It's the right place to ask, but it depends, really on what you want, as these shows are all differently-paced and have different sorts of execution.

If you want a pretty standard harem-VN adaptation, go for Akane-Iro. If you want a slower-paced slice of life, either Tamayura or Hyouka. If you want a slightly faster-paced slice of life, go for Tari Tari. If you want a mystery anime, go for Gosick.

Out of all of those, I'd suggest either Gosick or Tari Tari, just out of personal favourites.
Birdy
Gosick will be the first then. Thanks!

Just sayin'

-Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?

As far as the catgirl suggestions are concerned: Ehh, not much fetish stuff is my field of expertise, but I guess Asobi ni Ikuyo! (catgirl aliens + girls with guns; I haven't seen much of it but I've heard mixed things) would fit your expectations. The episodes I saw still did have a lot of comedy, so hey.

Also, I wanted to just remind everyone of something. Textwall impending.

ampzz wrote:

...we move on to the part of offering suggestions to particular users which is simpler if you do something that includes:
  1. Try to break up certain aspects of your suggestion list by grouping similar anime together or, if they're after multiple genre requests, group them into their respective labels.
Some people prefer being able to organise their plan-to-watch lists by watching one genre type at a time.
  2. Possibly give your own short take on the anime titles which doesn't have to be much, even a few words is better than nothing at all.
  3. Take into consideration of which anime they've listed as already seen or the comparative title they're after.
  4. Offer a few anime titles at a time, even if they are the OVA of the same named anime title as most people might skip OVA, OAD or movies since they didn't know about them.
What I'm trying to get at by quoting the OP here is to not leave a list of "this is stuff I like go watch this now". We're supposed to be fulfilling search criteria from a poster, not just...offering blanket suggestions. There are guides on many websites for titles major anime fans should watch to just be in the know, so doing things like quoting those here does not help anyone (maybe adding lists like those to the OP would help).

Similarly, this is not a thread to just throw down titles you might like without any rhyme or reason. It makes the flow of the thread even more awkward, especially when you don't explain the reasoning for throwing down these titles.

Finally, at least pay attention to certain things when making suggestions. Like, if you have a request arranged like this:

Request wrote:

I watched and liked Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Black Lagoon. Where should I go next?
A good response would be the following:

Suggestion wrote:

I would suggest both seasons of Jormungand (Jormungand and Jormungand Perfect Order). They have a heavy focus on action, deal with bouts of moral ambiguity, feel very different from most other action anime, and have a mature look and feel to them. The emphasis on gunplay in its action make it more similar to Bebop and Black Lagoon compared to Champloo, but the fight choreography is still there and rather intense.
A mediocre response would be the following:

Suggestion wrote:

Watch Jormungand! It's full of action and Koko is a badass. :D
A bad response would be the following:

Suggestion wrote:

Watch Jormungand Koko is my waifu
An off-kilter response would be:

Suggestion wrote:

Um...Eureka Seven has action and nice animation, maybe check that out?
Notice that offering a more detailed suggestion would be able to possibly highlight elements of the show that people liked. It's a matter of finding plenty of similarities between titles, whether that'd be tonally, plot-wise, character-wise, animation-quality-wise, and so on. Generally, the more things two shows have in common while still being their own thing, the better the suggestion is. If they ask about a show you don't know about and don't provide detail on what they liked about it, do some research. Reading a plot synopsis/reviews on sites like Anime News Network or MAL generally can aid in making better suggestions.

tl;dr: Use your heads when making suggestions. It makes it much easier on the requester.

I'm trying to find a good anime that's emotional, but in the genre of shounen. Any suggestions?

The only one I can think of is BECK.

It's not as emotional as it make you cry river but for me, I like how they try to advance with their band and the interaction between the band mates. Also some occasion with the band playing their song on the stage is quite emotional for me.

PS: You can also some of the mainstream title (if you haven't watched them) like Gintama, they have some tear inducing moments in some of their arc.

Any suggestions for me to find a comedy anime besides Nichijou? :<

Just finish Starry Star. It was great. I actually cried at the end, it so sad . Any good Reverse Harem?
SPOILER
I already watch Uta no prince-sama and Ouran High School Host Club
Foxclore
Gintama is a fantastic comedy
It' very long though, 252 episodes

Great Teacher Onizuka is also very good

Great Teacher Onizuka is a VERY silly comedy, very much in line with Nichijou in terms of its silliness, but not its over-the-top nature.

DX5536 wrote:

You've already seen Ouran High School Host Club, so not really. I kinda hesitantly recommend Code:Breaker, but I haven't finished it, so I can't fully get behind it. It's definitely a reverse harem, but the romance is definitely not the focus.

