Information: Scores/Beatmap Listing
---------------
My first beatmap, so please help me as I go along! :D

I-it's not like I made this because this is my boyfriend's favorite Touhou song or anything.

Change log:
05.09.10 - Normal Mode done, awaiting advice. Started Ezmodo (nooo it's not done, don't play it ;_;). Re-download required.
05.10.10 - Almost done with Ezmodo. Did I make it too hard? o.o
06.14.10 - iProcrastinate. But really, I'm done with both difficulties now!! Really!! I don't know if I will make a hard. I'm not pro enough to self-test something like that...
06.14.10 - Made johnsage92's advised changes
06.22.10 - Changed Easy to Normal and Normal to Hard. Respaced Hard mode. Re-download. I MIGHT do a 1-ish star easy if people suggest it..
06.24.10 - Made some minor changes overall & resnapped notes, like everyone has been telling me. XD
07.01.10 - Made some more minor/general changes & changed the background pic for Easy because I can't get 2 separate BGs to work for some reason.
08.04.10 - I'm slow. >_> But I'm done, just needs stars.

Just a few general tips before you map further.

I believe the BPM is exactly 160.00. The bpm analyzer (which is very helpful, you should download it) isn't always right, but when I changed the bpm on the last timing section to 160 and snapped notes to it, it seemed more in sync with the music. Just make sure the notes are still in the right place on the timeline after changing bpm.

Use the level 3 grid (available under view -> grid), it helps a lot with putting circles exactly where you want them.
You seem to have a lot of combos with mostly consistent spacing except for one or two notes each. I think this is a result of not using the distance snap. An example is at 00:44:951, the end of the 1 slider should be right next to the 2 slider given their rhythm.
Another example is at 00:59:670. When I put the distance snap spacing multiplier at 0.7x, the 1, 2, and 3 are fine, but the 4 is not (no other multiplier even comes close to fitting this combo). And again at 01:03:045, the 3 is out of place.
If you haven't read the FAQ's section about editing maps, it has a lot of good basic info.

Thank you for your input. :)

I've tried tweaking the BPM a bit (it's kind of weird, but I'll get it right eventually).
I also fixed the placement of some notes--thank you for pointing that out. o_O I didn't really pay much attention to that until you mentioned it. However, I'm not fond of distance snapping because it seems too limiting for me, so I'll try my best to place it intuitively..

Love the map! You've shown some great artistry in your slider design. These are all suggestions that I think will help the player (according to difficulty) and tidy up your map. If you want we can do a Mod4Mod and you can mod mine. If not I hope you can get this map ranked and wish you the best of luck ;)

Oh! and if this helped don't forget the kudssu! :D
*Starred*

SPOILER
[Easy]
00:34:406 - Move 5 grid lines right
01:03:093 - Move 5 grid lines down
01:05:343 - Flip Horizontally
01:23:979 - End Kiai Time (To do this go Timing Setup>Add>Use Current Time>OK(Don't click on Kiai Time again))

[Normal]
00:00:281, 00:00:656, 00:01:031, 00:01:406 - Move the end of these sliders so that they're under the 1st (1) just to make it look neater
00:14:718 - Make it a repeating slider like the others
00:34:593 - Just make it a circle
00:37:125 - Move 1 grid line down and 1 grid line right
00:46:593 - Move beside the (6) instead of on top to continue the pattern
01:00:468 - Move 1 grid line up
01:01:125 - Move forward 1/4 tick
01:21:083 - (1,2,3) Move down 1 grid line
01:24:083 - Move 2 grid lines right
01:24:458 - Move 1 grid line left
01:35:849 - End Kiai Time

I've also noticed that some of your notes aren't snapped to the timing grid. You may want to change that you may not since most of the notes were still on key (or barely noticeable)

I've made all the changes that you've suggested, thank you very much. They were very helpful, since I am still inexperienced with beat mapping. :) I'll keep the mod4mod in mind, though it looks like you're already pending (yay?!). I'll keep an eye out for your future maps. o_o

Oh right, for the timing grid, the notes are snapped to the 1/8 beats, which seemed to work out slightly better, but if they're still weird then, I'll see what I can do.

Timing: Offset is definitely not ZERO. Try offset 85 instead. I may warn you that im not an timing expert
Cut your mp3 file until around 01:38:099 ~

Easy:

Insert background?
And also take out kiai time

Normal:

In general, i could say that some parts the spacing is quite confusing, but meh, maybe its just me
And wth with your second red timing? Your notes arent even snapped to them, and i will also suggest you to take out the kiai time too

00:00:093 (1,1,1,1,1) - - This kind of intro looks more like an intro for a HARD difficulty, besides, i really dislike this circle placement 00:00:093 (1) , i was so not expecting that in a normal difficulty (meaning too hard)
00:43:875 (4,5,6) - This is not intuivie, please, move them away
01:25:218 (4) - I suggest to move this away too

Now that i have seen both difficulties, i will suggest these too:

Rename Easy -> Normal
Delete your current normal. and map a new Hard or Easy, or whatever you see fit
Also, try to map all your difficulties ending in around the same spot for all the difficulties, currently normal ends around 10 seconds laters.
wmfchris
Cut mp3 or map it fully?

[Normal]
I suggest you move adjust the offset so that note fits to the timeline.

0:13:593 (1,1,1,1) ...don't 1/8.
0:27:903 (9) new combo
0:40:593 (7) ...

Generally a good try but the spacing has to be improved otherwise it's still far from "rankable".

Wow for a beginner mapper you sure are creative (I'm working on my first map too- wish I could come up with patterns and designs like you..soo hard >_< )

General
Take touhou, and zun off from the tag since you already mentioned them in source and artist.
Delete the osb file.
Resnap all the notes.

I couldn't really find anything technically wrong with your maps, except I think you should map the rest of the song (come on its a short song, you can do it!).

nice song, nice maps, keep up the good work :)

Thank you! Several people have pointed out the note-snapping. Should I snap to 1/4 or 1/8? o_o I don't think I have any notes on the 1/8 timeline though, so 1/4?

I'm also having an issue with putting different backgrounds for each difficulty (will probably hunt for a solution later), even though I checked the "Diff. Specfic" box under the design tab... Er, I think that's what I'm supposed to check anyway. But every time I upload/update my beatmap, it says "image.jpg" or whichever is not used, do you want to remove? And I click no. But is one of the images not showing up? And why?

Hai~ Here's my mod~~

[Overall]
I highly suggest you map the whole MP3.
You should put in inherited timing sections to fix the volume of some things. Including those spinners. They need their volume lowered.
Delete the .osb file from your song folder and full submit.

[Normal]
Resnap this difficulty. Timing -> Resnap all notes.
00:07:585 (2) - New combo.

[Hard]
Resnap this difficulty too!
01:07:960 - You should map this break.
01:01:210 (4) - Sounds off. Move backwards on timeline 1/4 tick. Fix spacing afterwards.
01:15:835 - Odd place to start a Kiai time... I feel like this beatmap shouldn't have Kiai time. I don't say that often.
01:27:085 (1,2) - I'm not liking how you use three rebounds. Using two would make it play better.

This is great for your first beatmap. Unfortunately I don't star Works in Progress beatmaps. PM me when you have finished all your difficulties and have moved it to Pending. Then I'll come back and look at it, and then star it.
