MvC3 was alright for about an hour. I can't tolerate that game for some reason. Not bad at it, just don't like it.

Oh right, "X-factor". Derp

But MvC3 was kind of noobed out...
Was Ival good at Melty Blood? Can't quite remember.

Regardless I'm going to go classical for the next game and go for the Sly Cooper Trilogy.

Loved it when I played it on my uncle's PS2. Want it on my PS3.

Man, Saints Row keeps getting better. I thought I was some unstoppable shit once I got a fully upgraded Bulldog with a turret. Then I thought I was definitely unstoppable once I got a tank in my garage. But now I am the tank. Invincible + infinite rocket launcher. Brutes are a joke now. And tanks.

Well, I 100%'d Saints Row 3, so I guess it's time for Saints Row 2. By the way, it's really annoying how they didn't let you choose black as a clothing color. That makes no sense.
awp
Saint's Row 2 is probably much harder to get 100% in. I remember the highest-difficulty diversions being really, really difficult (for some diversions). I wasn't able to clear all the drug trafficking ones iirc - particularly because you were confined to a single vehicle and once that thing was on fire, Game Over Man

So I played the very beginning of Saints Row 2, but I don't think I can keep playing that after beating Saints Row 3. Like, it's such a major step down that I just can't deal with it. The fact that I can't just jump straight into cars sucks so bad. And the control scheme is the stupidest thing I've seen. I also miss my character. Some of that wouldn't be such a problem if I wasn't already so entranced with SR3 though.
Lilac
At least we now know that Saints Row 3 is one of those games which had a better sequel.

Saints Row 2 has a quick-car mode as well.

Jump on the hood of the car and press triangle.

SR3 is better than SR2 gameplay-wise, but SR2 had a better character creator
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
You have to jump on the car? That's weird. I liked being able to sprint and jump into the car from a block away.

I will not argue the fact that the character customization was better. But it didn't have some of the options that I used in the third one, so I couldn't even get close to having the same character as the third one. Also, the clothing options were way, way, way better. You had styles, more clothing options, and you could pick black and white for once.
awp

Seibei4211 wrote:

yeah, it's a bug. I don't know if they've fixed it since I last played it though. You go from on top of the car to instantly inside it.

Saints Row 2 allowed me to make Waluigi, so I can never argue with those results.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Oh, it's a bug. I thought that was a gameplay feature or something. That would be weird. Anyway, I hate how they switched square and X around in areas like reloading/jumping and handbraking. And R3 to zoom sucks in any game. And this may only be a temporary problem, but it was pissing me off in the beginning. A lot of the times when an enemy would melee me, I'd fall down, get up, then immediately get hit again before I can counter or run away and have to get back up again. So stupid.
awp
I saw some SR3 gameplay videos that demonstrated how wrong I'm playing that game. I like base jumping, but I've never grappled a pedestrian and taken them base jumping with me. There's a cheat code that makes the entire city of Steelport intoxicated and I had no idea.
ampzz
I've never actually had a problem with that instant 'warp' inside a car when you stand on it as it was always a massive time saver when you're in the middle of running for your bloody life. XD

It's a lot nicer than how clunky and retarded trying to steal cars in GTAIV was at least.

Random splice of fun and humour made it enjoyable as heck.
Don't tell me none of you launched yourself from aircraft to land on a car and instantly start driving as if nothing ever happened whilst pissing yourself laughing?

Is there any game on the PS3 that's good with online co-op?
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Full campaign or just co-op mode? PS3 exclusive or anything on PS3? Saints Row 3 has full co-op. Haven't done it, but I don't see why it wouldn't be fun. Army of Two 2 and Resident Evil 5 have fun co-op. Dead Island, Borderlands.

Ok, I tried playing some Deus Ex today. I didn't get very far though. I kept getting bored and taking breaks and at one point I even took a nap because of how bored I was. That game makes it seem like you have a choice between using stealth or going in guns a-blazing. But you don't. Because you get a ridiculous amount of XP for doing stealth and you get piddly shit for just shooting them. And when you start an alarm, the game makes you feel like you fucked up. If they want this game to be so stealth-based though, they could've at least made the stealth fun.
awp

Seibei4211 wrote:

I heard they don't because boss fights
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
That's part of the reason why the game's so annoying though. They really, really, really want you to use stealth, but then they have boss fights which basically prohibit that, so it makes no sense.