So I'm kind of wanting to get back into animu. Does anybody have any suggestions of what I should watch?

I'm looking more for happy Slice of Life stuff, but I'm down for a good variety of things to watch, as long as it's good

Is there anything I should change/add/drop?

Also, I'm planning on dropping OHSHC. It doesn't settle well for me at all, and I only watched it because I was told by someone I was fond of to watch it, but that's since failed. Good idea y/n

Btooom has twelve episodes; it's a 'good' anime.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Btooom!
Summary:
Ryōta Sakamoto is an unemployed 22-year-old who lives with his mother. In the real world, there may be nothing really special about him, but online, he's one of the world's top players of the combat game called Btooom!. One day, he awakes in what appears to be a tropical island, though he has no memory of how or why he has come to be there. While wandering around, Ryōta sees someone and calls out for help. The stranger responds by throwing a bomb at him. Ryōta soon realizes both that his life is in danger and that he has somehow been trapped in a real-life version of his favorite game. In the game Ryota meets Himiko, who is another Btooom! gamer — and supposedly Ryota's in-game wife.

I'll start off by saying I haven't seen loads of anime either, but I can tell you a few things about some of the titles you have here.

Sword Art Online will only come out as good to you if you like MMORPGs and other similar genres. The characters are weak, Kirito seems invincible but the combat scenes are epic enough to make up for it. The ending is great, too.

Steins;Gate is my favourite anime I've watched so far. It's pretty much split into two halves, the first 12ish episodes are a slice of life comedy, building towards the second half. You will be confused by what is going on until you finished the series/watched further episodes, but you will like it. The second part is the most creative use of time travel I've seen, it is VERY dramatic and most likely will make you cry for a bit. I'm still questioning how on earth the main character maintained his sanity after going through all of it. The Characters and story are the strongpoints here, everything pieces together and when it clicks, that is when you recognize how amazingly creative the writers are. It's a fairly slow start, but since you enjoy slice of life you won't mind.

I couldnt' watch more than 2 episodes of madoka, I just can't handle the magical girls genre at all. 0 interest.

Hope this helped a bit.

Yes.

  1. Great Teacher Onizuka. It is a silly comedy and indeed does not have the moe factor that the three titles you listed have (I personally don't mind the lack of moe in the slightest, but eh). Some points get a little after-school-special-ish later on in the series, but it's still damn silly and funny. Easily one of my favourite comedies out there.
  2. School Rumble. Basically, this is love polygon heaven. It is goofy about it every step of the way. Not the least bit serious. It has a special place in my heart and always lightens my mood.
  3. And Yet The Town Moves. One of the more underappreciated Shaft shows out there. Also not a serious show (then again, you asked for comedies), and it is a little off-kilter at points. I still find a lot of the humor in this show genuinely funny and the last episode is both sad and amazingly funny.
Three shows that are definitely worth your time, if your funny bone agrees with silly.

Also just watch Welcome to the NHK. Dark, dark humor at its finest.

Simple; just watch every generic anime that somehow develops a fan base due to one or two of the female characters as the protagonist is either the dense, stereotypical harem lead or the kind that completely lacks any impact by themself.

Over all, most anime titles have become far too generic over the past few years as they take good qualities of decent, older titles and try to profit off them by poorly executing the characters in a (highly likely) copy/paste story setting with minimal effort in trying to create a unique story.

Let's use Shana from Shakugan no Shana for example; before she came along there was very minimal to zero focus on 'pettanko' (no, she's not a bloody loli you gits) and short characters as they were generally looked down upon. Then the anime aired and after that there was a rise in the 'new' stereotype (which actually existed before) of these pettanko and short tsundere types just exploded over the anime scene to the point where even only 2 years the character type was boring as heck to see in anime.

With a few rare exceptions like Taiga from Toradora! for example.

