it was mindblowingly amazing though so I guess you all think of it pretty equally.

Honestly, when I read a short intro for Build Fighters and it sounded like a Beyblade type thing. Which is pretty much the reason I'm 'considering' it still.
Raiken-
The first season is really nice, in my opinion.
The second season is kinda weird, Gundam + Martial Arts.

Can anyone recommend me some anime that is romantic and if possible that the environment is a school, pls ?

Toradora?

Any suggestions to someone who is very new to the whole anime thing? The shows I have seen can be counted on on hand.

Don't know the terms you use around these shows but I don't want to see stuff that is basically hentai. The show(s) that I liked the most of the ones I've seen was probably Zankyou no Terror(spelling?) and Tokyo ghoul.
Do you guys have any other tips for a newcomer to watch?

There's Hentai which is anime pornography then there is also Ecchi which is pretty much softcore porn. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone anyway unless they specifically asked for it.

Look into Deathnote, Black Lagoon or Code Geass. They are pretty safe and popular action titles for a beginner plus they don't require you to have any extensive knowledge about Japan.

Can't go wrong with Ashita no Joe (older than 90's though) and Utena. Any reason for wanting older stuff?
Ochinchi-sama
Anyone know any decent mystery detective (maybe crime) anime no longer than 24 EPs. I wouldn't normally watch something like this but my boner pointed at the category one day.
Green Platinum
Ryuukishi07 Stuff
Higurashi
Umineko (While people will always point you to the VN the stuff included in the VN becomes much less mystery)
Ookamikakushi (Most disappointing of the three)

GOSICK
Denpa teki na Kanojo
Zankyou no terror
Hyouka

Thats the basics
Faust
Crime..?

Hmmmm, Psycho-Pass ? Jormungand ? Senkou no Night Raid ?

As for mystery, Denpa teki na Kanojo is good. Baccano! too.
Green Platinum
Would Yondemasu yo Azazel-san count?
Akutabe is still one of animes biggest badasses so it's worth it for that.
Faust
Might as well throw in Ghost Hound (A personal favorite of mine) too.

What a great show with all the genres I like.

the anime Berserk is in my opinion is good introduction to anime or anyone that's burnt out from all the moe that's taking over today's anime, its got action, drama, it can get a little slow paced at times but it gets epic.
it might be a bit old for some you but trust me its good! there's also 3 movies that came out not too long ago and it covers all 25 eps
my only complaint is that it leaves a lot questions unanswered.

Thank you! I find that some older stuffs has good plots although it could be a complex one at times ( explained much since they were made during older eras where its background would be completely different to any anime background nowadays )
Watching animes in older eras would be something interesting to do also on once. I don't really give a care for the artwork though.