Edit: Oh, another reason I know they want you to use stealth is that your health regeneration is pathetically slow and you can barely take any damage even on Easy. Also, the controls are permanently configured for a stealth game as opposed to a shooting game (L1 is cover and R3 is zoom).
awp
Cover-based shooters and regenerating health can take a boot to the ass anyway
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
So I think my problem with Saints Row 2 initially was the fact that I tried to jump into that right after beating SR3. But I'm revisiting that game now. That jumping on cars trick is bloody awesome. It's kind of weird how you have to do the activities to get the bonuses in this.

Arghhh, my dorm neighbor's internet went down and I've been stuck without it for a week and a half now. Probably should have gotten my own a month ago. (Cafe is my internet for now)

Almost platinum'd Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny. Just need to catch 2000 fish for it...
First Rune Factory game I've played.
Great game, saw Skyripper playing it so I decided to get it.

Also got No More Heroes: Hero's Paradise. I saw some girl licking a bat on the cover of the case and I knew I had to get it.
At first, I fell asleep an hour in because it got really boring but then it started becoming fun as I progressed through the game. The handling on the motorcycle driven is really wonky. I don't know if that's just how it is but there's a 1 second delay before it starts turning. That's one thing I don't like about the game not to mention the minute wait to save. Overall though, it's decent.

I'm probably gonna buy Saints Row 3 just because.

Waiting for FFXIII-2 'til then.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, I wanna get Rune Factory. How's the combat in that anyway? It looked kind of Kingdom Hearts-esque.

Who's getting FFXIII-2 anyway? I'm still not sure if I should. I got the Plat in the last game, but I didn't really like it. And the fact that they're doing that stupid monster party member thing like in Tales of Symphonia 2 isn't helping to convince me to buy it.
awp
It's a numerical Final Fantasy game, so I'll likely play through it eventually.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
It's kind of crap that they made a sequel, and then made sure that you didn't get to keep any of the party members from the original. So you're stuck with Serah and a dude wearing poofy, purple pants. Not to mention everything's so wildly different that it's hard to call it a sequel. Definitely feels like a spin-off.
awp
from what I've seen the battle system is almost identical
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, that's the only thing that's keeping me from thinking this should just be FFXV. But you've got towns again, you can replay parts of the story, I guess, you've got the Pokemon crap, you've got a new battle encounter system, branching dialogue trees, summons work differently, and there are quicktime events in battles now. The only thing that's the same as FFXIII is paradigms.
Ivalset
Paradigms were kind of a big deal though.

If I had to use a completely imaginary weighted system I'd probably say paradigms were about 85% of the battle system.
awp
the other 15% was YOU AFRAID OF OL' SAZH?
Ivalset
Goddamn, that head bobbing.

Fuck, I just realized how shitty FFXIII-2 is going to be without that.

I hope Serah's provoke is good enough.
awp
haha no, that ain't happenin. I think Sazh is still in the game, but he's not playable, so we're stuck with a bunch of faggots for party members
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
A bunch? I think there's only the two permanent party members. I think you get to play as Lightning temporarily and I don't know if Sazh is playable, but I think he's DLC anyway. And I think you can play as some NORA members or something?
DawnII
I'm guessing Serah and futurefag as permanent party with some Lightning playability. Guest characters will show up but they will be autonomous, like the NORA members were in the beginning of XIII (or were they, so fucking long since I touched that game). Snowfag (omg I needed moar party in da back) and Hope (I like to think I outgrew my androgyny) will be some such characters. Whatever, as long as I can use a malboro and breathe on bitches I will be satisfied.

Fuck, guys. Fuck. Resident Evil 6. November 20th. Screw this Operation Raccoon City buuullshit coming out soon. All of a sudden November 20th is all that matters. Every game in between has vanished from my horizon and it's all about RE6.
awp
RE5 was actually a bit disappointing though, don't you think? I mean, that doesn't mean RE6 won't be any good, and won't be better, but I find anticipation for it challenging.

