Ok, let's condense and organise this fun silliness a little. I hope I don't miss anything. WIP. Things are listed in roughly the order they are mentioned.

Dramatis personae:

peppy: Roughly the deity of the game world, the essence of music and rhythm that makes everything tick. His power is suppressed by Saturos when he is infected by Gabe, but he first manages to set the chosen heroes on their journey.

Gabe: The true antagonist of the game, a despised virus that shuns all logic and rhythm. He manages to infect Saturos, messing up all rhythm in the world and creating monsters such as the dreaded "Ekuaiyo".

Saturos: peppy's emissary, rhythm given physical form. Greatly respected throughout the game world. He is corrupted by the Gabe virus and is blamed for the resulting turmoil. Overkill attack is Billion Blast, where the whole planet is turned into a hit circle, which is then tapped for 1.000.000.000 points.

buraimaster1234: Saturos' second in command, a grizzled and highly efficient assassin whose ultimate attack is Shotgun Symphony. Assaults the heroes a few times throughout their journey.

Eiji: Enigmatic merchant who knows more than he lets on. Guides the heroes along on certain parts of the plot. Tends to charge ridiculously high prices for his wares.

James: An aloof, morally ambiguous character (what is gm?).

Kharl: The King of something. Saturos pressures him to rule according to Gabe's designs, so he responds by covertly trying to hand over power to Luigihann. Being King in a world where rhythm rules all, he has control over tempo and can increase, decrease, arrest or otherwise disrupt and manipulate it.

Luigihann: Leader of a band of delinquents in the rundown slums, who go around the city drawing graffiti to make it a more lively looking place.

Echo49: An engineer and inventor without peer, creator of Banchobot (well, that last part is actually true)

Sinistro: A wise sage that helps the heroes by providing information on gameplay etc. Think tutorial person + Gaspar from Chrono Trigger.

awp: A somewhat annoying, comic relief, but also destructively erratic recurring boss who doesn't really heed his superiors, may join the heroes' side later on.

Reikin and Moomanibe: The destined heroes who can keep their personal rhythm after everyone else starts losing it due to Gabe's influence. Reikin at some point has his abilities copied and the optional super hard boss is extrapolated from them.

Rolled: A devious person with a deceptively good-natured appearance. He appears to go along with Saturos/Gabe's plans but secretly plots to overthrow him.

TiZ: A nightmarish looking boss who dwells in a twisted castle with Escher architecture, guarding the entrance to Saturos's adobe. Uses darkness and void-based attacks.

AgentBA8Rookbie: A...penguin with spiky hair...who accompanies the heroes at certain parts of the game. Uses a guitar.

mtmcl: Boss who attacks by drawing enemies etc. on a..."touchbad".

Loginer: Leader of the LOL pirates, the heroes hijack his ship when they need to cross a body of water. He comes after them in a new ship he "downloaded". Uses a variety of WTF attacks, like twirling a leek rapier.

Plot, gameplay, attacks, items etc. to be added later, I guess.

This would set up as a good premise for the Osu! Story Mode actually. While all the ideas in here are somewhat feasible for this, some tweaking would be needed.

Hm, if I were to FC Shotgun Symphony maybe I could learn the skill from burai when I defeat him, lol.

...I think we need to clone MOOMANiBE for awesome storyboarding art as well, lol.

On second thought, I wanna be in Luigi's Delinquents. They sound cool.
But I believe this would work best for an RPG. It is good for osu story mode, but an RPG would work better.
Unless that's what you mean.

Why not both? It could be an RPG story mode. Although how you'd pull it off... Is up to our imagination and resources.

Maybe like, walk around, and some parts are battles, other parts are songs? I dunno.
Either way, I am SO hyped about this.

The battles ARE songs. Random battles would be random ranked songs within a certain star range. And this should be integrated into Osu!.

But what happens if we use an attack that's the current song? Does it just use the attack?
Plus: We need sprites of our characters.

Cliche as it might be, maybe we should have an ally partially infected with the Gabe virus, and spends most of the game trying to resist it. At the end, depending on how well you did against certain attacks, he either is dispelled of the virus or is completely infected, and you have to face him in battle.

Sounds awesome. Like in Fable.

Since it's all focused on actual members of the community, might as well set up a forum thread/irc room and do it all in traditional text-based RP format :p

On the other hand, the idea of songs as RPG battles is clever. Sort of like Puzzle Quest, but with Osu instead of Bejeweled.

I think the idea would be standard FF-esque gameplay (a la FF4-6) with the battle mechanics adjusting to be more osu!-y, as in, your damage/accuracy for certain attacks (both for and against) is influenced by your ability to perform on certain beatmap snippets.

I'm so in for this. I call dibs on twin swordsman. I'll even take the part of the partially infected party member if i have to

Well, I could always make my own sprites, + another user or two. And jokes aside, using something like RPG Maker would really speed things up(In fact, character sprites are the only things we'd have to draw). Also, we could use music from popular beatmaps, as for the soundtrack. :>

I'm pretty good at meshing sprites together.
Just don't make me do too much at one time.