Biased view aside; here's a bunch of titles to venture a try at in no particular order:
  1. Love Hina - Strong nostalgia on this title; one of the few titles which kicked off the harem stereotype and a somewhat likeable cast.
  2. Mahoraba: Heartful days - Not a school setting but this is still quite enjoyable with the character interactions.
  3. Angel Beats! - If you haven't seen this already it is probably then you've missed out on a really decent piece of anime. The anime keeps a continual check on quality from the opening, to the mid and finally with the closure.
  4. Hachimitsu to Clover - Simply enjoyable and is something the base of Sakurasou can be taken from as it has a guy unsure with what to do with his life until meeting a certain talented girl.
  5. Seto no Hanayome - This title really shows you how well comedy can be executed with a very enjoyable art style and character line-up to boot.
  6. Seitokai Yakuindomo - A really comedic take on an all-girls school come co-education status.
  7. School Rumble - One of the memorable and successful school themed based anime that actually proved to set standards for quite a few of the current day stereotypes. The only thing which was the shame in this series was the third instalment.
  8. Kannagi - A really down to earth school life comedy with some really interesting concepts based around the cast.
  9. Kimikiss Pure Rouge - Not really something that most would actually recommend but you could probably give it a shot.
  10. Nyan Koi! - The interactions between the male protagonist towards both the female characters and the cats within the series (which he is allergic to) is quite nice.
  11. Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai - I can see the ending! No idea how Manglobe managed to nail this correctly yet completely screw up Hayate no Gotoku.
  12. Lamune - I would be surprised if anyone would even know of this anime; it's one of those rare slow romance types that you either come to like or not.
  13. Seitokai no Ichizon - A really balanced harem comedy which for how much of the anime screen time in based purely in the one room is executed quite well. Avoid the second season as AIC ruined it.
  14. Karin - Might appeal to you or someone else. Vampire female lead with a protagonist who finds out about her secret; love ensues!
  15. Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku - Looks pretty as the artwork was actually based off August's visual novel but the ending was sort of weak to me.
  16. Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun - Might appeal to you, might not. Think typical shoujo setting.
  17. Shuffle! - I feel dirty even letting this have a placing in a recommendation list but it might be something you could enjoy. If you've read the visual novel of this you'll understand why I really dislike this.
Rule of thumb: Don't just judge an anime by how 'pretty' it is as some tend to skimp on actual plot favouring just trying to make shit look shiny/moe (lol) focused as some of the older anime titles are really enjoyable and under appreciated.

Personal recommendations to anyone who hasn't seen these titles already (no additional information needs to be said):
  1. Great Teacher Onizuka
  2. Higashi no Eden
  3. Nodame Cantabile
  4. Lovely★Complex

Anybody knows any anime series that's like sakurasou and chuunibyou??
I totally need those -,-
Simple; just watch every generic anime that somehow develops a fan base due to one or two of the female characters as the protagonist is either the dense, stereotypical harem lead or the kind that completely lacks any impact by themself.

Thanks for the amazing reply!! ;) ;) ;) btw,yes i realized that some the earlier animes have much more deep and interesting plotlines , compared to anime series nowadays, which ,like you said, emphasizes mostly on how the anime itself look, without giving a damn about the story. As a result,a lot of people nowadays focus solely on "looks" ,which for me,is insignificant compared to the story itself. Thanks again!! now i dont have to worry about what anime to watch during next week... !!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I'm pretty sure that she/he already watched Clannad, I mean it too famous for an otaku.

I'm not sure if One is a good one, but the story is similar to Kanon. Although it's just OVAs.

I'd fucking toss my money at the screen if they adapt Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky flawlessly.

I think millions of other otakus would too.

Why in the hell did you list HENTAI as a recommendation?

.... Anyways, what about anime that stand out like Big O or s-CRY-ed?

Oh, and Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure. They're more around the Sci-fi area, but has some interesting traits.

Since common sense doesn't seem to apply to people; going to add this as a permanent rule which must be adhered to otherwise your post will be removed, no questions asked.
  1. Do not link, discuss or 'recommend' any hentai title, ever.
You can find it added into the bottom of the opening post for this thread as well so there's no excuses for not knowing about it.

I'll be getting admins to clear out all of the hentai discussion (which should never have happened in the first place) so that this thread can be viewed by everyone without the need for this crap to ever be in view.

In saying that, it is a part of the rules regarding Otaku Culture anyhow.

I'm searching for an anime in the genre of gore, resembeling the newly released Attack on Titan. Something including the Supernatural of course. I just want to see a brutal character with little care fo humanity and power. I've seen Guilty Crown, Death Note, Ganz, Deadman Wonderland,Naruto, Bleach, and many more. I actually do not mind if they are in Manga state right at the moment. Any suggestion is great.

You could try Blood+.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/150/Blood+
The blood and gore is fairly plentiful. =P
Supernatural, yes. Vampires / monsters known as Chiropterans are the reason why, there.
Most of the antagonists I can say care little for humanity, especially in mid-stages of the anime.
The synopsis in the link will give you more of an idea what it's about.