In other words I have acquired and been playing Shadow of the Colossus in 3D. I appreciate the 3D aspect of it but dammit why is every friggin' HD remake done so poorly
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
It would have been nearly impossible for me to have been disappointed with RE5. I didn't play any other RE game and I wasn't even looking forward to RE5. I only got it because Rolled convinced me to get it and I only played it in co-op with him on Veteran during my first playthrough. That was the best way to experience that game for me. If I was waiting for that game and though RE4 was the greatest thing ever, then played RE5 by myself, regardless of difficulty, it would've sucked. Now see, after I had such a great time with RE5, I played RE4 because of all the hype, and I didn't like it even half as much as RE5, so that disappointed me.

Also, watch the trailer. It's pretty exciting, especially when Leon does this awesome in-gameplay move near the end. I can't say I'm excited by the apparent extra focus on cover-based shooting though.
Ivalset
Dude, november 20th is a long way away. Can you stay hype that long?

In much sooner news, SSX is out next month.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
All I said was that it's the only game I care about right now. The other games that I'm excited about don't even have specific release dates, so I can't get excited by them until they do. I guess Asura's Wrath will be pretty cool. Syndicate could be fun. But for the most part, I'm not really excited about any games coming out for a while.
ampzz
Resident Evil 6 has Leon S. Kennedy, nothing else matters even if the game itself turns out to be shit by my books.

On an unrelated to Resident Evil note, FFXIII-2 demo was atrocious to play...
Asura's Wrath on the other hand was highly enjoyable.

Can't wait until my motivation to play the PlayStation 3 more comes from my new television set as I will be setting out to do a rather long list of titles to purchase and play to catch up on a few missed years of everything that has been awesome including finally playing MGS4 for example.

N.B. SSX will be worth every single cent spent.
Ivalset
Eh, FFXIII-2 demo was fine for me. Definitely something I'll pick up eventually.
ampzz
At least FFX-2 was a completely different style which worked out completely fine and made it unique.

FFXII-2 feels like a copy paste with a few added bits which just screams that the content was originally planned for the original version but axed so they could quickly send the game out to make revenue.

The only thing I don't particularly mind is the random encounters of enemies without knowing who they will be in comparison to 13's styling.

Needless to say I will still probably (like 13)) play it and not finish it with it assisting in dust absorption.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Yeah, Asura's Wrath was pretty awesome. I think they were assholes about how they ended the Chapter 11 demo though. That game isn't even really a game though. It's like a movie where you occasionally press buttons, but it's awesome.

The FFXIII-2 demo was one of the few demos I've played where I couldn't even finish it because of how boring it was. And I've beaten that fucking hour-long Darksiders demo before. I got to the point in there where you have to choose to go for the boss or find some switch or some bullshit. I fucking hated the random encounters though. I really liked how it was in FFXIII. I could always see them and I could always ignore them if I wanted to. If they're going to force you into a random encounter, just fucking put me into the encounter instantly instead of wasting a few seconds trying to hit the stupid enemy. Although now that I know more about the monster thing, I do think it's pretty cool how each monster is a certain role (commando, ravager, etc).

Well, I played Bodycount. I had fun with that demo, but the game doesn't hold up as well. Really fucking short, too. 17 levels and I beat it in a day. The stupid Target enemies are bullshit, too. One of those guys can go completely invincible for way too long and you can't tell when they're not invincible anymore unless you shoot at them, which is dangerous since they have rocket launchers. Also, it's so hard to tell when you're almost gonna die in that game. Being slightly damaged looks just like being almost dead. Anyway, Red Faction: Armageddon's next.

Is anyone else looking at Kingdoms of Amalur? I tried that demo (which is super long, by the way) and that was really fun. It's basically like a single-player WoW with Fable combat. It's got a hybrid class system that's determined by how you allocate your skill points. It's got a nice amount of weapon types, sneak attacks/assassinations, a quick select that pauses the game for once, deteriorating equipment, Mass Effect dialogue wheel, and a way to mark inventory items as Junk. I just hope the main game doesn't have as much of a frame rate issue as the demo, but even if it does, the game looks fun enough for me to wanna ignore those problems, just like Fallout.