I can't commit to anything until I know how busy my summer will be, but I may be able to help on the sprite end of things. ^^;

I'm still for making this thing a part of osu, although that would require some cooperation from peppy to give it the green light. Not to mention that the ideas here would need to change a bit. But RM is also a good idea.

There's no real chain of command here so I think it's relatively safe for you to come up with something. Primary problem is trying to keep a good plot hidden until we play it while still explaining enough to give us an idea on what you're doing.

Well the premise as well as a few plot points (twists?) are already out and about made public, so the general idea is there. It's still very easy to add a lot of details into the story to keep the player guessing/anticipating and keep the premise workable. Private IRC channels might be a good place for those interested in writing to collaborate...but so far I think Agent and I are the only people really interested in the core writing? So simply using PMs would be fine. I think it'd be nice to have a sort of "Supervisor" to bounce ideas off of, Sinistro.

James pointed out that we need to add AMANTHES THE INVINCIBLE. For those of you unfamiliar with this character, there's a detailed irc log posted in the lol@irc thread. Not sure where, but it was shortly after the new public release that introduced Bancho.

A servant of one of the major enemies that is, for all intents and purposes, invincible.

And also I suggest to have those other players (newbies, high ranking players that doesnt bother talking, people who register for the sake of getting songs, etc.) to be a NPC for towns if Osu! RPG have any. This includes random people, npc sellers etc.

Amanthes the invincible should be a bonus boss!
It takes a Double HarmoniZe Shock from awp and James to defeat it, but both must use the attack in the same turn!

Yeah. Considerably noteworthy people will play an integral or cameo role, but many others can be the names of things like monsters, towns and equipment I figure.

Though I see a lot of people saying "I'd have ____________ for an attack!", something like 75% of the population probably won't have "attacks". This isn't Chrono Cross; there'd be like 3 main characters and x guest characters.

Also James, yes - the Double HarmoniZe Shock thing would work because awp kind of flip-flops allegiances and James is doing his own thing in the story, so there's no reason they can't team up at some point.

I'm cool with not knowing because of spoilers, but I might need to know, because I'm a pending writer.

Doubt Amanthes can be killed with a Double HarmoniZe Shock though...

Like, when Amanthes is down to a certain amount of HP, awp/James can only use Double HarmoniZe Shock. And the attack animation would have to be really cool, like, Both of them point their fingers at Amanthes and yell "DOUBLE HARMONIZE SHOCK!" And like, all the beats and such come crashing towards him and, boom.

Well, what I was thinking was AMANTHES THE INVINCIBLE is a mindless servant under the command of ?????? - when you fight him, it's basically an endurance challenge as he won't die. Since he's invincible. This happens either two or three times in the game, but after the last time it happens, ??????? decides to further illustrate the futility of your efforts by killing AMANTHES him/herself with a single blow. And then you're like "oh fuck".

So basically ???? destroys Amanthes with that attack?

That's kind of awp's role. He is part of Saturos' army but thinks of himself as a "special case", in that he's an equal, can't be bossed around etc. From awp's perspective, he and the rest of Saturos' army, including Saturos himself, are all in a race to put an end to the heroes, though his motives, - both direct and alterior - are probably going to be subject to ambiguity and also change from time to time.

Running with this idea, awp could join the main party near the end with the following argument: "If I'm going to win this race, I might as well help them (the heroes) out and knock off my competition - we have the same enemies."

I read the whole thread and I've noticed I don't have a role yet.
I think I would be the one of the starting imbalanced, badass characters then suddenly got infected by the virus (gabe?) somewhere in the part of the story. Then obviously leaves the party to stop the main characters (recurring boss too, since I sometimes like to join other people too) then afterwards virus got removed (after getting owned for a few times + blablabla) but decides not to return to the party but to be alone blablabla and I won't finish the role.

dood James you're totally this badass mercenary-ish character that pretty much has no loyalties to anybody. So your idea would work with it.

James could discover he's been infected, but not say anything about it to anyone else and bugger off on his own as a result to try and stop it by himself.

But I think some people need a skill list, because it would be helpful. But by the time this gets made, everyone will probably have made more maps, and aced more songs, so it'll probably be different.

Yeah, Skins would be armour.
Every character would start with the default osu skin, and places would sell skins.
Maybe you get to go to the Hideout of Luigi's Delinquents, and you can buy all kinds of skins there.

Hideout of Luigi is like a hidden area not even visible in the world map (just ripped this off from some games, SO2)

and sells every expensive semi-imbalanced stuff.

and yeah everyone in the main party would start in default armors/skins
even their weapons? mouse(flail), pen+tablet(SnS), crappy tablet pc(book for mages?)

Well, I wouldn't know about engines, seeing as I haven't ever used RPG Maker, so I don't know how good it is, but it might have to be a custom engine.
