Yeah the PSP games have downloadable maps which you put in the PSP game save folder:
I've done it for portable version one, clicking into a menu in the game generates a link HTML file in the save game folder.
(And no, I don't have the original UMD disc, run it off memory stick.)
This takes you to the Japanese Namco website where you can download new maps for the games in the form of two files per map: a .DON and a .KAT - So for example KOIBUMI.DON and KOIBUMI.KAT can be downloaded and stored in the save folder, and are detected by the game on running it.
I can only presume the .DON holds the song as they are usually 1-4mb...ish. The .KAT file is probably a file holding the maps themselves or files that say 'this is a genuine game map, run it' in the game. I have seen a 'custom notes' map on YouTube so maybe there is a way to use this as an exploit for custom notes.
