I did not, that is why we wanted to try farming, I got a class mod that increases our chances of getting rare weapons, so I want to at least try one more time till we try the third playthrough. I really want one of the shields, according to the wiki it doubles the amount of time you bleed out, and the time doesn't decrease each time you bleed out.

Blah, I should probably get around to playing the dlc for borderlands.

The whole point of that game (I believe) is not to be good with awesome physics and graphics and stuff (although the draw distance in that game is pretty fucking amazing). It's just to be an actual sandbox game. You're supposed to use your imagination and have fun in sandboxes, yes? That game totally lets you do that. Combat is shit, there's no question there. Hasn't anyone ever played Spider-man 2 and just swung around the city and gone to the highest skyscraper to jump off and catch yourself at the bottom and stuff? It's like that, except with way more stuff to do.
Prototype was like that too. Great fun in just fucking around.

Yeah that was a bad video but once you get to know the game, it is fun. If you could play multiplayer, even just two people, oh that'd be amazing.

The dual-hook is a fuckin' FUN toy though. hook a guy to a bike and drive off, dragging him behind you. Drive toward another vehicle going the other way, parachute away, and listen to the resulting explosion and guy dying.

Hook two canisters together, shoot them both, and pray they don't catch you by the neck when they start flailing around.

Though it requires a ton of finesse, I want to try ghost-riding a plane flying low enough to hookshot a guy onto the back end of the plane, hop back in the plane, and take his sorry ass for a drive

Saints Row 2 with a hookshot is good fun

I was thinking that, too. Co-op would be holy shit balls to the wall fun. I hecka like flying to the top of the map in a helicopter, jumping out, and trying to hookshot back into it. That one video made it look so easy. I hecka like flying around with the parachute, too. Zippin' along, going faster than a parachute should go. And hookshotting two people together is always fun.

And the best part about doing all of that crazy shit is that the game rewards you for it. That's just aces.

Been playing FFXIII in the last couple of days, I got into 12 hours or so, love it so far, I only have one complaint TOO LINEAR! You start the chapter from the beginning of the dungeon/area, chapter finishes you directly go next area (after a cut scene), shoping and upgrading in save points, there is no city or world map yet.
Ivalset
Linear is absolutely fine with me.
Mr Gaddy
If story is interesting, i can stand linear game

You do not jump into the overworld right away. You spend a lot of time early-game in Cocoon (i think) until eventually moving to some other big world thing with freedom to travel anywhere.

At least that's what I remember from a trailer I watched a week ago or so.

PS- I had a final fantasy 13 dream last night. My family hid my car keys and I proceeded to kick every one of their asses until they told me the location of them. After I was given the car keys, I then took a sled to gamestop.

That is all.

I got around to playing Just Cause 2, and despite how shitty it looks, it is actually quite fun. I might even buy it.

There are no cities in this one, so don't hold your breath. And you don't get the "freeroaming" kind of sidequests until chapter 11 out of 14, I think. The only thing that is kind of bullshit about this is that the completely have you by the balls when it comes to character development. Your characters can only upgrade the roles the game lets you upgrade for most of them game and you can't even level up beyond some stupid limit they have until you progress in the game. It's such a dick move.

I'm wondering whether I should start putting up a poll every month to just see what releases people are looking forward to and stuff, but I'm not sure if I should do that. Maybe I should make a poll to see if I should make a poll.

Ghost-riding vehicles into one another sucks though. I was hoping to get launched. Didn't even fall off the roof of the car.

This is sadly too true. I took two hours making something and it was still absolute crap and only I could finish it since it was full of traps you never saw until it was too late. But my bro and I had fun failing at it so...
Behon
And now I'm playing the first Uncharted. I'm enjoying the platforming/exploring parts, but can anyone tell me if they improved the combat in the sequel? They seem so cheap and frustrating at points and some of the checkpoints are badly placed.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
The first game was pretty much harder than the sequel. Not much has changed about the combat in the second one in terms of the guns and stuff, but grenades are on the L2 button and don't need to be aimed and have an actual radius, there are different enemies with different amounts of health and crap, and there's a lot more opportunity for stealth. Everything else is pretty much the same though, except for an extra reload button.

Basically, the fights are just designed a fuck load better.
Behon
Okay, that's good to know. I'm especially glad that they took the Sixaxis out of the grenade throwing; other than Heavy Rain and Flower, I haven't played a game that makes good use of it.

Also, is the second game any longer? I've only played the first one for a few hours, and according to my save data I'm 36% done.

I marathoned GOW3 on Normal in one day and I admit, ignoring the new stuff because I have nothing to say about them, it's not as hardcore as GOW1 or 2 when you need to over 20 tries just to get past one part.

Or maybe I've become more skilled with age... Hm...

But the game is still great.

By the way, can someone tell me about End of Eternity/Resonance of Fate?

xXSupanoobXx wrote:

I found both GoW1 and 2 to be pretty easy on Normal, a mild challenge on Hard, and so buttfuckingly difficult on the hardest difficulty that I don't play through it.
Ivalset
What do you want to know about it? I thought it was a pretty excellent game, recently finished my second playthrough of it. It's not really heavy on story, but the characters are awesome, and the gameplay is a bit strategic and is some form of pseudo turnbased. Difficulty curve is pretty steep until you get a hold of the battle system, though.