Also, The Darkness II demo was super fun. That was such a hoot. And there's co-op in that game, too. And no competitive. Double jackpot.
Ivalset
I will probably wait until Amalur gets cheap to buy it.

I enjoyed what I played but I wouldn't consider myself really invested into it.

I do like how feasible multi-classing is, though.

I'm on the last boss, I think. Or close around there where there's like a chain of battles. (I only tried it once)
It may have to do with my set up.

Serah: Lvl 68 Rav / 50 Com (246 Atk / 390 Mag)
Noel: Lvl 70 Com / 60 Rav / 50 Syn (382 Atk / 287 Mag)
Flanitor (Med): Lvl 12
Flanbanero (Rav): Lvl 28

I don't use Saboteur or Sentinel at all.
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
You don't use Saboteur? So you don't debuff strong enemies? Jeez. I was always using Saboteur in FFXIII. I think I used Com/Rav/Sab a lot. Sentinel's mostly just good for triple Sentinel, but man, that does work and is necessary for some attacks.
Ivalset
Saboteurs are kind of nerfed a bit, but still really nice if you do it right.

I would really advise having at least a double sentinel paradigm if you don't want to bring in a monster for triple sentinel. That way you can switch to it to mitigate the damage from serious attacks that might oneshot you otherwise.
Mafiamaster
Interesting. So I'm not underleveled or anything?
Topic Starter
Seibei4211
Wait, so they nerfed Synergists AND Saboteurs? What the hell, man? It's not like they were even overpowered to begin with. Hope and Fang were the only overpowered things in that game.
Ivalset
Yeah, none of the two main characters are exceptional synergists (no offensive buffs), and they're both missing some saboteur skills like curse, fog and pain. Saboteurs are still great to use and effective, you're just kind of forced to use monsters in those roles if you want to do it completely right. And since you can only have three monsters active at a time, and you probably want to use other roles etc...
DawnII
I haven't ever used a double SEN paradigm. Especially with some boss SEN monsters, you don't need more than one. I usually SEN when I need to switch to MED or SYN/SAB so I can keep the chain going.
Mafiamaster
Okay, I beat the game. Med/Med/Med helped a lot along with an OP Chichu.

Well here's a good one. I went to Gamestop just now to get Darkness II, Kingdoms of Amalur, and the guide for the latter since that's probably a huge game. I was looking around and I didn't see the guide for KoA, so I asked if they had it and he said they got an email saying it had been delayed. What the fuck? So the guide is coming out in two weeks instead. By then the internet will probably have whipped up some stuff and I won't want the guide. I don't think I've ever seen that happen before.
Ivalset
Mm, I don't think Kingdoms of Amalur is the kind of game I'd really want a guide for personally, though I'm not really one to buy guides in the first place. Seemed like a simple enough game with not much going on behind the scenes.

I like maps, and I wanna know about any time-sensitive sidequests with awesome rewards or something. I wanna know if there are any special super awesome weapons to get that I might miss out on normally. Like in FFXII, you'd be screwed if you didn't know how to get that Zodiac Spear from the beginning of the game. But if I play the game and it turns out to be pretty simple to follow, then I'll just use the money I would've used to buy the guide and put it towards Asura's Wrath.

Finally finished Katamari Forever, so I guess I should probably get around to finishing off Valkyria Chronicles and Nier too.

Downloaded a bunch of demos to the xbox since they don't count towards my internet quota.
Played Amalur and made a dark elf guy with a fabulous moustache and played with some rogue/fighter skills with bonuses to mana. It's fun, but it seems to really need a lock on button because I kept harpooning the wrong guys. Stopped playing a little while into the timed part of the demo because I was pretty much sold on buying the game already.
Asura's Wrath is hilarious and I might just buy it when it's a bit cheaper. I was really expecting some sort of God of War clone, but it's good that it's its own thing.
