I never knew such a playstyle had existed like that; then again you learn something new everyday.

To answer your question, when I play IIDX on a keyboard my friends and I would play "spread", something like:
1.) Left Shift, zxc space ,./
2.) Left Shift, zxcv ,./
3.) Left Shift zxc m,./

I usually play by using the third method above, my friend uses the first because he used to play O2Jam and DMO or some shit back in the days. To be honest with you, if you're trying to play IIDX (officials), I highly recommend purchasing a dedicated controller to play, something like a US/JKOC with a PS2 -> USB adapter to start off and if you feel comfortable enough, purchase a DAO controller. Or if you want to just straight up play BMS on the keyboard, there's nothing wrong with that.

Well, I'm a P2-sided player, and I normally play with WER (space) L;' (right shift), but I'm trying to learn the IIDX layout by playing MK,L.;/ (right shift). It's a little cramped, but I really feel like it's helping me understand how the buttons would be laid out on a controller.

If you're trying to play and learn the IIDX layout, as I've mentioned before, try to get a hold of a US/JKOC so you actually learn the different hand positioning(s)/playstyles. I'm thinking of picking up a USKOC (which I've already mentioned earlier in this thread), which is why I'm trying to learn IIDX-style on keyboard. But I'm only at 1dan/2dan when I play with a spread layout (and quite a bit lower than that when playing with the layout I mentioned earlier). Do you think it's still worth the effort for me to keep at it, or should I just stick to the spread layout until I get a controller?

Play spread for a bit until you've purchased a USKOC then take the time to learn the layout. I honestly feel as though you shouldn't have to force yourself to play like that on the keyboard (the IIDX layout that is).

The transition from spread to the dedicated controller shouldn't be too bad, just backtrack a bit and pace yourself; for instance, understand where the keys are, try to figure out a decent hand positioning/playstyle that makes you comfortable for the time being and just have fun. Since you play on the 2P side you could ask me for tips or playstyles since I also play on the 2P side myself.

yay, I suck at tricoro and just started playing ww and this thread needs more activity!

Oh well. I should be getting an actual controller sometime soon; got a rainbow from someone in china shipping to me! I can only really pass 3's (really easy) and 4's (somewhat difficult) atm, maybe one of the really really easy 5's but would be a lot of luck since the gap is a bit larger there. Sad too, because there's a lot of nice songs I like that are 5's. I play at least one or two ~20 minute sessions each day, but I'm really trying to hold off on playing a lot until my controller arrives in the next week or so. Keyboard iidx ;_+

Kinda wish this was (or there was) a general bemani thread, since I play reflec beat too orz.

edit: daaammn that leaf/sakuzyo team for bms is going to be a powerhouse

Finally got that USKOC that I've been wanting to buy for a while, and managed to magically overclock the polling rate to 1000Hz, and it feels incredibly responsive! Pretty awesome considering that I've been hearing all sorts of complaints about input lag and being limited to only 250Hz. I also found out that the d3d antilag hook also seems to work with the tricoro AC, and that helps quite a bit too.

Anyways, I'm trying hard to make it back up to 3dan (where i was on keyboard before I switched), but some of the more scratch-heavy songs are really killing me. I don't want to be developing bad habits from using a smaller turntable (e.g. pinky scratching), so I really don't know how I should be scratching. I'm okay with maps like Shakunetsu Beach Side Bunny (N) where you're practically playing the keys one-handed though, it's only the transitions I have problems with. Any tips or info that I should know?

From what I know the size of a turntable doesn't really matter. What matters is the distance between keys and a tt. I'm still pretty bad at the game so I can't really give you any advices. :s

Turntable size doesn't matter, as long as you're able to hit the scratch and the controller works, you're fine. You're supposed to be pinky scratching if the scratch comes up or if you're playing scratch heavy songs, use your: middle, ring, pinky for a firm grip on the TT to scratch and use your left hand to hit the keys and right thumb to hit keys 6 and 7 if necessary.

Since you're making the transition from keyboard to controller, it'll take you a few games here and there to re-adjust. The most efficient play style (//imo) has to be 1048-shiki which is playing like this: http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm21611440

So what you're doing is that your left hand is static and right hand is slightly shifted in a horizontal position in which it makes it easier to reach out to catch the TT notes, the position goes as followed:
Key 1 -> Left Ring
Key 2 -> Left Middle
Key 3 -> Left Thumb
Key 4 -> Left Index
Key 5 -> Right Index
Key 6 -> Right Middle
Key 7 -> Right Thumb
TT -> Pinky

Usually I play a lot of BMS using this position and at times I have to resort to wrist scratching, but you can get around with just pinky scratching, you just have to be a little faster.

If you're talking about the [H], it's an entry Level 10 and it's not that difficult really. Just turn on Random and see if it makes a difference.

I play more Pop'n Music than IIDX, but when I do I always use mods. (Usually full assist since I'm so used to Pop'n.)

I'm a keyboard player for both games and I currently have data for Sirius, Lincle, and Tricoro (but only up to the Legend Cross event as far as I know). The highest I can go with mods is a 6 :P And you California people are so lucky, the only IIDX cab near me was the one at Planet Zero, and that place closed. Although I hear the Dallas area is getting a Round 1 soon. I can't wait. :D

The Rainbow Con is an okay controller, however it is not that great for high level of play. You should have gotten a DAO FPS instead.