Hey, it looks like I lucked out on putting disgaea 3 purchase off. Price dropped from $40 new to $20 new. Literally happened like yesterday or a couple days ago, and I was considering buying it, but decided to wait until I finished my Resonance of Fate playthrough. Quite fortuitous indeed!

So since you've played RoF, I have a question that's been stuck with me since the demo.

How the hell do you do ultimates? If I'm not wrong, the one that involves pressing Triangle.

Actually I was talking about the obstacles, where in GoW1 and 2 they were harder to get past. In GoW3 the hardest obstacle was at that turning room with spikes.
Ivalset
They're called Tri-Attacks in the na version. You need to accumulate "resonance points", which are gained by performing hero actions that cross between the other two party members (the anchor line will turn blue when it's set correctly to generate a resonance point). The tri-attack itself is initiated with Triangle then executed with Square. All 3 characters essentially do a simultaneous hero action for only one bezel. It's pretty useful, and with enough resonance points you can easily carve through a room of 7+ enemies

Note that you'll lose stored resonance points by performing anything aside from hero actions that would generate resonance points.

I could go into way more depth if you like, not sure if you just wanted to know how to do them or everything about them.
Behon

Topic Starter
Seibei4211
PS3 version has this feature that lets you save the last 30 seconds of gameplay or record up to 10 minutes with in-game options, then either upload it to Youtube or save it to the hard disk. That is the best kind of feature to have in a free roam game like this.

Edit: The major one is that whole saving the last 30 seconds thing. The funniest crap happens on accident. So if they get that for PC, there'd be no real reason to get the PS3 version.

Topic Starter
Seibei4211
tl;dr -> Graphically and technically, yeah, sure. It's not really fun though.

Battle system was pretty much working as it should and there weren't any glitches to mention. But the game itself is just, you know, pretty boring. Not a lot of fun. The only good feelings you really get from the game are from when you fight a boss, but you die a few times, then you go and whoop its ass. Doesn't happen often though, and you don't really get that same feeling of conquest when you beat the guy in one try

Most of the game is pretty padded, which is to say chapters 1-10 and 12 didn't need to exist and were terribly boring and the only reason they were there was so the game would have an excuse to shove dozens of cutscenes down your throat. And the story-telling, while better than FFXII, didn't quite perform well in a few aspects. After most cutscenes, your datalog will be updated and it'll have a little recap of what you just saw in the cutscene, and the datalog is much better at describing what just happened than the cutscene did.

I liked the paradigms and pseudo-turn-based combat in FFXIII, but the main problem for me was that enemies were too 1 dimensional. It's like they created a boss skill set and then copy and pasted it with minor tweaks. Bosses also had entirely too much hp in general and, in my opinion, their art designs were boring.

I also didn't like how they literally push you through the game up until gran pulse, where they put you the middle of this giant place with little instruction. I feel as though gran pulse and the mark system would have been acceptable as a break from the story (which really should last at least twice as long as it did), instead of being the actual post-game content. I mean, wtf is the point of getting items from marks? Using them on other marks? The hardest story boss is trivial just by equipping death resist items that you can buy from the shop for little money.

game is pretty and had the potential to be great, but it's shallow and probably was just released to cash in on the final fantasy name
Atmey
Just beat FFXIII yesterday, took me that long cause I was away for three weeks. The story wasn't outstanding until they turned to Cie'th, I thought I got the bad ending, but they HAD to come back and ruin this twist. Playing the rest of the game with only Vanille and Fang would be quite interesting. As for the battle system, it is not bad by itself, but the "dungeons" were not that good, wish there were more of the tower. The art/design was not boring, but we have already seen it in the paste ~5 FF games
Death Resist? does that really help?

Cherub Crown thing kinda does help, especially if you suck and take forever to beat the guy. I think the story started going downhill after they started using the phrase "fal'Cie smoke and mirrors." Makes me wonder how much of the game was actually "fal'Cie smoke and mirrors."

adam2046
Fighting isn't actually very fun for me since you can pretty much get by with mashing square a whole lot while jumping over heads and occasionally hitting triangle and then doing a combo takedown whenever you can.
The titan bosses are just shit and they keep bloody appearing.
The Joker was a disappointing end fight.
Ivy's titan plants are just randomly strewn about the place when they appear and while kind of fun to avoid, are just boring to fight.
Ivy's fight just felt badly designed when they add in goons that are pretty much only there to get in your way.
Ivy's ass takes twice as long to load as the rest of her making the loading sequences take longer than they really should every time you die.
Actually most boss fights were pretty shit except for Harley and Killer Croc.
The Riddler's things were fun but some were just too easy.
Knife enemies are just there to make you hit circle occasionally.
The parts with Scarecrow were pretty unwowing especially after everyone hyped them up so much and his battles were the same thing every time. The only good Scarecrow sequence is the part in the hallway.
It would have been nice to have some enemy variation that was something other than "goon with x". The only thing that comes to mind are the insane inmates.
One of the game over voice clips sounds lower quality than the others which just serves to tick me off even more every time I die.

On the plus side, stealth parts are great.
Disarming bombs is kind of tense.

Killer Croc kinda sucked, too. Pop up, batarang, walk, pop up, batarang, walk, etc. Scarecrow's parts were only lame cause you read the hype and skewed your expectations of it. That part in the morgue was pretty cool, too.
