its refreshing because its a concept that is extremely primitive. mapping to video / reference to source media is something i believe a mapper void of mapping concepts would execute. of course to make it playable requires mapping concepts but thats besides the point. i believe in the current state it is problematic because osu not only does not have the ability to force showing video but the website also has an option to download maps without video by default. combined with the possibility of people not reading the description (i did not initially so i struggled to understand what was going on), i believe it would simply be senseless to a non insignificant number of people. so its essentially a matter of whether you value the concept or the integrity of giving a solid experience to a clueless player more.
I don't understand how it's a problem if people don't play this with video it's not like the circles are invisible and you need the video to know the placement of the notes. The same could be said with every map that includes a video except with this one it just adds an extra layer of detail, the mapping being inspired by the video doesn't seem like a massive problem imo
the map is honestly just bad without the video. without the video, it plays simply as if the map excluded random parts of the song for no reason. akari's appearance in the video has ZERO correlation with rhythm, and therefore does not represent the song in any meaningful way without the video.
edit: not to mention the rest of the mapping visuals that only make sense when you play it with the video.