Moving along... Who's excited for Pendual? The game seems pretty interesting from what I've seen so far and given that there have been a few screenshots released within the teaser website on e-Amusement. Looking forward to playing "ZZ" (it's a given that the [A] will be a 12 since it's like 6/10/?) and whatever else is available on the game. Just hoping there will be more 12s in this release that will bridge the gaps from 12.12 -> 12.13 -> 12.14.

I hope the 9th, 10th and Kaiden courses will be released earlier oppose to later towards the game's life, also, I hope Beachside Bunny isn't on the second stage of the Kaiden course because fuck scratch songs, ugggggh.

I mean the only Mass song that's considered "difficult" is just BSB. Every other Mass song is a mid tier 12. I hope they replace it with something that's similar to Cuvelia in terms of chart density and not based off a bullshit gimmick.

Tricoro's Kaiden course is honestly my favorite since it honestly feels like a legit course; a friend of mine who played the SPADA course with BSB felt it was a bit easier and was like, "I don't feel great playing this course; I want to clear Tricoro's course instead."

Edit: Unless izm releases his sequel to BSB...

Played some SPADA earlier today, surprisingly made it up to Beachside within the Kaiden course three times; however I kept failing out during the middle... Oh well. Hopefully the Kaiden course will change the second song within the course :S

I mean it doesn't hurt to play at the arcade. You may have to re-adjust to the cabinet, but you'll improve since you can play on an actual cabinet oppose to your home setup. People usually say after they play at the arcade, they start to clear charts that they've never cleared before at home.

Hehe, I'm trying out IIDX 10th Style and its infamously tight timing windows... but I'm getting Bs on charts that I've gotten AA on in Tricoro, and I can't even pass many of the charts that I thought I could do. Do you think it's worth it to continue to practice with 10th Style, or should I just stick to Tricoro?

ok ive been playing a lot of lr2 recently, it seems to have replaced osu as my most played game.
i have enough money to get a dao fp7 (wtf shipping price), but is it good in the long run?
also, can anyone give me a comparison between the honeywell and omron microswitches? i'm only asking because honeywell does seem cheaper, but i dont want an extremely light switch

I would say purchasing an FP7 or FPS will be well worth it in the end. The controller will last you a very long time, even if you play here and there; eventually you may find yourself playing for long periods of time.

In regards to Honeywells and Omrons... Omrons tend to come in a variety of weight and they have a longer life span. On the other hand, Honeywells tend to feel way too light and they're prone to breaking after a long period of time, oppose Omrons which has a longer life span. The preferred combination for players in Japan is 50g Omrons along with 100g springs because it's a perfect balance; not too heavy, not too light, it feels just right especially if you're working on stamina and timing.

I recently purchased a set of seven 50g Omron switches and 100g springs directly from Sanwa Denshi and once I installed everything I started to see a jump in my scores: -5 AA on AA [A], AAAing 7s and 8s without much of an issue, most of my 11s were increasing by like 60~100; my average ranking on most songs varies between 60~30/200~300. My issue was that my springs were too light and my switches were way too heavy so my keys felt way too spongy making it very difficult for me to time accordingly, yet I was able to mash through without an issue... At my level of play I needed something to balance it out and that's probably the best combination.

It's not worth it. Just stick to Tricoro since the timing, settings and other shit is different on 10th Style. You'll have a difficult time making the transition back to Tricoro if you just keep playing 10th Style. If you want to get better at timing, just keep playing various songs on Random and practice low density songs to improve.

I also wanted to mention IIDX is a retarded game, and it demands a lot of time if you want to improve. The best advice that I can offer is play on Random. The moment you get a controller or whatever, strictly play on Random. The reason is because you'll get an exposure to various patterns and shapes that can be applied towards difficult charts. If you play just Non-Ran or Mirror and replay the same chart, congrats, you're only learning how to play that one specific chart; however if you turn on that modification, you'll get a handful of patterns under your belt.

For reference, when my friend started, he played with Random only and became a 9th Dan in just four~five months of play.

Edit: In regards to Pendual that was released a few days ago, the theme looks great, and the default set list is solid.

You use Random for normal play (1-12), and S-Random if you're trying to practice jacks/chord jacks on low level charts (7~8).

So I was at the break the other day and met a lot of players and got to play pendual.

There's TONNES of easy 11s in pendual, and 10s are harder that normal. Suddenly the bridge between 10 and 11 is small.

Pendual 7 dan is also piss easy. I can reliably enter the safari with 100%.

8 dan... has miracle sympho... automatic sad face.

Well the different keybinding drastically drops my level (and skill)... when I'm using O2 keybind I could pass Lv.10 below charts and when using the DX/BMS keybind only Lv.5 below 'w'

Using diffrent setup is good to get rid of muscle memory. Also I gotta try DX keybind, because that's the only way i can possibly learn double scratch

too bad there aren't any e-amuse arcades nearby so i don't really care either way
*crosses fingers that the arcade in the asian megamall opening here in 2017 at least has DDR*