It's a 50 episode anime. It actually has a manga out but it doesn't really follow the exact same story line - someone can correct me of any details on that since I read it ages ago. It's somewhat old so finding a higher-quality stream / torrent / download might be a little difficult. I watched it in English dub and they were done really well - I can't tell you much on the Japanese voice actors though. The story is strong and beats Guilty Crown in that regard, though the pacing felt somewhat slow at times (only a minor irk to me). OST is good, but was nothing overly special to me.

Give it a try, you might like it.

How is Samurai Champloo?
My friend showed me a Youtube video of a trailer of it and it looks awesome.
Also, how long is it? if it's lengthy, are there a lot of fillers? because I have a pretty short attention span.
The short length of Mirai Nikki and the fact that something interesting/exciting was always happening was one of the things that really made me stick with it, if that gives you an idea of what kind of anime I'm looking for.

Samurai Champloo is an absolutely amazing anime, I promise. Its story follows a girl in search of a specific samurai who smells of Sunflowers and will be referred to as the Sunflower Samurai. The anime is fairly brutal, sparing no scene of blood shedding or destruction. It has great historical background and has some nonfictional plot which the watcher needs to be constantly reminded that it is NOT real or historically accurate. Highly recommended . ( Vulgar Language and Sexual Activity, as well as Blood and Gore warning. )

Anyone can recommend me a good shounen, fantasy/supernatural (with a little or a lot of comedy) anime? that doesn't have much romance, if possible...
I really enjoyed Medaka Box&Medaka Box Abnormal, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, Ao no Exorcist, Ixion Saga DT, P4A, and was wondering if there are any other anime that resembles any of those anyone can recommend me? (I don't mind gore). Also what do you guys think about Lupin The Third: Mine Fujiko to iu Onna (story-wise) is it good?

Depends wholly on the type of comedy.

If you want fast-paced, silly gags, go for Daily Lives of High School Boys (Danshi Kokousei no Nichijou). If you're more of a slower-paced type of person who still enjoys surreal gags, Azumanga Daioh is a good option. If you want a combination of the two, go for Nichijou.

If you dig general high school comedy, you can't go wrong with Great Teacher Onizuka (be warned, as there is fanservice). And Yet The Town Moves (Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru) is an often-forgotten comedy that might be the tamest thing Shaft's ever put out, and it benefits from this by having some quick-paced dialogue and knowing very well about what it's poking fun at.

If you want reference comedy, Binbogami ga! is a decent selection, as the references only enhance the joke and can still be understood from a visual context (literally the only time that reference comedy works; pointing out that something exists is not a joke looking at you, Lucky Star). It has a bit of fanservice as well, but it happens.

Hopefully this helps!

Angel Beats!       STREAM LINKS REMOVED. AGAINST FORUM RULES.

Durarara!!

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

They're all somewhat similar (except for Angel Beats!, but that one's seriously really worth watching.) Loved watching all of them. Also if you'll allow me, I would really recommend watching Samurai Champloo. Most people I know (with different genre tastes) loved it.

Are there any anime out there similar to Higurashi or Steins;Gate? I tried Umineko, but i dropped it at ep 2. Should I pick it up again? Other animes I enjoyed: Death Note, Code Geass, Darker than Black, Durarara, Mirai Nikki, Elfen Lied, Black Lagoon. Yeah I watch a lot of mainstream stuff. :P I like semi horror stuff, though as long as the story has a decent plot I'd probably enjoy watching it. (So please don't recommend stuff like SAO as it had one of the worst plots in my opinion. :( Not saying it's a bad anime though! It just wasn't made for me.)

I haven't found myself enjoying any anime too much the last few months, would be nice to pick one up again. If anyone has any recommendation at all based on my preferences, that would be highly appreciated.

Hey guys.

Dunno how often you hear that question, but:
I want to watch Umineko No Naku Koro Ni and wanted to ask if it is, in any way, related to Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni and if I am required to watch Higurashi before Umineko since it came out earlier, or not. And, if they are related, in which way they are.
Mogsy
Higurashi is related to Umineko in that they are created by the same creator and that there are expys of two characters from Higurashi in Umineko (just characters who look/act similarly but are different characters). You do not need to know one before interacting with the other, it just makes some fanon subtext a bit more interesting.

With this in mind, though, I'm not as big on the Umineko anime as I am on the visual novel series due to the ruined pacing and annoying character interpretation. The pacing is much too quick compared to the VN's atmospheric elements.
Restless Spirit
Thank you very much.

I planned to watch the anime after playing the VN anyway, so yeah. I'll see it then. First I want to see the original. Where it came from. I developed such an interest in Umineko that I thought playing the novel first would be a good step. Thank you for your convenience.
